Pulse (4:40)
Procedure (3:42)
Review: High pressure manoeuvres from Ilian Tapes on this mysterious and highly limited one-off run. 'Pulse' is a Samurai style slab of hybrid dub techno that's layered in grains and textures whole 'Procedure' flips the UK garage two-step vibe into a distorted, crunchy and physical groove that's not dissimilar to Tim Wright's early work on Mute. Once again, a very special release from Ilian... Blink and you'll miss it.

Review: New Andrea material on Ilian Tape - incoming! The mysterious techno maverick returns to the German imprint with four new slices of sci-fi funk, packaged in the artist's usual blend of synth experimentation and 90s d&b flavours. "20th November" is a booming, piledriver of a tune suited to the world's biggest dancefloors, while "Layer" breaks the groove down with heavier injections of breaks and growling bass tones. The B-side kicks off with "Radiant", a beat-heavy, dubwise joint that reminds us of Shed's Head High material, leaving "Remade" to stutter in space with its off-kilter beats and glitchy percussion swings. Masterful.

Barnard 68
Review: Andrea finds himself going from strength to strength with each release he delivers Ilian Tape and "Clouds" is definitely the hit track on this record. Just listen to that arpeggio and those drums. "Drain" is also another great production which you can imagine DJs like Truncate and Ben Sims through to Marcel Dettmann and the Lobster Theremin crew championing, while over on the B1 there's "Void", a smooth and deep, syncopated techno cut. Lastly, the frenetic drums in "Barnard 68" hold down a tight groove while grimey blobs of bleeps pop and burst like cooling molten lava.

Review: Ilian Tape staple Andrea returns to the imprint, marking a big one for the Munich-based operation with a massive album by Skee Mask also this week. As always, UK and rave influences are abundant throughout the talented producer's work and this one is no exception. This EP is called Sktch and features the cavernous, glacial and downright knackered dub techno of 'Sarec', followed by the sinister subterranean breaks of Auxl and the meditative deep dubstep frequencies of 'Kjones' which sees him delve deeper into off kilter territory.

Rainbow (4:56)
Machine (5:00)
Choral (5:39)
Review: Over the last few years, Dario and Marco Zenker's excellent Ilian Tape has given us some of the purest and most bold-faced techno around. The label has built up a solid reputation as being all about the music, minus the hype, and Italy's Andrea has been there at the forefront of their growth. The Turin-based producer returns to the moody imprint with his third EP for the label, led by the thumping, hypnotic swings of "Outlines" - containing possibly the best kick drums we've heard since Head High - and the break-ridden journey that is "Rainbow", on the A-side. The flip sees "Machine" enter a no nonsense mode, where a fast percussive groove locks tightly within a sea of intergalactic pads, and dubby, broken pastures on "Choral". All in all, this is a fine selection of wild, dare-to-be-different dancefloor tracks that span many styles and influences. Tip!

22:22 (5:54)
Review: Italy's Andrea is now a trusted member of the Ilian Tape collective, having only released for the German label thus far. But, why would he go elsewhere? These guys are on fire, and releasing some of the most interesting shades of industrial 4/4 these days. This is his fourth EP for the throng, and "Floating" starts off with a beatless, wide-eyed landscape of soft pads to introduce the twisted, shifting, break-driven tech of "Timed". "Queue A", on the flip of the disc, is a driving pile of rusty kick drums and oceanic pads that head into the deeper end of the techno sphere, while "22:22" goes all-out on the jungle patterns with its broken groove that recalls the likes of LTJ Bukem or Dego at their more pacy moods. A killer of an EP!

Pipe Dreams (5:05)
Review: Four big, booming , bass heavy tracks from Swiss production and DJ duo Atrice that stand astride several genre definitions from dubstep to techno and electro. The pair pride themselves on their sound design and it certainly lends a subtle but perceptible air to the hair raising frequencies flying around on the likes of 'Backrooms' and 'Pipe Dreams', the two most obvious contenders for the dubstep tag. 'Chamber Of Mazarbul' and the more electronica-slanted 'Nulspace' are less conventional - at least by general standards if not the wonderfully wayward 'rules' of the eternally renegade Ilian Tape label - but equally thunderous and well executed.

Review: Ilian Tape have been sympathetic to the sound of UK bass for some time now, but this new drop from Atrice leans even further into the pervading energy of dubstep as a source of club pressure. The Swiss duo first appeared on Ilian Tape with Q back in 2021, and they're sounding stronger than ever on this latest missive. If 'Multiplex' brings a cybernetic sheen to headsy 140, then 'Is It Warm' does similar work with techy d&b as the pair dice up breakbeats with precision and drape exquisite, shimmering pads over the ruffness. There's also space for crafty techno propulsion on 'Broke' and high-tempo trippiness on '83 Steps', making this a versatile, consistently brilliant release from a rising force in the scene.

