Review: It's no surprise that Hardworksoftdrink hail from the same town as the infamous Robert Johnson club. Unbeknownst to the more commercial end of the club spectrum, Offenbach is a centre for German underground music and has been so for the last thirty years. Frankfurt might get all the praise, but its this town on the outskirts of the financial capital that's grown the scene year on year. The small independent label are carving their name into the region's history, thanks to a close-knit group of producers, and this latest EP from Cedric Dekowski and Felix Reifenberg is a perfect example of the sort of freeform hedonism that has been at the core of the hub. Through glitchy, wayward beat constructions all filtered through a distinctive house edge, this duo are very much doing their own thing; no fillers and absolutely no gimmicks from start to finish. A class act.

Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Cedric Dekowski - "Mr Ephone"
  2. Cedric Dekowski, Felix Reifenberg & Muanda - "Jawis"
  3. Cedric Dekowski, Felix Reifenberg & Thilo Dietrich - "007"
Review: Hailing from the Offenbach / Frankfurt area, the Hard Work Soft Drink crew deliver their second vinyl offering to the world, displaying their knack for spooked out minimal business that presents a united front to the world. Cedric Dekowski kicks proceedings off with the intricate and driving surrealism of "Mr Ephone". He's joined by Felix Reifenberg and Muanda for the skippier and strung out "Jawis", while "007" swaps Muanda for Thilo Dietrich and locks into a more pronounced electro gig that burrows comfortably into the relentlessly eerie atmosphere.

Cat: HWSD 003. Rel: 01 May 14
Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Baldwin
  2. Jamie Jones (with Cedric Dekowski)
  3. Tiltis (with Muanda)
  4. Naturon (with Felix Reifenberg)
Review: Comprised of an interconnected circle of producers, the Hardworksoftdrink stable is already carving out an identity based around sleek and playful minimal house with an irreverent attitude woven into the presentation. Thilo Dietrich is at the controls for the third release, although other regulars on the label are present to help lay down some wafer thin grooves. "Baldwin" burrows into a cyclical, icy sound space primed for unease, and "Jamie Jones" likewise keeps things haunting and dubby, shaped out by chilling pads. "Tiltis" packs a meatier bottom end and a more pronounced groove, while "Naturon" slides off into a lighter construction with a broken beat sensibility, warm chords and some leftfield textures.

1995 (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: HWSD 011. Rel: 18 Oct 18
Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Bibo (7:50)
  2. Party House (6:07)
  3. Smell Flahsback (7:17)
Review: Roman Flugel seems to have been in a nostalgic mood of late. He recently released a superb retrospective of his early '90s Acid Jesus work alongside Alter Ego partner Jorn Elling Wuttke and now offers up an EP of previously unreleased solo productions from 1995. All three cuts are enthralling and on-point, making us wonder why they were never put out at the time. Many DJs will naturally be drawn towards A-side "Bibo", a warm, bass-heavy and fluid club roller that sits somewhere between early UK bleep techno, US deep house and the sci-fi inspired techno of Detroit. Elsewhere, "Partyhouse" wraps deep, Motor City-influenced electronic motifs around snappy, Chicago-style drums and a bustling bassline, while closer "Smell Flashback" is a jaunty trip into melodious techno-funk territory with added jammed-out organ sounds.

Chup EP (12")
Cat: HWSD 001. Rel: 19 Apr 13
Deep House
  1. Muanda, Cedric Dekowski & Felix Reifenberg - "Dilderano"
  2. Muanda - "Brown Paper Bags"
  3. Muanda & Thilo Dietrich - "John Delan"
Review: The Chup EP joins the dots between tech house, dub techno and Berghain associated sounds. The squelchy pops and comical sound effects that identify a lot of Masomenos' music can be heard on "Dilderano", which wades a little deeper into the techier end of house music. The EP also sees newcomer Muanda team up with Cedric Dekowski & Felix Reifenberg, who have so far only released the one EP on 87 Records. Sharing the A-side is Muanda's first production "Brown Paper Bags" and it's an atmospheric one, which pitches delaying dub stabs against a constant groove, spearheaded by a percussive thwack that sounds like it was made hitting a hollow PVC pipe. On the B-side, Thilo Dietrich collaborates with Muanda to make "John Delan", a murky and dubbed out piece of watery minimal techno.

Monte Scherbelino (12" with individually decorated label (we cannot guarantee which one you will receive))
Cat: HWSD 009. Rel: 16 Jan 17
  1. Stoffi (7:09)
  2. Opfermann (4:39)
  3. Ossi (7:29)
  4. Osbourne (5:29)
Review: Our first encounter with Oskar Offermann's music was via his excellent material for Japan's Mule Musiq, a cornerstone of the deep house sound, and what has now become a true staple of our dance diet. However, the dude has put out a whole load of excellent material through his own White imprint, a heft succession of releases which have earned him the deserved attention of many a DJ. This week, though, he's jumped ship and landed on Offenbach's Hardworksoftdrink label, a label hailing from the same town as the legendary Robert Johnson club. In fact, this EP is sublimely diverse in every respect, meandering between subtle swings of electro, and other, dreamier shades of house. If that wasn't enough, it's also all recorded with a blissfully pleasant analogue touch. Wunderbar.

Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Broskiloop (7:11)
  2. Kamelion (8:01)
  3. Kanion (6:05)
Review: Frankfurt up and comer Felix Reifenberg is well known by now to be affiliated with the local hardworksoftdrink crew and serves us some sublime minimal electro that's definitely in vogue right now on "Broakiloop" and "Kamelion" respectively. Broken beats, blips & bleeps and retro sci-fi fantasies are the order of the day here and we we're loving it! On the flip, Reifenberg translates said sensibilities into "Kanion" where he produces a deep minimal house groove that will appeal to fans of Spacetravel or Francesco del Garda's recent works.

Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Felix Reifenberg - "Novacasa"
  2. Felix Reifenberg & Cedric Dekowski - "2014_Patch"
  3. Felix Reifenberg & Thilo Dietrich - "Alome"
  4. Felix Reifenberg, Muanda & Cedric Dekowski - "Lando"
Review: Following plentiful appearances on 87 Records, Felix Reifenberg and Cedric Dekowski make an appearance over at Hardworksoftdrink with some serious slim line house wares that challenge preconceptions and deliver equal amounts of soul and groove. "Novacasa" finds Reifenberg getting into a jazzy mood with skittish drums and wistful pad hum, while he and Dekowski drop a killer shuffle onto the delicate tones of "2014_Patch". On the flipside other characters enter the fold, from Thilo Dietrich's contribution on "Alome" which comes off as an outright oddball house jam that wouldn't sound out of place in a Thomas Melchior set, to Muanda lending a hand for the sumptuous and shuffling "Lando".

Playground EP (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: HWSD 007. Rel: 22 Feb 16
Deep House
  1. Playground (8:17)
  2. Remember 91 (5:51)
  3. Crafty (5:51)
Review: For the seventh release on Hardworksoftdrink, the Frankfurt am Main based collective present us with a collaboration by Restoration and Parasella main man Marieu with upcoming producer Yoshi aka Berlin based Andrea Fioravanti. "Playground" is so typical of the Restoration sound: raw, tough and dusty! This one has so much swing, it sounds like Todd Edwards stuck in a cold, dark London basement. "Remember" is more emotive and soulful; sounds like like classic 430 West in a way, really digging it! Finally "Crafty" gets stuck into some classic Chicago hard house sounds brought up on a diet of Cajual and Relief records sounds.
