Review: Given the quality of their output to date, its little surprise to find that Africaine 808's debut album, Basar, is rather special. Built around their now famous polyrhythmic, Afro and Latin-influenced drum machine programming, it begins with a touch of snaking jazz, and climaxes with a dense, uplifting Afro-gospel workout. In between, you'll find 21st century bruk, delicious downtempo torch songs, Juke-influenced Cajun blues, and hard-to-define - but thoroughly engaging - wig-outs. This limited edition vinyl version is also bundled with a bonus 10" containing remixes of the previously unheard "Tummy Tummy" by Highlife types Auntie Flo and Esa; the latter's cosmic, synth-heavy version, featuring a range of additional vocalists and musicians, is particularly potent.

Review: DJ Nomad and Dirk Leyers' Africaine 808 project has been responsible for some of the most inventive and enjoyable music of the last few years. It's little surprise, then, to find that the Berlin-based outfit's debut album, Basar, is rather special. Built around their now famous polyrhythmic, Afro and Latin influenced drum machine programming, it begins with a touch of snaking jazz, and climaxes with a dense, rising, uplifting Afro-gospel workout that should leave listeners thrilled and breathless. In between, you'll find 21st century broken beat, delicious downtempo torch songs about break-ups, Juke-influenced Cajun blies bangers, and hard-to-define - but thoroughly engaging - dancefloor wig-outs.

Review: Boom! The good ship Golf Channel returns with the first of two essential offerings and a label debut for the killer Africaine 808. The Berlin-based duo Dirk Leyers and Nomad comprise Africaine 808 and those with a regular vinyl habit will know them from last year's DJ Muscle series from WT Records. As their name suggests, the usage of the 808 is key to the Africaine 808 sound, and their output thus far can be comparable with the music of Comeme albeit with a focus on some of Leyer and Nomad's personal favourite African and island funk tracks. The pair debut on Golf Channel with a two-track 12? that features some excellent graf style sleeve art done by Nomad. DO NOT SLEEP

Revanche (5:46)
Review: Africaine 808's first EP for Phil South's Golf Channel label, the double A-side Lagos, New York/Zombie Jamboree, was arguably one of the releases of 2014 - a sublime 12" that joined the dots between Konk, early Latin house, techno and Afro-disco. Hopes are naturally high, then, for this follow-up. "Rhythm Is All You Can Dance" is not as instantly effective as either of those tracks, but it's still rather special - think darting, woozy synthesizers, spitting drum machines and dense African percussion. Jan Schulte provides the obligatory remix under his Wolf Muller alias, dropping a bouncier groove whilst emphasizing Africaine 808's woozy synthesizer lines. Bonus cut "Revanche" is rather special, too, and recaptures some of the celebratory feel of last year's terrific 12".

Everybody Wants To (4:38)
Everybody Wants To (12" disco dance mix) (6:58)
Review: Hot on the heels of the release of their brilliant debut album, Basar, Africaine 808 drop a fresh single. Intriguingly, "Everybody Wants To" is something of a departure from the polyrhythmic, global fusion style explored on Basar. Instead, it sees the Berlin-based duo explore the world of synthesizer-heavy space-funk. Of course, there's still plenty of Latin and African influences amongst the loose and organic percussion, but these seem to play second fiddle to the vocoder vocals, bustling bassline and intergalactic synthesizers that dominate. Of the two versions, it's the flipside 12" Disco Dance Mix that really hits the spot, with DJ Nomad and Dirk Leyers extending the groove and emphasizing the superb bassline for greater dancefloor enjoyment.

ESP (Lexx Escape From The Island remix)
Review: It's been some three years since Paul Byrne last donned his Apiento moniker for the brilliant "The Orange Place" on World Unknown. In that time, he's been busy building up his Test Pressing website, which has helped him make a whole load of impressive new connections. One-time Yello and The Shamen cohort Ian Tregoning lends a hand on "ESP", the lead cut on this first 12" for Golf Channel. The subsequent track is an uncomplicated joy - a woozy chunk of alien-sounding Balearica full of YMO synths and shuffling, picturesque rhythms. Lexx remixes, giving the duo's original a glistening analogue deep house feel. For the EP's other missive, Byrne joins forces with Sade's Andrew Hale - yes, really - for a hazy chunk of bleep-heavy Balearica with a slo-mo acid house twist. Excellent stuff, all told.

