Review: Dominick Fernow, known in certain circles by the name of Vatican Shadow or Prurient, is a master of spotting new and interesting talent in and around the doom-electronic-noise spectrum. Exoteric Continent aka Anomia co-founder Arau Sala is one such talent who originally appeared on the UK's Opal Tapes and who was then hit up by Fernow for the digital-only release, Referendum. That was one of 2014's highlights for us and then man has thankfully decided to issue it on vinyl format, issuing those nine slices of sonic insanity on good ol' wax. From "Percentage" to "Agrupacio Civil", there's a notable element of dub within the electronic cacophony taking up the majority of the space. The brittle percussion is delayed, morphed and rendered loose in all places. Check it out, this is tipped!

Review: Hospital Productions is a non-stop operation and following this year's long-players from Alessandro Cortini, Ninos Du Brasil and Ron Morelli, Vatican Shadow's latest swoop is this ambient album produced with Function. The seven-track LP was recorded between Berlin and New York, and it's described as best suited for after-hours home listening, but whether you really want to listen to this after a big night is up to you. Indeed "A Year Has Passed" and "A Year Has Gone By" are downbeat and melancholic, whereas other tracks lean more towards industrial ambient, similar to fellow Hospital artist Lussuria's work. "The Nemesis Flower" is a darker highlight while "Red Opium" and "Bejewelled Body" is where the house and techno beats lie.

Review: It's fairly hard to keep tabs on all the various artists and projects that make up the bewildering Hospital Productions discography, but along with Dominick Fernow's own material one of the few label constants is Lussuria. Since first appearing on the label with the Silk & Honey cassette some four years ago, the elusive Lussuria has gone on to contribute a further eight cross format releases to the Hospital cause, all of which roughly operate in the dark ambient and industrial-influenced end of the spectrum. Industriale Illuminato is Lussuria's second LP for Hospital yet his first to be conceived as a standalone piece (2012's American Babylon LP compiled three cassette releases) and is apparently inspired by Deconstructionism and "an overriding sense of anxiety". Investigate if you are a fan of Demdike Stare's cultish Tryptych releases!

Review: Given his stated role as curator at the head of the 'non-stop' LIES, it makes perfect sense that Ron Morelli would look elsewhere to issue his debut album. Gravitating towards the Hospital Productions label run by Dominick 'Vatican Shadow' Fernow makes equal sense given their shared appreciation of noise, ambient and industrial music. Apparently the first of three planned releases on Hospital from Morelli, it's no little surprise that Spit arrives with much expectation. Spend some time with the eight tracks that make up the LP and you'll begin to understand why Morelli has used such words as pressure, monotony and stress to describe the motivating emotions behind Spit. The corrugated growl of "Modern Paranoia" and the broken metallic rhythms of "Crack Microbes" are considered highlights!

Review: Finally! The LIES bossman delivers the third chapter in his ongoing series of electronic concoctions for Vatican Shadow's ever-brooding Hospital Productions. Whereas Spit was an LP which wasn't sure whether it stood in the techno realm or the noise pool, Periscope Blues is firmly grounded in Morelli's most experimental frame of mind. It feels like a continuation of one concept over 30 minutes, a testament to his obvious passion for beatless, chest-pounding hardware experimentation. Not to be missed...But you knew that already.

Review: Ninos Du Brazil is an enticing prospect. Formed by Italian experimentalists Nicolo Fortuni and Nico Vascellari, the duo fuses live Brazilian percussion with the low-slung pulse of New York post-punk rock and the droning electronics that Hospital Productions is most famous for. The result is a humid, feverish set that gleefully moves between murky intensity ("Sombra Da Lua"), tropical minimalism (the rain forest hypnotism of "Legios Du Cupins"), full-throttle percussive wigouts ("Sepultura") and loose carnival freakery ("Miragem"). For the most part, the electronic elements are subtle, with densely layered percussion and occasional chants taking centre stage. It's a mixture that makes for riveting listening.

