Review: Bartellow is German producer Beni Brachtel, an artist that has been in involved with Lovefingers' ESP Institute for some time and as a member of label favourites Tambien, alongside Marvin Schuhmann & Valentino Betz of Public Possession. It's a pretty diverse affair on his debut Pankorama LP, starting off with the rather rather Pal Joey sounding "Sala Sensi" before he dives into some cosmo-balearic tinged ambient on the lovely "Clypp". Dusty swing-fuelled underground house is covered covered on the appropriately titled "Shufflington" or especially the stopmin' "Operator In Excelsis". "Notion" bridges the gap between label head Andrew Hogge's fascination with the exotic and analogue electronics wonderfully.

Review: Blase is the new collaborative project from Eddie Ruscha and Diego Herrera, whose respective work as Secret Circuit and Suzanne Kraft should be familiar to anyone with a firm grasp of more cosmically inclined music. Recent albums for Beats In Space and Emotional Response have brought the psychedelically charged Secret Circuit project to wider attention, with Ruscha a long term fixture in the Los Angeles music scene under a variety of names. Herrera is a much younger producer, and in addition to his solo work as Suzanne Kraft - which provided an excellent EP for Running Back in 2011 - he forms one third of new age house act Pharaohs. The stars of collaboration have now aligned, with Ruscha and Herrera teaming up as Blase for the Sunset Dawn album ESP Institute. Apparently adopting the name due to their shared "lackadaisical style and confident panache", the Blase project manifests with six tracks that feel perfectly at home on Andrew 'Lovefingers' Hogge's label.

Welcome Aunt Poly (7:03)
Review: Having delivered a couple of quietly impressive solo EPs for Keep It Zen and Saft, as well as a highlight of Disco Bloodbath's label as one half of Al Gobi, Ian Blevins pops up on Lovefingers' ESP Institute with a pair of tracks that the LA label claim will "boost your Serotonin levels". Certainly, A-side "Hannibal" is a definite mood enhancer, with bubbling, high-pitched electronic melodies and spacey chords riding a fizzing, Detroit-influenced analogue house groove. Flipside "Welcome Aunt Poly" is an altogether deeper and drowsier affair, with rich, stretched-out pads reclining over a shuffling, cowbell-laden rhythm. It feels like the sort of track that could induce a "moment" when heard at the right time, despite its' relatively simple - if not less delicious - construction.

Poor Old Head (5:55)
Review: Ian Blevins' first 12" for Lovefingers' ESP Institute label, released at the tail of 2015, was undoubtedly one of the most immediately striking missives from the US imprint in recent times. "Resume" is similarly ear-pleasing, with fluttering, near Balearic synthesizer flourishes, twinkling pianos and dreamy chords cuddling up to shuffling drum machine percussion and throbbing low-end. The producer goes deeper and denser on flipside cut "Poor Old Head", seemingly aiming to soundtrack the pain of a vicious hangover/comedown (delete as appropriate) via clicking rhythms, melancholic pads and the wooziest of melody lines. In some ways, it's rather weary, but also quietly beautiful.

Everything Is Nice (6:30)
Review: To date, long serving but low key Detroiter Sharif Laffrey has specialised in delivering epic cuts that prioritize hypnotic grooves, raw drums and subtle musical shifts. For his debut on Lovefingers' ESP Institute label he ratchets up the intensity by a few dozen notches, basing fearsome A-side "Tangier" around a druggy, full-throttle groove, wild and psychedelic acid lines, snaking Middle Eastern horn solos and the kind of rumbling bassline that will sound awesome blasting out of a meaty soundsystem. B-side "Everything Is Nice" is deeper and groovier in tone, with Laffrey wrapping bleeping melody lines and echoing vocal samples around a crunchy drum machine rhythm. It's very good, even if it does lack the restless energy of the exotic A-side.

Flares (Kuniyuki Takahashi remix) (10:46)

Bell Rock Outpost (Seahawks remix) (2:37)
Review: Four years after its original release, tracks from Land of Light's eponymous album get a new set of remixes. Fans of Lovefingers' ESP Institute label may recall the orginal remixes, released back in 2012, and this new set are just as essential. Kuniyuki Takahashi's take on the title track sets the tone, with sensuous ambient textures and gently warbling guitars creating an atmospheric mood. Tambien's version is just as esoteric, but slightly more understated, while Seahawks rounds off this latest remix package with his take on "Bell Rock Outpost". Juddery, slow-paced drums and warm, jazzy piano lines create another beautiful piece of music - tailor-made for those sunset moments.

