Kid Machine - "Space Renegade"
Kid Machine - "Space Renegade" (Flemming Dalum remix)
Casionova - "Space Commando"
Casionova - "Space Commando" (Flemming Dalum remix)
Review: For the 1986 BMX themed film RAD, Australian synth pop band Real Life soundtracked the most memorable scene, a BMX boogie at a school prom. If there was to be a 2013 remake, Kid Machine's "Space Renegade" would be a choice substitute for Real Life's "Send Me An Angel". Its arpeggios, monophonic keys and quick fire pitter patter beats are genuinely 1980s sounding, while its synths and pads harbour the same whimsical flair as the Real Life's '83 hit. Flemming Dalum however slows down his remix to what seems almost half the tempo of Kid Machine's original, a possible option for those slow motion replays of spinning handle bars and rotating spokes. Cyber Dance artist Casionova resurfaces too with "Space Commando" which pits high pitched and sustaining lead singing loudly against thrumming arpeggios and synths while Flemming Dalum brings in heavier beats, Justice like basslines and loud glockenspiels in his second remix.

The Long Dark Road
Untitled
Review: Here's something a little different from the always-impressive Cottam. Having dazzled with his murky but quietly uplifting deep house productions, he steps back in time to his early days as a producer of woozy, darkroom techno. According to Cottam's blurb, these two tracks were produced some years back and recently discovered in a dusty corner of his hard drive. "The Long Dark Journey" is particularly good, sounding like a paranoid take on the darker work of Sheffield duo Crooked Man. "Untitled" is slower but no less effective, coming on like a smacked-out trip into some dark, German basement.

Review: Iron Blu, UK producer and broadcaster on the mighty Intergalactic FM, has releases on Biotech, Rothmans, Plastic Fantastic, Out Of Bounds, Endless Illusion, Vivod and pending on new imprint LBL. His production career has spanned krautrock/cosmic, post-punk, electrofunk to what he does today. In past lives he has released on Blubber Lips, Some Bizzare, Hardware, Full Circle, HOS, Quad Communications, Coded, Global Underground and Morgan Khan's Streetsounds. Flight Recorder has been releasing a steady stream of 12" EPs and one CD album since Feb 2012 from Cottam, Kid Machine, Casionova to Antoni Maiovvi, Perseus Traxx, Alessandro Parisi and Emile Strunz amongst others.
Stepping aside from managing and A&R for Flight Recorder, Iron Blu releases his second offering for the label. "Science Probe Vessel" is 12 inches of jackbeat and Detroit techno. A1 is a dub-tinged organ driven 909 jack. A2 is a bass-heavy 909 jack cut through with glacial strings. B1 is heavy Detroit techno. B2 is a deep groovin' house workout fused with wobbly seesawing strings.

Alessandro Parisi & Adamennon - "Il Nulla Chiama A Se (Orior Omnia)"
Adamennon - "Il Rituale (Electi Initiationem)"
Alessandro Parisi & Adamennon - "Aperiens Ad Lunam (Baptismum Sanguis)"
Alessandro Parisi - "Caeli Rore (Purificatio)"
Review: Italy's electro don, Alessandro Parisi teams up with Adam Van Maledict aka Adamennon for an excursion into the sonic ether on the fledgling Flight Recorder imprint, home to one of our favourite bits from Perseus Traxx. This collaboration is significantly different from Parisi's usual work and it's definitely thanks to Maledict's devious ways that they've come up with something so varied. Pianos, horror movies and subtle electronics sum up these four tracks in a nutshell. Provocative and daring, sparse and clued-up. Any one of these cold slabs of aural delight could be used in a soundtrack for the more tenebrous spectrums of the film industry. Chilling.

Euterpe (The Muse Of Flutes & Lyrical Poetry)
Review: 18 months after Perseus Traxx brought Flight Recorder his first E.P, dedicated to four of the nine Muses of ancient Greece, the label now ushers in the second instalment dedicated to four more Muses, on Goddesses Of Inspiration II. The feel is the same as before with jagged cutting tones jammed live then edited down. Heavy synths and scattered drums perform an ode characterising the appropriate Muses, as tangled wires and a pair of hands wrench the overload of inspiration they give from basic machines. Once again Perseus' release on Flight Recorder is a unique set of acid-free sonic experiments, that sometimes feel as cold and edgy, as they do warm and carefree.

Deception
Deception (Kid Machine Revenge reprise)
Elan Vital
Elan Vital (Iron Blu Sleazy reprise)
Review: Emile Strunz had a breakthrough 2012 appearing on Porn Wax, World Unknown and the promising Rothmans label, but as anyone who keeps an eye on his Soundcloud account will attest this seems only the tip of a very prolific iceberg. A swift start to 2013 sees Strunz add the rising Flight Recorder label to his CV with the impressive North Sea Body Music EP. Beat down kicks and high tension synths manifest into a burrowing groove in "Deception", while the spacious Kid Machine Revenge reprise drops the BPM well below 100. "Elan Vital" is laced with a dark Belgian new beat motif and synthesised acidics, inviting Iron Blu to add boosted acid squelches, reverbs and delays to a track full of 70s Italian horror soundtrack sensibilities.

Merck 274350
Merck 274350 (Drvg Cvltvre remix)
One Step Closer To Heaven
Review: 'Merck 274350' With its propulsive mechanical basslines, industrial-strength percussion, and a Germanic vocodered mantra, this Teutonic Panzer Tank of a track takes absolutely no prisoners - an electronic matter of fact statement inspired by the passing of time, fate, circumstance, and synchronicity. Holland's misanthropic high priest of psychedelic, doomy, dark house & techno, Drvg Cvltvre, delivers a trippy interpretation, turning the track into a lysergic love letter to this iconic chemical catalyst, maintaining the dynamic bassline of the original but adding a nagging 303 line to deliver an explosive 3am dancefloor device.
One Step Closer to Heaven begins with a metronomic, rhythmic New Beat stomp and a nagging insidious synth refrain that recalls the more electronic side of New Order. Muscular synth riffs then drop in and out of the mix, taking the track into dark EBM territory and ramping up the pressure before the influences of Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone come to the fore, propelling the track into a rapture of hypnotic celestial electronic disco.
