Review: European reggae artist Alborosie is a Greensleeves regular who is best known for his Soul Pirate album. For this new long player recorded and mixed in Kingston, he heads back to the grass roots of dub. These are loud, proud cuts to be turned up on a meaty sound system. The drums form rock solid foundations, then natty keys, wah-wah guitar effects and spaceship hi hats that drift off into the sky all add the vital details. It's classic stoner material for a lazy afternoon smoke and as well as the cuts that work the desk, there are also more organic cuts like 'Trench Town Dub.'

Review: Sicilian-born, Jamaica-raised reggae artist Alborosie presents a brand new EP charting an LP-length set of dub variations, 'Embryonic'. Coming to legendary reggae outfit Greensleeves, who've been operating since 1975, it's an impressively oozy dub album, staying true to the title and evoking the sound of what a reggae tune might be like as it develops in the womb. Campbell provides the vocal work, which is aloof and detached on "respect", with dreamy trumpets somewhere off in the distance as the rhythm section rolls on with real warmth. Trinity's production is fully on point throughout. The flip is more direct, with heavier beats and more reverb underlining the crisp Al Campbell, and it also features an exclusive dub mix of the same tune that is scorching hot and carries serious weight.

It has now been reissued with an all new colour printed sleeve and was the album that sent Clint Eastwood & General Saint to the next level. All ten of these tunes are surefire reggae big hitters with Inity Rockers providing the rhythms and featuring a young Courtney Pine. The album reached mainstream success and led to a special John Peel Session as well as TV appearances. Subjects range from the lust for women to political musings on the nuclear crises of the times.

Review: Keith Hudson's Nuh Skin Up is the dub companion to his 1979 vocal album, From One Extreme to Another, and is often talked about in hugely hushed tones. It is well removed from what you might expect of a record record in Jamaican during that time and two lead cuts for it are presented here. Swampy, earthy dub is the order of the day on "Nuh-uh Skin Up" with wiry synths extended off into space. It's futuristic still today, and the flip is an even slower, more spaced out dub with tape hiss, distant pad and gently riffs all taking you to another head space entirely.

Review: Blowing With The Wind is the second August Pablo album to get the reissue treatment this month following on from 1986's Rising Sun. This one came in 1990 when the legendary dubber had fully updated his original sound with more modern aesthetics and digital techniques. It picked up rave reviews and proved to be one of the artists' most successful records since the seventies. It is defined by a mix of nyahbinghi drumming and hardcore steppers that was fully embraced by the sound system culture of the tie and took Pablo to new heights in the Far East, culminating with a tour of Japan.
