Review: "Gran Hotel Buenos Aires" is the debut album from Argentinean Federico Aubele, discovered and produced by Thievery Corporation. Federico breathtakingly blends the flourishes of Latin music with the sonics, effects and basslines of dub reggae.

Review: DC chill dons Thievery Corporation first released this LP 18 years ago. And, like all classics, it still sounds as timeless and immersive as it did when it first hit our ears. From the swooning chords and easy-groove bedrock of "2001" to the heavy tabla-induced meditation of "Transcendance" via the ever-delicate breakbeat lullaby of "Incident At Gate 7", Sounds From The Thievery HiFi spawned the first generation of hippies the 21st century ever saw. This album is many things; a lesson in chill, a lesson in sample magic, a lesson in long and languishing grooves. If you haven't got this in your collection yet, you know what to do.

Back in 2017, Thievery Corporation's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton performed a now legendary concert in their home city of Washington D.C in which their band was backed by a fully-fledged orchestra. Three years on, they've decided to commit the orchestrated alterations to album. The results are largely superb, with the pair's slinky dub, lounge music and hip-hop influenced grooves and traditional guest vocals now coming accompanied by orchestral arrangements that veer from the subtle and sympathetic to the swooping, soaring and grandiose. Some of the versions of Thievery Corporation classics are particularly potent, with "Weapons Of Distraction" and "Lebanese Blonde" - one of their most celebrated early cuts - standing out.

Review: Treasures From The Temple was designed as a companion piece to Thievery Corporation's 2017 album The Temple of I & I, a set famously recorded at Geejam Studios in Port Antonio, Jamaica. It contains a mixture of previously unheard material originally slated for inclusion on its predecessor and all new remixes of album tracks. As you'd expect, the mood is dub-wise, soulful and humid throughout, with skanking dub cuts and soulful reggae jams nestling side by side with more up-tempo dancefloor workouts (see the dubby deep house beauty of "Guidance" and the breakbeat-driven bustle of "Music To Make You Stagger"). Most of the finest reworks come from TC, whose revisions mostly join the dots between digital dub and "Sleng Teng" style ragged riddims.