Skylark (Tourist Kid remix) (4:38)
Review: Synth magician Lord of The Isles only deals in high quality sounds. They're always slow release, mindful cuts for dreamers and lovers of the deep and now he offers them up on the equally tasteful ESP Institute. 'Skylark' is rooted to a hunched kick but has expansive melodies way up in the skies above, and icy hi hat ticks keeping you locked in. 'OmniMulti' is more aural fireworks of the highest order, but paired to a deep, rubbery groove, and then Linkwood flips 'Skylark' into scuffed up and dreamy bit of late night bliss. Tourist Kid tackles the same tune and comes up with inventive, abstract ambient sounds with a new age edge.

Review: You wait ages for a Lord of the Isles album, and two come along at once! 'Night of the Endless Beyond', the Scottish producer's second full-length excursion for ESP Institute, follows hot on the heels of the inspired (if shorter) 'Subtle Thoughts' on Lapsus. While that was almost entirely made up of typically atmospheric ambient sketches, this epic goes further, complimenting his usual beat-free brilliance with forays into dubbed-out, deep space ambient techno ('Endless Beyond'), analogue-rich emotive techno (the star-fall brilliance of 'Strato'), ambient house ('Together' and the wonderfully trippy 'Quadralogue'), crackly IDM ('Truth') and picturesque, soft-focus dancefloor hypnotism ('Wonder').

The Heights (7:59)
Safe House (5:28)
Review: The latest offering from Andrew 'Lovefingers' Hogge's perennially on-point ESP Institute is a pair of epic, melodic and futurist house journeys from the mysterious Damien Lynch. "The Heights" sounds like a cross between Ame and Kassem Mosse with its soaring arpeggios and captivating synth tapestries reminiscent of either artist which isn't a bad thing at all! On the flip "Safe House" is the real winner on here, getting a bit darker with more killer arpeggios and rich synth programming assisted by sturdy rhythm programming. This is the ultimate journey track which will have massive crossover appeal given the taste for such aesthetics at the present time.

The Tourist (8:58)
Oye (8:26)
Review: According to Lovefingers' typically eccentric sales notes, these two tracks from Man Power (AKA similarly quirky producer Geoff Kirkwood) will "put a wrench in your holiday". Kirkwood has been globetrotting a lot lately, and both cuts here sound like they were inspired by visits to hot, steamy countries. He kicks things off with the subtle positivity of "The Tourist", where swirling chords and tumbling synthesizer melodies ride a busy, bouncy, and pleasingly off-kilter, tribal drum groove. While excellent, it lacks the surging positivity, glistening Balearic touches and wonky analogue bottom-end of flipside "Oye", which sounds like an Adriatic anthem in waiting.

Review: Earlier this year, Man Power briefly returned to his former home, Newcastle, to make some more music with his former Last Waltz colleagues. ESP Institute boss Lovefingers was impressed by the resultant tracks and here gives them a deserved release. A-side "Tistish" is a thrillingly wonky and intoxicating affair, with exotic synthesizer melodies, bustling Italo-disco style arpeggios and fuzzy, modular style electronics joining forces to create a mind-altering dancefloor mood (think Moscoman or Red Axes covering the original 1988 version of the KLF's "What Time Is Love" whilst high on acid). Arguably even better is sleazy flipside "Nee Shitteru", where ritualistic tribal drums and ragged analogue bass create a feverish and humid mood.

Review: In recent times, Mark E seems to have been returning to his disco and Balearic roots, albeit whilst retaining the stretched-out deep house vibe with which he's most famous for. It's little surprise, then, to see him blending the sun-ripened goodness of the Mediterranean with his usual attention to groove on this double A-side delight for Lovefingers' formidable ESP Institute imprint. "Laurentian Abyss" is particularly enchanting, with muted steel drums and a touch of accordion offering a focal point for a jaunty, Latin-influenced house groove and dreamy pads. "Emergency" continues the rush-inducing feel of the A, with chiming melodies and starburst chords riding a thickset, synthesizer-heavy deep house rhythm.