Review: Some of the best record labels out there act as a platform for hitherto unknown artists and music scenes to get wider exposure, and with this latest release Golf Channel certainly fall under that banner. Autarkic is a cold wave project from Tel Aviv musician Nadav Spiegel whose work is new to us at Juno HQ but most certainly a fine addition to the Golf Channel canon. The four-track Hello To Mrs Blank arrives with the assistance of fellow Tel Aviv outfit Red Axes, channelling both a sound and look that feels very much like a well-executed contemporary take on the cold wave and primitive electronics aesthetic.

Review: According to their Soundcloud page, the Balearic Gabba Sound System are "geezers with a common love for sonically weird, feel good, bona fide recordings with a twist..." and that's good enough for us! Marco Gallerani, Bjorn Torske and even Prins Thomas are rumoured to have been involved in the project. Following up some great releases and remixes on on Hell Yeah and Secret Life, they land on Phil South's stellar Golf Channel and get stuck in straight away on "Quando" a hazy, psychedelic and slow burning epic for the early evening punters or the early morning sunrise alike. "Adriatic Bolt" is a cute little pop-inflected 80's style number while "I Dont Care Who You Are" gets back to the chill-out room on this beatless cosmic affair, featuring some pretty impressive vocals. The bubblegum acid of "Quiet Force" closes out proceedings appropriately.

Review: 18 months on from the release of their fine - if largely overlooked - debut album under The Central Executives guise, Rogue Cat Studio dons Dean Meredith and Ben Shenton return with a new 12" for Golf Channel Recordings. Opener "Wazoo" is something of a smasher, combining the rolling heaviness of house, the percussion programming of 808 electro and the fizzing synthesizers of electrofunk with all manner of wonky touches. This off-kilter synth-funk feel is continued on the delightful title track, which sounds like Prince after a heavy night on Regret-amine. There's also a nice bonus in the shape of Leo Mas and Fabrice's remix of album track "Loveray '79", which turns the Latin-tinged disco original into a dense, Puerto Rican house delight.

Review: It's taken a while for The Central Executives' fine debut album to find its' way onto CD. It initially appeared on vinyl in early 2014, impressing critics and crate diggers alike with its' thrill-a-minute blend of classic New York influences (think post-punk disco, punk-funk, quirky house, Konk and Arthur Russell) and eccentric production from Rogue Cat bosses Dean Meredith and Ben Shenton. While there are some similarities to the duo's similarly eclectic and oddball Mind Fair project, A Walk In The Dark aims more obviously for the dancefloor. For the most part, it succeeds, from the sax-laden leftfield disco goodness of "Loveray 79" and throbbing, stylized odd-house of "Velvet", to the dubbed-out, synthesizer-heavy swing of "Shut Ya Face".

Review: Those cheeky scamps at Golf Channel come through with a surprise here with A Walk In The Dark, the debut album from a mysterious group of individuals known only as The Central Executives. Concerted internet searching as to the exact identity of The Central Executives has proved fruitless, as have attempts to coerce the label for information. However given how extensive Phil South's figurative rolodex is, not to mention the sheer breadth of talent that's appeared on Golf Channel over the years, we are willing to wager there is some high profile disco talent behind The Central Executives. Certainly A Walk In The Dark is filled with loose limbed punk funk and supple house that's quite aptly described by the label as "Sound Signature style machine jams, bare bones vocal led improvisations, discordant Arthur Russell moments & the distorted reflections of roots House that run to the very core of the big apple."

Review: The first release on Golf Channel's occasional ChannelXXX edit offshoot, Justin V's "I Want Your Love", was something of a runaway hit, becoming one of the most-played disco reworks of the past couple of years. This 12", boasting typically dub-heavy production from Rogue Cat chiefs Mind Fair, is an altogether different prospect. "Rio", for example, turns a jaunty chunk of post-punk pop - complete with bubbling horns and heavy Latin percussion - into a sludgy Balearic gem. As for flipside "Steel", it bobs and weaves at a slo-mo tempo, with the action revolving around a deep, rich bassline. Interestingly, the 12" also comes with a free CD, mixed by the Mind Fair boys.