Review: Ilian Tape welcomes long-time Swiss mainstay Deetron here returning to an old project, Soulmate. It finds the veteran in top form from the off with 'Monophone Dub' taking off at real pace. The techno drums are overlaid with jumbled percussion and underline with sleek bass, then 'In Main' gets even heavier but no less funky. The tunneling techno vibe continues on 'Reflection' with its thumping kicks and more layers of toms, hits and shakers and 'Tribe One' closes with another upright, linear, pumping percussive techno groove for the peak time. This EP shows a different and equally compelling side to Deetron's sound.

Review: Deetron's been turning out serene house and techno for many a year but he changes tact here and presents Soulmate on Ilian Tape. It's an EP with a wide array of influences and kicks off with 'Path' which is bright, melodic, electric house music with cow bells galore. 'Zoom' is tightly coiled, loopy, dusty, turbocharged tackle with a warming intensity and then 'Screen' pairs more balmy and blissed-out chords with hurried beats and layers of FX and percussion. Last of all is the best of the lot - 'Blade'. It's a tribal, percussive cut that cannot fail to sweep you off your feet.

Review: "Drone Destructing Body Slams" says Ilian Tape of their next genre-defying offering, this time from the long-time Swiss underground mainstay that is Deetron. More normally known for this smooth and seductive deep house and techno sounds, here he presents Soulmate which is about much more edgy and textural techno stompers. 'Filter' comes as two mixes. The Body Mix is a turbocharged cut with dense layers of grime, synth and percussion and powered by some Shed-style piano stabs. The Broken mix cuts looser and has broken beats down low while 'Drone' gets the head up with its brighter synths swirls up top. The loopy, rusty low end is no less physical however then 'Bourg' brings some celebratory energy with its light chords and rousing sense of joy throughout.

Review: DJ Plant Texture is Donato Basile, a diverse producer from Bari. He returns to Munich-based Ilian Tape to follow up 2017's The Bongoman Archive with four slamming cuts on his latest EP. Whether it's pummelling, bass-driven ruckus of 'MPC Jam 1' (Breaks mix) or the off-kilter slam of MPC Jam 2' (Saturator mix) on the A side, to the proper, peak time heads-down stomp of 'MPC Jam 3' (Exp Forever mix). Finally, the early '90s zeitgeist of 'Ciao Ragazze Jungle Style' goes out all guns blazing. On the MPC Thangs EP, this talented Italian producer is at his most fearsome yet.

Let The Machine Speak (Jazz mix) (3:50)
Review: Everyone's favourite low-res poly-rendered rave organism DJ Plant Texture returns to their fave label Ilian Tape for their least forgiving, least fluffy and most wayside-thrown techno EP yet. Contrasting to their earlier lo-fi MPC workouts and electro freak-shows, the best of which were also released on the Amsterdam imprint, Plant Texture here switches things up, offering up four jackbooted 4x4 techno bits so menacing that they verge on a dastard take on the Brummy school. An obsession with rhythm and percussive texture rears its head; A-siders 'DDrumz' and 'Mechanical Bongos' are truly intrigued by the drum, revelling in pure, circular samply bongo and timbalero repetition; the theme continues on B-sider 'Dubbish', which only does so much as add a scopeout dub chord stab to the mix, yet still sounds sick; 'Let The Machine Speak (Jazz Mix)', finally, seems to hold the work of fellow techy rhythmusoidal geek Machinedrum firmly in mind, seeming to cleverly parody the artist's Ninja Tune/Vapor City IDM era with a jeering nu-footwork-jazz half-smile.

Review: In 2012, the Zenker brothers introduced a new series on their Ilian Tape imprint: The Bias Tapes. We are now into the third edition come 2018 and it's a great one, we must say. Like the name may suggest, The Munich Edition features some heroes of the local scene such as Kareem El Morr: who delivers the dark side electro bass of "Eros 404", likewise label boss Dario Z. (ft. Maurice P.) goes down the same toute on "CEJ". Elsewhere, dubby and cyclical warehouse techno in the vein of G-Man can be heard on Konrad Wehrmeister's "CWS" and usual suspects Marco & Stenny hammer the message home in typically bold fashion with the emotive "Imcon".