Review: Serial collaborator Mister Ho - co-founder of Klasse Recordings, fact fans - first joined forces with up-and-coming producer Heap earlier this year. Feeling Hopeful is the speedy follow-up to that record, and once again sees the duo in the loving arms of Lovefingers' ESP Institute label. The title track sets the tone, with duo layering twinkling organ motifs and undulating bass atop a chugging, mid-tempo house groove. As if to prove that they're capable of making more obviously cheery music, B-side "Gis Gis" is a spacey, analogue-rich affair, with a fizzing drum machine rhythm underpinning dreamy chords and vintage, late night melody lines.

Veils Of The Beloved (7:46)
Review: Lovefingers' penchant for including brief nuggets of information about his artists, and their tracks, on 12" labels is certainly useful for lazy record-buyers. Here, he offers up a first ESP Institute 12" from "ambassadors of the River Danube" Mister Ho and Heap, promising tracks that are neither, "too salty or too sweet". Opener "Collision Resistance" is a chugging, analogue-rich affair, with a simple, two-note bassline, arpeggio electronics and spooky textures driving the track forwards. "Veils of The Beloved" is altogether breezier and more melodious, and sees the duo make merry with dreamy pads, tuneful marimba motifs, and one hell of a loved-up breakdown.

Review: Following a couple of impressive outings on Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliche imprint, well-regarded Israeli producer Moscoman makes his ESP Institute debut. The Tel Aviv native is in fine form, too, delivering a pair of tracks that blend trippy, psychedelic electronics with clear cosmic disco and no wave influences. Opener "Akachi" is arguably the bigger of the two, with swirling effects, tribal chants and bongo-laden percussion peppering a long-slung disco-not-disco groove. "Nobody Else" has a more trippy and trancey feel, with looped, slowly building guitar and synthesizer parts - all drenched in special effects - rising above a hypnotic, drum machine-led groove.

Mexican Cola Bottle Baby (Peaking Lights remix - instrumental) (6:15)
Review: Ahead of the release of his much anticipated debut album on ESP Institute, Moscoman delivers a top-notch teaser of what we can expect. Perhaps riffing off the Edwin Birdsong track that Daft Punk famously sampled, "Mexican Cola Bottle Baby" is undeniably atmospheric, with starry, whistling synth lines tumbling down over a dense, African-influenced, live-sounding tribal drum groove. Arguably even better are the accompanying Peaking Lights remixes. While the hazy, tactile instrumental is quietly impressive, we're much preferring the original remix, where trippy female vocals combine impressively with acid-influenced bass, undulating electronics, dreamy melodies and copious amounts of dub delay.

Review: Given the hype surrounding his usually on-point releases, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Moscoman had been releasing music for longer than two years. It's not taken him long to get this debut album for ESP Institute together, and it's a pleasingly analogue-sounding affair. The eight eclectic tracks variously touch on sticky, tribal-influenced grooves ("Mexican Cola Bottle Baby", with its' wonderfully spacey melody lines), cold-wave ("Losing My Wedge"), tactile, nu-disco influenced tech-house ("Shot In The Light"), trippy electro ("Death At The Funeral"), and skewed house (the tumbling, ice cream van melodies and hypnotic drums of "Maltese Duck"). Throughout, the album remains stylish and quirkily atmospheric.

Review: Opal Sunn aka Alex Kassian and Hiroaki OBA are dreamers and fantasists that comes over in the inventive sounds they cook up on their first Ep for the ESP Institute label. The title track 'The Problem With George' kicks off and is a dense and prickly affair. Jittery synth lines and restless snares, dubs of deep space colour and droplets of melody all make for a nebulous cacophony that tugs and pull in different directions at once. 'The Mystery Of Mr Lee' is a little more settled with its silky space house grooves and meditative chords.

If It Ever Feels Right (9:11)
Review: The Lovefingers helmed ESP Institute had a frankly killer year in 2012, and if this opening salvo for 2013 is anything to go by we're in for many more treats from the label this year. Pharoahs have already graced 100% Silk with their brand of disco-inspired synth jams, but these three tracks are infinitely more accomplished. "Ahumbo" combines subtle Afrobeat influences with thick, lustrous bass and the kind of spacious guitar licks that would make Talking Heads jealous, while the dubby feel and atonal percussion of "Island Time" recall Ital's brilliant track "Queens". Finally, the "If It Ever Feels Right" goes in as hard as you could imagine an ESP release going, with thick analogue bass tumbling out of control at 132bpm driven relentlessly forward by a conga-led rhythm, which segues effortlessly into a blissful saxophone breakdown. Unsurprisingly, this is excellent stuff which comes highly recommended.