Review: Given his track record and history, you'd expect this debut album from former Wild Bunch soundsystem member Milo Johnson to be pretty special. While it's far from perfect, it's certainly an excellent set. Musically, it blurs the boundaries between edits, original production and sample love, featuring tracks created using spoken word samples and snippets from some of his favourite obscure records. There are forays into shuffling, near soulful house (the two-part "Sexual Tension"), broken house ("Yearn"), disco-funk (the low-slung "With Your Body"), string-drenched, Ugly Edits-ish disco ("Return of the Savage") and smooth grooves ("Tacky Stuff"), all produced with his traditional dubwise finish. Recommended.

A unique synthesis of cosmic funk, psychedelic rock and deep dub, the entire album is every bit as immersive as you'd want it to be. From the trembling guitar plucks and frenzied momentum of "Monad" to the far-away cries and synth-slaying textures of "Slow House" via the planet-leaping drum energy and synth soars of "Samba Da Maconha", Gala Drop's distinctive delivery and creativity is showcased with accomplished skill. Review: It's been six years since the release of Portuguese combo Gala Drop's acclaimed, self-titled debut album. In that time, there have been line-up changes, subtle changes in style, and a surprise meeting with Detroit legend Jerry The Cat. The latter makes a big impression on II, their long-awaited sophomore set, contributing hazy vocals throughout. The real genius of II, though, lies in Gala Drop's new-found sound - a deliciously Balearic mix of heavy dub influences, loose Balearic rock, picturesque electronics, and a curious-but-brilliant fusion of cheap drum machines and dense live percussion. As a result, the album effortlessly swings between enveloping, sun-kissed wooziness (see "Slow House" and "All Things"), and psychedelic, Balearic dub-rock ("Let It Go"). Happily, the sun shines throughout.

Review: Phil South's Golf Channel has developed a fine relationship with Portuguese band Gala Drop over the years with the 2014 LP II the highlight of this union. Before the year is out, band and label reunite for Nova, a killer 12" which sees the band reworked by some of their talented compatriots. First up are Niagara, delivering their first ever remix after a year in which they've excelled on records for Principe, FTD, and their own Ascender label. In the trio's hands, "Nova" is granted the big band disco treatment, Lisbon-style, and it's nice to see how different their vibe is to the subsequent remix from Tiago. The Lux legend veers off into soulful broken beat house territory, channelling the vibes of old Bugz in the Attic and Kaidi Tatham material and we're loving it!

Here, they return to the same label with another quartet of hazy, Balearic-minded workouts. There's naturally much to admire, from the fuzzy guitars, grandiose dub effects and psychedelic throb of "Kill Your Speed", to the delightfully spaced-out swirl of superb closer "Mystic Mountain". While the more dub disco influenced thump of opener "I Am The Circle" takes care of dancefloor business, it's the humid dub rhythms and tropical textures of "Alma De Fago" that arguably stands out.

Review: Did Golf Channel boss it last year? Of course they did! How they gonna follow up in 2015 then? Keep on keeping on pal. Phil South's superb label prove they are not averse to the odd pun based contributor here with a debut for Cherry Garcia whose three track Vine Of Souls EP is perfect fodder to ease those out there still suffering from a New Year hangover. Sporting some artwork that looks like a discarded story board idea from The Mighty Boosh, the mysterious Cherry is evidently a talented soul on the basis of the sheer musicianship on display here. Golf Channel describe the title cut as "shapeshifting Brazilian dancehall-psych" and it sits well, bursting with a wonderful energy that will cause many to dance. Fans of Finis Africae are recommended to spend some time with the sumptuous closer "Sol Floresta".

With the assistance of unofficial promoter/musical programmer Jason Kincade, Golf Channel has put together this celebratory collection, featuring tracks from regular visitors to the unlikely party space. Review: Surfacing earlier this year on those all too limited Golf Channel promos, the full version of Juju & Jordash's Jewsex 12" arrives replete with some amusing artwork and the even more amusing tagline "Conceived by Juju & Jordash on a balmy night 9 months." Such is the production versatility of Gal and Jordan you never quite know what to expect from the Amsterdam based duo, and this long awaited return to Golf Channel finds them channelling the spirit of countless deliciously filthy italo denizens of days gone by. It's hard not to get swept up in the relentless waves of raw and libidinous sounds that pummel through the speaker cones on the original "Jewsex." Flip over and switch down to 33rpm and the "Clubsex" version goes tougher, harder, and stronger as the rippling arpeggio bassline gets lost amidst the steamy jacking drums - maybe this is bath house music? The duo's penchant for horizon widening dub expanses finally makes an appearance on the appropriately titled "Dubsex."