Review: Milanese percussionists Ninos Du Brasil were a surprising choice for Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions a few years back: an imprint more usually affiliated with new wave industrial and power electronics. Their rhythmic backbone said to be derived from Brazilian carnival music where they fuse influences of punk, tribal techno and batacuda. Anyone fortunate enough to witness their electrifying live shows can attest to these disparate influences colliding wonderfully. It's yet more powerfully hypnotic, wall of sound rituals on offer with their third full length entitled Vida Eterna; however there are a few pleasant surprises too, such as on "No Meio Da Noite" where their trademark rhythms are meged with a fierce warehouse techno stomp. It calls to mind the polyrhythmic futurism of James Ruskin and Oliver Ho back in the late nineties. Speaking of which "A Magia Do Rei II" sounds like Gymnastics era Regis gone to Carnival. Elsewhere, the powerful wailing on "Condenado Por Un Idioma Desconhecido" resounds through layers of feedback and delay that reminds us of Baile funk and there's also a collboaration with the legendary Arto Lindsay.

Review: Revered noise merchant Dominick Fernow returns under the Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement moniker, following up last year's Ambient Black Magic release - which featured Silent Servant and a dub techno remix by Substance aka DJ Pete. On Red Ants Genesis, Fernow is said to have utilised high volume microphone recordings of synthetic field ecologies, with further sound on sound processing applied by Philippe Hallais aka Low Jack - creating this series of meditative and trance inducing soundscapes. The remix on this release comes from Equiknoxx Music: the Jamaican music collective of Gavsborg and Time Cow, who hand in an introverted and very personal dub of the title track.

Review: ** Repress on clear vinyl ** Hospital Productions have been around for a hell of a long time, with releases dating back to 1998. For the last fifteen years they've progressed impressively and have grown by expanding their catalogue as far as black metal. Silent Servant, one half of the now defunct Sandwell District label, makes his comeback for the American label with sheer elegance and emotion. Negative Fascination is a true LP, with all the productions representing an entity rather than a collection of dancefloor tools. Tracks such as "Invocation Of Lust", which sway effortlessly across desolate plains of synths and distant melodies, fall neatly into place with others; "Moral Divide (Endless)" being its natural epilogue as ghostly sounds and transmuted effects are caught in a whirlpool of rough, analogue beats. Only certain parts such as "The Strange Attractor" could be bracketed as belonging to the techno realm, with most other tracks containing much more than just club antics. "Temptation & Desire" could only be considered techno in so far as its dark approach, but it's the ingenious sound arrangements that fall between their spaces which make this album a true gem. Highly recommended.

Review: Although Dominick Fernow has already released a vast amount of material under the Vatican Shadow moniker, and some of which - including It Stands To Conceal and Ormamented Walls - have appeared in LP format, Remember Your Black Day is supposedly the project's debut proper, with the other LPs being made up of cassette releases and other material. Described by the label as "the most direct and propulsive Vatican Shadow material yet," and was produced with the assistance of Silent Servant producer Juan Mendez. Although much of the Vatican Shadow material to date has been frenetic and noisy, there's a sense of calm present in this LP which marks it out, with the slow moving "Enter Paradise" and reflective '80s synth textures of "Tonight Saddam Walks Amidst Ruins" offering some refective sombre moments. Despite that there are still some driving tracks as well, with "Not The Son Of Desert Storm, But The Child Of Chechnya" offering a particularly ferocious moment of clattering industrial textures. Highly recommended.

Review: The first Hospital Productions release of the year sees the label present a vinyl edition of the Wounded Laurel tape from Virile Games issued in uber limited quantities last year. The work of Hospital regular Max Gudmundson, Virile Games will appeal to fans of The Caretaker and Helm and the six tracks here are finely balanced between moments of fragile beauty and ominous drone. The dense collage of deep bass and nervous percussive scrapings on "Nailed to the Living Heart of Heaven" and the gorgeous strings and shimmering textural passages of "Firmament" stand out and are reminiscent of some of the contrasts in Demdike Stare's classic Voices Of Dust.