Review: Japanese newcomer Powder debuted in impressive fashion with the Spray 12" issued through Sling & Samo's Born Free label earlier this year consisting of diverse yet equally trippy dancefloor tools. We were not the only ones impressed, as Andrew Hogge has got his Lovefingers on some fresh Powder produce for the latest ESP Institute 12", the five track Highly. Again it's Powder's diversity and her knack for blending the functional with the trippy that really impresses here with opener "Lost Of Light" setting the tone. Glassy textures slip over the taut, minimal groove, with vocal effects drenched in all manner of delay - a most humid and intoxicating production. Tempos vary as the EP progresses, from the slow burning throb of "Manhole" to the cooing house delights of "Humid Wind", yet Powder's qualities remain undimmed throughout. The two briefer cuts that close out the record are quite delightful productions that seem perfectly tailored to opening and ending a mix.

Review: Lovefingers seems to be struggling a little with what to write on ESP Institute's distinct centre labels. For this Juan Ramos 12" - the producer's first for the New York based imprint - he's posed a question: "what colour Speedo should she wear this summer?" By the sounds of the fuzzy, broken beats, popping electronics, tribal percussion hits, drunken melodies and stretched out chords that mark out "Last Of The Natives", we'd suggest a rich shade of green. That said, if you also take the woozy, intense and cluttered - but nevertheless impressive - flipside "Enemy Of Enemy" is friend into consideration, dark brown might be a better option.

Are You In Touch (with Varan)
Review: Fresh from unleashing an album of the year contender in Young Marco's Biology, ESP Institute return to matters of the 12" platter and welcome Munich trio Tambien back into the fold for a superb second record. The Der Elf 12? is described by the label as "a beacon of hope in a dark warehouse" andwill be welcome news for anyone that indulged in Drogato, last year's ESP bow from Bartellow and Public Possession pair Marvin & Valentino. Both tracks here suggest Tambien's productions are growing in confidence and range with each release. The concoction of bouncing 909 rhythms, gently bent synths and heavily delayed vocals that make up the A-side title track could easily be mistaken for a production from Mark Seven's Parkway label, and is complemented nicely by the melodically-driven deepness of "Are You In Touch w/ Varan?"

Review: The development of Aussie Tornado Wallace from a promising deep house producer to a masterful maker of Balearic beats has been a joy to behold. Since first hooking up with Beats In Space and the similarly inclined ESP Institute last year, he's begun to develop a trademark sound that's warm, humid and musically rich. He's still capable of laying down chunky dancefloor rhythms, though, as the hypnotic new age house bumper "Soft Light" - the flipside of this second outing for Lovefingers' acclaimed imprint - so deftly proves. Really, though, it's when he gets more adventurous - such as on the wonderfully evocative Jonny Nash collaboration "Time of Nectar" and decidedly tropical lead cut "Circadia" - that he really comes into his own. Highly recommended.

Later Than U Think
Review: ** Repress from the ESP dons ** Being knee deep in the relentlessly productive operations at Rush Hour HQ is evidently having a positive creative effect on Marco Sterk, who continues to impress under his Young Marco alias. Video Days is the second EP Young Marco has delivered for Lovefingers' ever excellent ESP Institute this year and arrives soon after a wonderful remix of Michael Ozone. An esoteric and organic approach to the rhythmic elements of both the sublime title track and it's accompanying production "Later Than U Think" are apparently immediate, though it's Sterk's ear for knowing when to introduce new melodic and textural elements that really demonstrates what a talented producer he is turning into.

Review: Amsterdam-based graphic designer turned producer Young Marco has previously shown hints of greatness, most notably with a pair of superb 12" singles on ESP Institute that layered picturesque melodies atop huggable analogue grooves. Here, he delivers his debut album, Biology, and it's every bit as warm, imaginative and luscious as his previous work. Each of the album's seven tracks is something of a gem, from the crystalline, new age house of "Sea World" and Vangelis Katsoulis-inspired ambience of "Out of Wind", to the Italo-influenced dancefloor pulse of "Suzaku" and rush-inducing, synth-heavy brightness of "Can You Really Feel It". It's one of those albums that will brighten up even the dreariest of days, and those sets are arguably few and far between.