Unleash The Golem: Coffin Train sees Jordan Czamanski and Gal Aner return to their conceptual Golem series for Golf Channel with the A Side challenging the aforementioned Techno Primitivism in the experimental stakes. Seventeen minutes long, "Coffin Train" sees the Amsterdam pair conjure up their most claustrophobia inducing production thus far, marrying the freeform electronics of their Magic Mountain High material with vast, droning passages and corrugated acid tainted bass lines. The accompanying "Coffin Train Getaway" is much more rhythmically focused, paring back the textural experiments in favour of plundering through a broken techno rhythm that's got Clapton squat party written all over it.

These two house gems are unquestionably killer thanks to their tough but intricate sound design, both cuts are masterfully filtered and washed-out. By and large, this first 12" under the collective Loose Control Band moniker is, with the deep ambient dub-meets-808 electro of "It's (NOT) Just An 808" sounding like one of Sharp's own productions from the late '90s. There's a similarly intergalactic feel to the tougher, chunkier "Warehouse Mix" of the same track, while "Bent" is a prime chunk of muddy, early Dubtribe San Francisco deep house crossed with Spun's usual dub disco grooves. This eponymous debut full-length is similarly schizophrenic in the most glorious of ways. One minute they're dropping the mid-tempo dub disco-meets-new wave chug of "Neon Carnival", the next they're experimenting with acoustic Balearic jazz-funk ("Find Me At The Fair"). Delve deeper, and you'll find tributes to krautrock ("Deutsche Bag") and Liquid Liquid ("Voodoo Train"). Having already delivered a constant stream of Rhythm Odyssey & Dr Dunks 12" singles (alongside pal Eric Duncan), Meredith now brings his Mind Fair project (a collaboration with studio partner Ben Shenton) back to the label. "Take Me To The Bridge" is typical of the duo's output, offering a loose, hazy, Balearic-influenced take on disco with distinct pop overtones and bags of live instrumentation. There's a more distinct dubbed-out feel about the huggable Balearica of "Let The Music Take Your Mind", while the Velvet Season & The Hearts of Gold remix of "Ceremony" is icy and out-there, doffing a cap to coldwave and sparse, melancholic deep house.

Review: As with most, if not all Golf Channel releases, the dedication to presentation on finished copies means you can't ever feel too bad about missing out on the clutch of white labels the New York labels sends out in advance of release. That's certainly the case with the Downtown Nubian EP from Mind Fair, with some wonderfully psychedelic music to match the abstract art. Mind Fair is of course the collaboration between MEB's Ben Shenton and sometime Chicken Lipper Dean Meredith - we need an excel formula made to keep up with the latter's various projects - and after numerous 12"s on Rogue Cat and International Feel, the Downtown Nubian EP represents their finest work together to date. The wonderful "So Strong" is perhaps one of the finest contemporary disco cuts in recent memory thanks to the usage of vintage synths, live instrumentation and the sort of dynamic arrangements that few newcomers have a grasp of. That vocal sample is amazing too. A smorgasbord of sounds follow with the avant-garde primitive electronics of "Bloody Mary" acting as a weirded out interlude before the sumptuous jazz funk of the title track and the proto electronics of "Wrong Wire".

Review: Having impressed with a variety of weird and wonderful singles on International Feel, Golf Channel and their own Rogue Cat Sounds imprint over the last three years, it's probably about time Ben Shenton and Dean Meredith dropped their debut album under the Mind Fair alias. Predictably, it's an impressively wonky, off-kilter and dubbed-out affair, effortlessly joining the dots between dub disco, hazy punk-funk, heavy African rhythms (see stand-out "Voodoo Train"), slo-mo chuggers ("Neon Carnival") and bluesy Balearica ("Sunny Carter"). Blessed with plenty of live drums, guitars and bass, as well as vintage synthesizers, it's an attractively loose affair, with great ideas and beautiful mood pieces complimenting the low-slung, out-there experiments.

Review: In typical Golf Channel fashion, this collaborative 12" from Detroit native Todd Modes and Heroes of The Galleon Trade guitarist Mike Severson offers the perfect balance between left-of-centre experimentation, and disco-influenced dancefloor grooves. This is first evident on the baggy, slightly psychedelic stoner disco throb of "Midnight Exotics", where Severson's hazy guitar passages and beat boxing style vocal samples ride a trippy, disco-rock groove. Flipside "Disco Desire" pushes the intensity level up several notches. This time, Severson offers up wild, heavy metal-inspired guitar solos, which build in intensity over Modes' pulsating, italo-influenced backing track. Headbanger disco anyone?

