Review: While initially under the assumption that their debut LP "would be stacked in the back of Used Kids Records in Columbus and they'd be putting them out in the dollar bins, every couple of months" according to vocalist Eric Davidson, while bassist Matt Reber once stated he "didn't think anyone would like" the album, it appears the members of New Bomb Turks were a little more than overzealous with their self-deprecation. Becaause Destroy Oh Boy! has grown to become a much adored classic in the punk scene since its initial 1993 release. Described by Spin critic Chuck Eddy as "the only band I can think of lately that even attempts to play [punk rock] as the rock'n'roll it was meant to be, and that counts for something", the endearing quality of the band's debut comes from their reluctance to lean into hardcore aggression; opting rather to channel the blues-laden garage rock of yesteryear, leading to a fuzzed out, sweaty, anthemic, jovial piece of quintessential garage punk that is now often considered as one of the vital blueprints of the subgenre in the decades since.
