Review: Attraktta is the new project of Brighton based Steve Hyland, who recorded under his birth name and Normal for Clone sub label Ai many years ago. Echo Principle is his second album that follows up last year's Massive Irretrievable Data Loss (on Touched - Music For Macmillan Cancer Support) where Hyland explores the outer limits of electro, IDM and techno across the album's half a dozen or so tracks. From the industrial edged offworld futurism of "Pulse Echo", the evocative "Distance In Ultrablue" that is reminiscent of early Autechre, through to bass driven futurist beats as heard on "McMurdo Sound" or the title track. All in all, Berlin's FILM imprint have offered up some timeless tracks by Hyland here.

Review: Before he'd even released any music, Brainwaltzera's tracks were being "liked" by Aphex Twin. It caused a bit of a furore - and subsequently the hype surrounding this admittedly superb debut album - but the patronage of Richard D James is in many ways fitting. You see, Poly Ana is full of the kind of hard-to-pigeonhole electronic fare that could have come from the legendary Cornish producer's studio. There are moments of fluid, ghostly ambience, alternately clattering and crackling IDM machine jams, mind-altering leftfield techno throb-jobs and fizzing, braindance-inspired workouts. Imaginative, emotive, off-kilter and left-of-centre, it's litte less than a triumphant first album.

Review: Denial of Service's new album comes after a series of impressive EPs such as 2015's Sensou and 2017's Contour & Shape. The expanded format allows for a more adventurous and expansive sound, however, so across 15 tracks we really hear the producer open up. It is still the machine driven electro-funk sound you would expect, but with a broader array of moods and grooves and influences from IDM, techno and even EBM. There are widescreen cuts that free your mind next to more intense and claustrophobic cuts. Either way, it's a real masterclass.

Review: Back in 2013, German duo Grandbrothers set tongues wagging with "Ezra Is Right", a debut track for one of Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Bubblers sets that packed intense beauty into a breezy blend of neo-classical composition and soft focus jazz piano. An EP of similarly yearning fare followed for Film last year, further enhancing their growing reputation. Here they set out their musical vision across an impeccable debut album, effortlessly joining the dots between piano jazz, lilting electronica, hip-hop influenced beatmaking and smoky trip-hop. By and large, the results are excellent, with highlights including the anthem-like build of "Artica", the sun-kissed loveliness of "5 Gegen I", and the slow-motion build of the brilliant "Start From Innocence".