Review: As the back cover makes clear, Negative Hallucination is a collaboration between Pittsburgh Track Authority member Thomas Cox, and Africans With Mainframes member Noleian Reusse. Given their respective recording histories, you'd perhaps expect this debut EP to be full of bumpin', acid-flecked house. In fact, it's an altogether looser and more melodious affair, with opener "Solitarity" [sic] expertly combining elements from krautrock, analogue house, and cheery Balearic disco. The freaky, alien attack that is off-kilter jacker "Police State" is perhaps more in-keeping with their analogue house histories, while "Surveillance" expertly joins the dots between dub techno, lo-fi house, and intergalactic electronica.

Review: New York Endless is the latest pseudonym of DJ/producer Dan Selzer, who counts members of the Rapture and Italians Do It Better boss Mike Simonetti amongst his former collaborators. This debut EP for Phil South's impeccable Golf Channel imprint does a good job in showcasing his range of influences. "Consultant's Agreement" peppers a loose analogue house groove with Plone and Boards of Canada style lo-fi melodies, while "Scale These Heights" sounds like Kraftwerk's "Europe Endless" after a night out in Brooklyn. The EP's cheeriest moment is closer "Benefits Arrive, Life Goes On", which comes on like an unlikely collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and Young Marco. Impressive stuff, all told.

Review: Payfone are Balearic pushers Phil Passera & Chieka Ononye from London who return with a second release on Phil South's esteemed NYC imprint Golf Channel. On the A side we've got the low-slung nu disco of "Catholic Central" which is immersed in just the right amount of marijuana haze on this deep and sultry summertime groove for endless summer nights in NYC loft parties and London basement shindigs alike. On the flip is an absolutely epic remix by Ann Arbor hero of the underground D'Marc Cantu who gives the track a deep, dark and tunnelling makeover, clearing the smoke away and instead covering the track in a nice sheen of dust and rust, finding the soul in the machines like he always does!

Review: London duo Payfone return to Golf Channel with two more stately ageless gems. "Justified" takes a similar tone to their previous floor-burner "Quarantine", all star-lit and subtly cosmic, but with added soul snippets and textures wrapping around the groove like tailored faux fur. "We Are Chains" builds even more fervour with serious spiritual muscle as a Romanthony-level vocal preaches gutsily over another brilliantly slow, steady and broadsword dub disco groove. Definitely something to phone home about.

Review: Golf Channel continue their end of year onslaught with a label debut from emergent London disco dude Payfone, aka Phil Passera, which is filled with misty-eyed and nostalgic dancefloor moves. A softly strutting gossamer groove with twinkling arpeggios and instantly infectious vocal elements, "Paradise" is reminiscent of 2020 Vision at their deepest. "Mice Life", meanwhile, is a more stripped back reflective affair. All swooning synth tones and minor chords, emotion is coded into every minutiae; it sets the perfect scene for "Subcoinscient Lamentation," a super slow, slinky and introspective number with some sultry French vocals that hit you hard. Review: Since donning the Payfone guise, former Kitty Bronx and Leon Lace man Phil Passera has yet to put a foot wrong. Both 2013 debut "International Smark" and last year's "Paradise" - the latter for Phil South's Golf Channel imprint - were both superb exercises in re-imagining New York boogie for the house generation. He's at it again here, with "Quarantine" offering the perfect blend of jaunty electrofunk synths, early New York garage dubbiness, effortlessly soulful vocals, rubbery disco bass and a dash of Giorgio Moroder. Flipside "Padre Pray For Us" is an altogether deeper, woozier proposition, with blazed drums, hazy Rhodes keys and fluid synths being joined by a killer trumpet solo - the kind that makes you want to close your eyes and just drift away.

Review: There's something rather special about this surprise return to Golf Channel from Mark E, this time under the Project E alias with occasional production partner Nate Woodcock. Inspired by a famous Ibizan beach and holiday resort, "Denbossa" is a surging, rush-inducing slice of loopy, hypnotic, melody-rich brilliance; like "Seuno Latino" re-made by Steve Reich and Aquarian Foundation, with T-Coy on mix duties, it seemingly floats between the speakers on a cloud of warm, humid air. Flipside "Miramola" - a kind of new beat-goes-Balearic excursion with looped Latin keys and a typically blissful vibe - is almost as good. Both tracks are pretty darn special, though; expect to hear them a lot this summer.

