Monoklo 2
Monoklo 2 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MNK 002. Rel: 25 Jan 16
Minimal/Tech House
  1. The Wax (5:28)
  2. Drumcatch (Tomoki Tamura remix) (7:04)
  3. Poetry (5:12)
  4. Drumcatch (5:53)
Review: After the success of the first release by Ivan Iacobucci, Holic Trax sublabel Monoklo now enlists Berlin-based Martin Lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and Japanese don Tomoki Tamura. No nonsense opener 'The Wax' is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. "Poetry" then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before Lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with "Drumcatch". Tomoki Tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

Quando Party Dove Vai? EP
Quando Party Dove Vai? EP (140 gram grey marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: HT 014. Rel: 16 Feb 15
Deep House
  1. Resta Pure Dove Sei (feat Modus)
  2. La Ronde Suite (But Not For Me)
  3. Fast Cars
Review: This february Nightdrivers deliver three first-rate cuts on Holic Trax for the 'Quando Party Dove Vai ?' EP. Following on from Burnski's 'The Hours' EP which saw love from names like Mr G, Catz 'N' Dogz, Detroit Swindle and Eats Everything, Holic Trax returns this February with Nightdrivers' 'Quando Party Dove Vai ?'. Since delivering their debut release on Bosconi Records back in 2013 the Berlin-based duo Nightdrivers have been going from strength to strength stacking up further releases on Claap, their own Nightdrivers label and now Holic Trax. To get things underway the light pads of 'Resta Pure Dove Sei' give the opening track a floaty quality while the weighty percussion and subtle rhythms build proceedings into a steady and infectious groove. Nightdrivers appear to go up a gear as the EP progresses with the rippling drums and dynamic arrangements of 'La Ronde Suite (But Not For Me)' while 'Fast Cars' maintains the lively vibe of its predecessor and frenetically bubbles along over busy modulations, wacky intonations and infectious licks to dish up a suitably punchy close to this bouncy EP.

A Funny Thang EP
A Funny Thang EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: HT 022. Rel: 27 Mar 17
Deep House
  1. A Funny Thang (6:49)
  2. Stressedout (6:46)
  3. Rising (vinyl only) (7:07)
  4. Funny Dub Ya Know (6:15)
Review: Italian duo Rufus and Mass_prod are back once again as Nightdrivers, shoring up to Holic Trax with more of their infectious club-ready material. Beyond the functionality of their drums, where the Nightdrivers excel is in their choice of samples and textures to add a psychoactive twist to their craft. "A Funny Thang" is a delightfully unhinged workout, while "Stressedout" does a fine job of digging into a heads down, RnB inflected groove. "Rising" switches things up with a broken beat groove that loads up sunkissed soul samples to great effect, and then the record rounds out with a dub mix of "A Funny Thang".

Flowers From Your Grave EP
Flowers From Your Grave EP (140 gram pink vinyl 12")
Cat: HT 016. Rel: 08 Jun 15
Deep House
  1. Flowers From Your Grave (T2 Edit)
  2. Let's Stay Together
  3. Night Walking
  4. Exit
Review: Holic Trax has established itself as a respected, no nonsense outlet for quality house and
techno and that carries on here with a new EP from Keita Sano that comes on a limited
edition run of coloured vinyl.
Keita Sano is based in Okayama, Japan and has previously released on labels such as
NYC's Mister Saturday Night and Hugo Capablanca's Discos Capablanca. Here he presents
his latest single for the ever excellent Holic Trax in raw and excellent fashion.
Up first, 'Flowers From Your Grave' is a gritty number with tough drums, Detroit inspired pads
and plenty of physicality in the groove. Crisp and dynamic, it's a robust house cut, for sure.
'Let's Stay Together'
is a more party sounding offering with atmospheric ambience in the
back ground as streaming Rhodes chords and organic percussion set a Moodymann style
vibe front and centre.
Then comes 'Night Walking', which flips the script again, this time sinking down into a warm,
propulsive deep house vibe with bold but soft edged chords, driving drums and engaging
hand claps. Lastly, vinyl only cut 'Exit'
is a prickly, raw and frazzled acid number with phased
basslines, panning 303 squelches and plenty of wallop in its bones.
This is a fine EP that is sure to make a big impact on the dance floor.

5ive Years (5iVE YEARS HOLIC TRAX Edition 3) (180 gram transparent vinyl 12")
Cat: HT 025. Rel: 18 Sep 17
Deep House
  1. 5ive Years
  2. Polyphony Six
  3. U’s Floppy Disk
  4. High Chee's
Review: Holic Trax label boss Tomoki Tamura continues his anniversary celebrations by presenting his own work on this third installment of 5ive Years. The title track is a deep and crafty tech house cut suited to more subtle, heads down moments, while "Polyphony Six" keeps things equally moody but fattens out the bass and warms up the lead lines. "U's Floppy Disk" is a more taut, wiry track with gruff drums and splashes of bleepy FX - the perfect tripped out club tool. "High Chee's" lightens the mood at the 11th hour with a more playful melodic line that should fine favour with all kinds of good time DJs.