Review: Munich's cult favourite Ilian Tape brings some high-energy techno euphoria here from Fireground. Opener 'Recreation' is bristling synths and rattling percussion over closely stacked drums. 'Spice Up' keeps the same vibe but this time with brighter, more tranced-tinged chords which will get smiles on faces and hands in the air. 'Bamboo' is another intense wall of sound and 'Noise Of Light' then brings a more stripped-back side with funky drum programming and paranoid, searching synths up top. What a trip as ever from this innovative crew.

Review: Neapolitan duo Fireground have been on a rapid ascent since debuting on Tresor in 2021, and following their Recreation 12" earlier this year they return to Ilian Tape for a second round of immersive, high-pressure techno soul. Compared to a lot of the dark and dystopian sounds infiltrating the faster reaches of the modern techno scene, Fireground have a strong sense of uplift which comes through in abundance on the likes of 'Memories', as harmonious, dubbed-out pads and thunderous drums collide for maximum positive response. If you need to inject some energy into a techno dancefloor, these tracks will achieve results beyond your wildest dreams.

Review: Following fine releases on Shipwrec, Natural Sciences and Return To Disorder, masked electro/techno misfit Galaxian (real name Mark Kastner) makes his first appearance on Ilian Tape. The Glasgow-based producer starts in suitably big fashion via "External Observer", where what sounds like an orchestra of synthesizers gets to work over a skittish, bass-heavy electro beat, before exploring more dystopian dancefloor pastures on the moody, alien-sounding and otherworldly "Fuzzy Clouds Of Potential Existence". On side B he gives his out-there interpretation of early jungle ("Coming Up For Air"), batters a broken computer into submission and makes electro gold out of it (the slightly melancholic "Mechanistic Control Fantasies") and soundtracks the end of days (or possibly Brexit) on weirdo closing cut "Terminal Phase".

From the hard swing on the dusty, bass-driven opener 'Box's (Remaster)' to 'Collection Of Stuff' which is very much reminiscent of his seminal work in the early '00s with its driving hypnotic polyrhythms. On the flip, there are two versions of 'Rhino' using the same Michael Jackson sample as Jeff Mills did on his classic 'Call Of The Wild'. Just like that Purpose Maker classic, these two tribal techno tools are equally worthy of a place in your record bag - tip!

Review: Fifteen years after first starting out, Munich's masterful Ilian Tape is still finding plenty of fresh new ground to explore in its niche world of scuffed-up and broken-beat techno. The latest to do so is KW, who nails the vibe perfectly here with futurist loops 'Source Mag', hefty minimalism on 'Rats Mixing', deeper linear techno on 'ZFGT0505' and a rhythmically playful thinker in the form of 'One Day.' Review: KW has long been a talented producer who has operated in the shadows. He emerges from them now with another EP on Ilian Tape only six or so months after his last standout effort. Altgr is another fine one that opens with 'Midnight Run', a skittish flurry of breakbeats and snares, grumbling bass and kinetic energy that never lets up. 'Paste' is just as rhythmically inventive, this time lurching backwards and forwards but with more pensive pads and 'Copy' keeps up the leftfield inventions that make this return so welcome. 'Lastmin_Res' closes out in head-spinning fashion.

Review: Munich's mighty Ilian Tape is the next label on which Laksa impresses with this new Voices 12". First out of the blocks is the sound system bothering 'Tech Steppas' with its wobbly low end and percolating dark drum funk. 'LEO' brings a more brutal broken beat with elastic bass that makes you move in many different directions at once while 'The Art Of Slip' is a pounding mix of thudding kicks, tripped-out vocal loops and moody synth menace that never lets up. Last but not least is 'Enjoyment' which rides on a thrilling and airy half-speed percussive rhythm that has plenty of height to it. Another inventive EP from the Ilian crew.

Review: Releases on the Ilian Tape label are nearly always two things - a) shrouded in mystery, and b) a little unconventional. Given that the painter who created the artwork gets a credit on the 12"s label but the musician or musicians themselves get no mention, it's fair to assume a) has been fulfilled. The music itself fulfils b) too, as hard edged rhythms clocking in closer to electro than techno provide a vehicle much softer, more sensitive musical flourishes. 'WantU' is probably the overall highlight, with its crystal clear arp riffing and Kraftwerk-esque bumping, but 'Chiemgau606', the rawer 'OSC' and 'Sinister808' should all appeal to those who like their grooves esoteric and full of personality - but ultimately still dancefloor slaying.