Review: Given that his discography stretches back to 1996, it would be fair to describe L.H.A.S man and sometime Felix Dickinson collaborator Jaime Read as a "veteran". While his releases are relatively infrequent, he remains capable of producing magical music, as this first release for Golf Channel Recordings deftly proves. Warm, humid and blissfully laidback, it effortlessly blends vintage deep house, Balearica and downtempo disco influences on a quartet of yearning tracks. Highlights are plentiful, from the buzzing analogue bass, tactile pianos and stoned chords of closer "A Night In Shirley", to the Melodica-laden jazz-funk-goes-deep house shuffle of "Kaanile". Best of all, though, is opener "Is It Real What You Feel", an impeccably loved-up slow jam featuring distant vocals smothered in snuggly electric pianos.

Review: Former Chicken Lips man Dean Meredith seems to have found a soul mate in grumpy New York DJ/producer Eric Duncan; this is the duo's fifth collaborative 12" for Golf Channel in the last two years. "Broken Drums" picks up where previous installments left off, delivering an attractive, unfussy blend of proto-house influenced drum machine rhythms, looped chords and vintage synthesizer melodies. As is customary with their 12" singles, flipside "Super Chips" drops the tempo, offering up a faintly foreboding leftfield nu-disco jam blessed with trippy synths and vintage sounds. The "Super Chips 808" version strips the track back to its hissing, woozy rhythm, delivering a no-nonsense, freestyle-influenced take for late night floors.

Review: Dean Meredith and Eric Duncan's production partnership under the name The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr Dunks has proved consistently fruitful since the transatlantic pair were first brought together by Endless Flight back in 2012. Big Fish is their seventh 12" together and their sixth in total for Phil South's Golf Channel label and sees the pair sharing space with some high profile remixers. The original version of "Big Fish" is a booming disco cut dominated by a rather flirtatious clavinet lead and a deep, deep bassline. Sandwiched either side are remixes from Detroit's Marcellus Pittman and the (not so) mystery Golf Channel act Central Executives; the former turns in a trademark deep house refix rife with musicality and skipping drums whilst the latter turn in a killer stripped back revision. Bless you Golf Channel.

Review: Given the production reputations of Eric Duncan and Dean Meredith across the myriad of solo and collaborative projects they've been involved in over the years, the prospect of some joint releases on Phil South's Golf Channel label is one to savour! Some months after the trickling of white label promos, the first of two Dr Dunks and The Rhythm Odyssey 12"s arrives in glorious finished sleeves and the four tracks Instrumental Fantasy are equal to expectations. Meredith's much documented mastery of analogues really comes to the fore on the title track in the shape of a bonkers bassline that leads you on a merry dance all over the place. A shorter 303 laden and heavily jacking revision follows in the shape of "Acid Fantasy" though it's the opening gambit on the B Side that really caught our ear. "La Chiave" is an immense slab of psychedelically infused industrial disco with all manner of tripped out, echo laden FX occurring in the depths of the channels - we could totally see Ron Hardy's eyes lighting up with joy at this gem were he still alive and well today.

Review: Golf Channel engages in London Bus tactics once more with no less than two killer plates from Dr Dunks and The Rhythm Odyssey arriving this week. Whilst the accompanying Instrumental Fantasy 12" is on a bonkers Chi town jack and industrial disco tip, this Circles 12" finds our transatlantic pairing in a more horizontal midtempo mood. Each of the four tracks are ostensibly stylistic variations on a musical theme, with the title track a wondrously hypnotic delight described all too accurately by Golf Channel as a long lost remake of "E2-E4". Stripping away the drums, the Long Drive Home take on "Circles" tugs at your emotions even more, while on the flip "Glow" takes the same musical ingredients but channels them through early 80s disco dub with equally worthy results.

As The Rhythm Odyssey and Dr Dunks, the pair have already served up two plates of incendiary discotheque burners for Golf Channel and this two track Fox 12" is every bit as good. The A Side 'Version' of "Fox" plummets down the disco rabbit hole with dubby abandon, acting as a precursor to the technicolour delights of the original on the flip, which is blessed with a rawness akin to early Chicago house.

