Review: It's fair to say Lorenz Brunner's profile as Recondite has rocketed in the two years since he last appeared on Hotflush with DRGN / Wist 365 which is largely due to getting scooped up by the Ghostly International label for last year's widely praised Hinterland LP. A lot has happened stylistically with Hotflush in this period too, though recent output suggests the label is swinging back to the sort of techno Recondite is known for. A notion qualified by this new 12". The A-side provides this Caldera 12" with a sparse and broken techno image that may have well found it's way on to Scuba's Sub:stance mix back in the day had it been around then. Meanwhile on the flip, Recondite goes for a heavy and metallic, yet soulful, sound which will appease the rootops of Ibiza revellers to the grey, concrete clubbers of Berlin.
Review: Some six months after Paul "Scuba" Rose delivered a fine first album from his vowel-free SCB project, Hammer and Mor Elian step up to remix two of that set's most celebrated tracks. Bicep associate Hammer handles "Test Tubes", rolling out a mix bristling with crispy percussion, mind-mangling electronic riffs, foreboding electronic bass and chiming melodies. In contrast, LA producer and Hypercolour regular Mor Elian opts for a more loose-limbed and broken rhythmic approach, cannily showcasing her love of alien electronics and fuzzy ambient textures over stabbing analogue bass and sweaty, jazz-wise machine drums.
Review: Hotflush head honcho Scuba returns to his esteemed imprint, following up hot releases by Liverpudlian newcomer Or:la, scene stalwart/acid freak LA-4A and the experimental electronics of Munich's Pyur. Under his SCB alias, he is probably best known for 'heads-down' style grooves and definitely more on the aggressive side. The dusty and dank "Test Tubes" is warm-up music for clandestine warehouse raves, while "Freedom For The Fifty" sees him offer up an impressive perspective of old school, Detroit style electro. From here, you start to see that it's a really diverse yet cohesive offering: with the hypnotic dancefloor drama of "Oration" showing something more consistent with his label's overall sound, while the evocative and life affirming retro electronica of "Laboratory Conditions" closes out the EP in style - something you would have heard at one of those legendary raves under the M25 back in the early '90s.

Review: Hotflush head honcho Scuba dons the more uncompromising SCB moniker for his first album under this alias. Caibu incorporates material from his recent 'Below The Line' and 'Old Media New Society' EPs and continues with the theme of this conceptual series. It explores the idea of an 'imagined surgical procedure where cognitive ability is augmented through transplant from one brain to another' - heavy stuff! Indeed there are a variety of moods and scenes presented across the album's sonic narrative, beginning with the typically moody and heads down vibe of opening cut "Test Tubes" or the dystopian electro bass of "Freedom For The Fifty" (Caibu Adjustment version), through to lush cosmic ambience on "Laboratory Conditions" and even some industrial styled textural abrasions - as heard on the difficult "Intelligence Fetish".
Review: We're really glad to see Praveen and Travis 'Machinedrum' Stewart back on the scene and on Hotflush Recordings. The duo are always a pleasure to hear, and especially if they are accompanied by two heavy-hitters like Prins Thomas and Giegling/White associate Edward. The two producers each have a go at remising tunes from Sepalcure's latest album Folding Time, and they just seem like the perfect duo to mix things up in and proper. Norway's disco king Prins Thomas transforms "Fight For Us" into a lazy, beach-ready disco swelter with a poppy edge that seems to sway between balearic and boogie; Giegling's deep house experimenter Edward goes a little bit wilder by reshaping "Loosen Up" into shuffle house banger with a supremely off-kiter edge.