Review: The ball of Ilian Tape keeps getting bigger and bigger and adding to it this time is new name Rupcy (our guess, a Marko Zenker alias). Chances are this record is already getting major play throughout Europe's clubs at the moment and it's likely that the A1, "Utow", is what's getting worn away most. This is because of the killer call and response combo between the bleeps and short air raid siren. With its Markus Suckut kick drum, "Can" is a dirty club track perfect for DJs looking to transition into something deeper while still wanting to remain hard-edged. On the B-side the title "Assemblage" has a slight Fachwerk ring to it, as does the crunchy hi-hats and other aggravated fizzes of the track which leads into an Aphex Twin-sounding ambient broken-beat session called "Bows".

The influential pair serve up two top cuts here bit both hit the mark. 'Volt' kicks off and is turbo charged by synths that come on like electric shockwaves and drill down through the mix of bright chords and tight breakbeats. Consume IV marks his fifth appearance of the Zenker brothers' imprint, and sees him joining the dots between hardcore-era breakbeat house, techno and UK garage. Opener "Lights On" brilliantly fuses together loose rave breaks and spacey deep house chords, while "Consumer's Tool" is a bumpin' garage roller complete with skipping New Jersey beats and bass-heavy British attitude. Stenny heads back towards standard techno territory on the heavy and hypnotic "Scanner", before breaking up the beats once more on the bruk-goes-to-Detroit-via-Sheffield loveliness of "Westward".

Last spotted on the previous V/A EPs, this is his first solo EP for over 18 months and he's making up for lost time... Opener "Stress Test" hits like a cross between Youngstar and Tim Wright circa 2001 while "ElasTCT" takes a much bumpier technoid approach in a way you could imagine Craig Richards playing at 5am. "Adequate Force" racks up the electro shock therapy with a blistering breakbeat whipslap which DJ Stingray would happily play, before closer "Fail Better (Bent Mix)" takes things back to the jungle foundations. All molten breaks and glacial pads. Keep it rolling.

Eternal Restriction (Zenker Brothers remix)
Review: The Zenker Brothers welcome Italian producer Stenny back into the Ilian Tape fold for a third time, with the Eternal Restriction 12" offering a further refinement on his distinctive blend of heavy bass, loud sonics and rhythmic syncopation. Indeed it's the latter element that binds Stenny's three original productions together, with rough and rugged drums the base from which the Turin talent pulls his productions in various directions. There's a dense, alien hustle to the title track that Actress fans left a bit underwhelmed by Ghettoville would gravitate towards, whilst "Boulders" sounds like it recycles a drum beat from a 90s Armand Van Helden track and buries it deep amidst a dirt encrusted techno thrust. Dario and Marco end the record with a remix of the title track that evens out a few of the kinks without edging too close to being straightforward.

Trilithe (Paul Du Lac Rhythm remix)
Review: Dario and Maco Zenker's Ilian Tape label debuts newcomer Stenny with Solstice Deity, an EP hinged on heavy bass, loud sonics and rhythmic syncopation. Would-be trance synths make for melodious breathers of comfort in between the heavy industrial ballasts of drums in "Outime Artifacts", while "Surface Hoax" pumps with the scuzzing and electrified power of a ruinous thunderstorm. "Trilithe" sees Stenny fuse housey elements with a strong low end presence; similar to SCB's earlier remixes. The EPs remix comes from Paul du Lac, who rips and contorts "Trilithe" with elongated and short bursts of flange and phasing effects, which gives the track an acid tinged bounce - similar to much of his music heard on Clone's Jack For Daze Series.

Review: It's surprising that Stenny have been kept strictly within the bounds of Ilian Tape thus far, given the distinctive nature of their output, but that's all the better for the label. The quality remains pleasingly high on this latest single, while at five tracks they're no slouches on quantity either. "Caveberg" makes a strong opening statement with its fractious groove and dreamy swathes of grainy chords, while "Hagale" represents a more propulsive if no less swinging techno romp. "Sublimation" meanwhile fuses both concerns to make for a thoroughly cosmic approach to tough, jagged techno, and "Ruins" layers its percussion in a thrilling, tribally-influenced formation before "Three Mile Island" cools the record down with a straining, distorted slice of ambience.

Review: Frankly, we cannot get enough of the beautifully powerful breakbeats that Stenny serves up, most often on Ilian Tape. They manage to be heavy and physical but so meticulously well crafted that they also somehow sound artful. Here on opener 'Wipe Out' scuffed-up claps brush up against busted synth motifs and bulbous bass as crisp hits drive things on. On the flip, 'Permission' ups the ante with drums and hits making along a warehouse floor with raves synth stabs adding light and edginess. It is the perfect dancing material for the dead of night on lovely heavyweight vinyl.