Night Addict
Review: Golf Channel's All Star trans-Atlantic duo Dr Dunks and The Rhythm Odyssey cross swords for a fourth time on the heavyweight (and long overdue) Saffron. The collaborative project between Chicken Lipper Dean Meredith and Rub N Tugger Eric Duncan was founded with a view to concocting the very finest analogue assembled proto House and modern disco and it's worked a treat thus far. The approach continues in ripping fashion on "Saffron" which regular attendees of the more considered international discotheques will no doubt recognise thanks to the upfront promos delivered to a select few selectors earlier this year - never have a piano motif and bullying drums sounded so effective! "Night Addict" meanwhile, demonstrates Dr Dunks and The Rhythm Odyssey are equally capable of operating at a slightly slower tempo, splaying heavily delayed and dismembered vocals over an angry little arpeggiated bassline - one for the 4am crowds!

Review: Recent New York transplant Mans Swanberg is clearly a man that enjoys an alias; best known for his Italo tinged edits on the Rollerboys label under the name Bogdan Irkuk and Bulgari, the selector adopts a new guise on this superb debut for Phil South's Golf Channel label. Waldemar Schwartz may well be a new name, but many of the elements that made Swanberg's work as Bulgari so memorable are very much in evidence on Taza De Oro. Chief among them is Swanberg's mastery of the live bass line which really transcends both the title track and B Side "Krav Maga Girls" towards disco heaven. After a fallow period of the last few months (An excellent LP from The Central Executives aside) Golf Channel seem to be gearing up for a ton of great releases, and this one from Waldemar Schwartz is a fine entree.

New Germany (DJ Nature remix)
Review: Golf Channel come correct with the second in a series of 12" re-issues of material from Dutch musician Spike Wotters, who released four LPs of privately pressed material in the early 80s. Much like the first Spike 12" on the label sat at the odder end of the music scale, "New Germany " is best described as lo-fi, hazed out synth wave, and the subsequent track "Apollo 4" is no less weird, taking on a lolloping heavily phased stoner funk rock vibe. Golf Channel tasks label mainstay DJ Nature with remixing the title track, and the New York resident turns in a brilliantly cascading revision that retains certain filmic aspects of the original whilst implementing tautly wound percussion and a turned inside out punk funk riff that makes for the best sort of mutant house there is. Word on the street is further Spike 12" reissues and remixes from Justin Vandervolgen, Gala Drop and Black Discos Abel Nagengast are on the horizon ahead of a compilation!

All involved treat the mysterious Dutchman's lo-fi, blue-eyed soul originals with due reverence, while managing to stamp their mark on proceedings. Highlights come thick and fast, from the metallic dub stylings of Juju & Jordash's version of "Baby Love", and the gentle Balearic bliss of Mark E's interpretation of "Goodnight", to the rush-inducing stomp of Sexican's tops-off version of "Sometimes". Best of all, though, is Mind Fair's epic take on "Fooling Around", which gets re-imagined as a trumpet-laden, Latin dub disco epic.

The headline attraction of this teaser 12" is Justin Vandervolgen's brilliant, club-friendly tweak of Chris "Sexican" Munoz's remix of "Sometimes", which layers Wolters' impassioned vocal over a thumping, house-tinged dub-disco groove. The rest of the EP contains more obscure, rarely heard Wolters material from the archives, including the evocative, out-there bliss of "Seebelebbad", and the tactile, late night, cosmic soul of "You Can Do It". Review: The much delayed and even more awaited Spike retrospective from Golf Channel is finally here! For the uninitiated, Spike Wolters was responsible for a series of self released albums in the early 80s recorded using all manner of primitive drum machines, synths and guitars which resulted in some of the most diverse FX laden, ahead of it's time music. Mentioned in hushed tones by feverish record traders for years to come, Spike's work was first introduced to the wider world by Golf Channel in 2011, with the New York label issuing Magic Table, a 12" featuring some of the Dutchman's compositions backed with remixes from Thomas 'Welcome Stranger' Bullock. Fast forward several years and the label has finally issued Orange Cloud Nine, a sixteen track retrospective which draws from the four albums Wolters recorded in the 1980s. Like most Golf Channel output, it's a must not least for the in-depth sleeve notes from Test Pressing's Japan-based DJ and record collector Rob Harris and the the visually striking artwork by Perks & Mini's co-founder Misha Hollenbach.