Onda (4:23)
Quadra (4:45)
Review: The ever-excellent Ilian Tape label regular Stenny's 'Onda' comes as a limited one-time pressing "square wave homage" on 180g vinyl and as ever with this artist both tracks are devastatingly heavy and perfect for ultimate dance floor destruction. The title track takes up the A-side and is a crisp and snappy breakbeat underpinned by vast plunging bass notes and detailed with subtle electric fizzes and fills that are all-conquering. 'Quadra' is no less direct with its mix of physical low ends and microscopic details all warping mind and body in equal measure. Do not sleep on this one.

Stenny & Andrea - "Sea"
Andrea - "Hera"
Andrea - "Passage"
Stenny - "How The Story Ends"
Review: Ilian Tape's milestone 20th release sees a similar combination to what we saw on Project Squared's not-so milestone, but landmark, 7th release. Basically Stenny and Andrea have hooked up in the same way Tom Diciccio and Kowton did to produce a self-and-collaboratively produced Untitled EP. A1 is Stenny & Andrea together; a gritty and soulful combination of house, techno and tinges of electro. The inner A sees Andrea go solo and produce something as rough and spacious as what you could expect from Kyle Hall, while over on the B-side, Andrea fills in the gaps with extra bass, drums and stressed synths. Stenny wraps up the EP with the quick BPMs and crushed sonics of the aptly "How The Story Ends".

Hostages Of The Deep (5:17)
Review: Ilian Tape overlords the Zenker Brothers have long been fans of Surgeon's brand of no-holds-barred, industrial-strength techno. While the Birmingham-born producer has previously played live at label events, this blistering three-tracker marks his first outing for the Munich based imprint. Interestingly, opener "The Golden Sea" is arguably a little dreamier and warmer than much of his output, with melancholic chords and bubbly electronic motifs riding a forthright and intergalactic techno groove. Elsewhere, "Aqua Marina" wraps more alien-sounding lead lines and shimmering chords around a more stripped-back, redlined rhythm track and "Hostages Of The Deep" sounds like a far-sighted fusion of classic Surgeon, Drexciya and Livity Sound.

Review: Enduring UK techno legend Surgeon links up with one of the modern scene's most vital labels in Munich's Ilian Tape. His fierce four track spreads mind melting synth work and industrial tinged percussion of a range of BPMs, with 'Place Of Angels' being the most raved up and intense. 'Europa Code' is a much slower and more mindful tune with a snaking rhythm and mysterious leads and 'Crater 101' is the blistering peak time banger any techno set needs. 'Winged Assassin' is our favourite, though, with its nagging synth loops and clattering percussion being a perfect mix of tension and release.

Sorting Peanuts (5:14)
Sample Predator (5:45)
Review: It's double trouble again from ever reliable Bavarian brethren: Dario and Marco Zenker. The Ilian Tape head honchos seem to look for inspiration from the West Midlands techno scene circa the mid '90s. The splintered, full-throttle machinations of A side cut "Sorting Peanuts" call to mind Force + Form era Surgeon with its stuttered and jarring pace - making equal room for tension and suspense. On the flip, the greyscale factory floor stomp of "Sample Predator" will please fans of the Downwards back catalogue - British Murder Boys and Female in particular.

Review: With their combined output and that of the artists they put out on Ilian Tape, Dario and Marco Zenker are certainly a formidable force in the German techno scene and here they're back on their own turf with four imaginative cuts that keep dancefloor focus in mind without giving way to tracky functionality. "Heeman" punches with the most forthright thrust of all the jams, riding some skippy hats over a rumbling tom-like bassline and tense synths, while "Mount Eleven" swerves out into broken beat territory with whirling wraiths of melody sealing the deal on a psychedelic and engrossing atmosphere. "Kentay" too comes packaged in a fragmented framework although the bottom end hits with a greater heft than its predecessor, and then "Watz" finishes proceedings off with a short sojourn into heavy-laden ambient material.

Review: Munich's pride The Zenker Brothers throw down a 'focused daily positivity practice' for Hidden Shelter, the latest release on their Ilian Tape imprint. The result is four tracks that read like a self-help manual: get motivated by the industrial strength breaks of 'Enjoy Reality', followed by the dubbed-out, greyscale stomp of 'Look Precisely' and find your vision. Turn over to side B and clarity awaits, albeit beyond the dense fog of the cavernous and glacial 'Focus On Positivity' and closing it out is the steely power of 'Practice Daily' which is rather typical of the duo's renown style and sure to inspire the potential in others.
