Spring
Wake Up
Wake Up (Mark-Henning remix)
Review: Berliner Bodine has been making a name for himself on the international house and techno scene since 2001. "Spring" has a brooding sub bass and tight percussion, along with Todd's trademark bleeps, blips and blops which grow into perfectly timed drops. All the groove you need to kick things off but also just enough of the impact and power you need for peak-time mayhem too! On "Wake Up" Todd slows it down a little. The darker, more haunting melody cheats you into thinking this is going to be a slow burner. On the remix of "Wake Up" Mark Henning roughens up the percussion and gives us a slightly more gruff bassline whilst still managing to maintain a tight dancefloor appeal. The warped melodies, chopped up vocals and dark grunts add to making this a more heady affair than the original.

Beat The Bump (Franco Cinelli remix)
Review: Franklin de Costa has been making his mark internationally over the past couple of years. As the title suggests, this is not for the faint hearted. It's intense, squirming bassline, sinister vocal, and aggressive metallic synths create an uncomfortable but infectious groove with a kick like a mule! A mangled build of noise results in metallic mental overload, finally settling down into a jacking groove, with a hook full of massive dancefloor appeal.

A Time Before Now EP
A Time Before Now EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: IMM 042. Rel: 18 Jan 16

Minimal House/Tech House
A Time Before Now (Millennium mix) (7:08)
Rebuilding (original mix) (5:10)
On The Road (original mix) (6:30)
Review: Immigrant Records launched in 1998 and after a six year hiatus is back with an EP produced by US techno veteran Casey Hogan - his first vinyl release since 2008. Casey emerged in the late 90's with fellow techno legends Adam Beyer, Dietrich Schoenemann, Alexi Delano and Jesper Dahlback and is a pioneer of the original tech-house genre. Now a professional sound engineer, he is back doing what he does best and is currently working on new projects and remixes with Robin Porter for Immigrant and Shva Muzik. The EP's title track "A Time Before Now" was produced back in 2000 and has been pulled from his archives to show what tech-house was, is and should be, with it's shuffling percussion, arresting bass line, pensive chord lines and introspective vocals. "Rebuilding" highlights Casey's ability to create an effortless techno groove that chugs along with undulating sub bass and hypnotic synth patterns. "On The Road" takes a detour down a darker road with a haunting sub bass, trademark shuffling percussion and mesmerising chords.

Beasts From Below
Beasts From Below (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: IMM 043. Rel: 03 May 16

Deep House
Underworld
Immortal Melody
Hydras Dance
Review: "HYDRAFUNK is an exciting Detroit Techno inspired collaboration between Immigrant Records owner and label manager Robin Porter and US analogue synth guru Mike Carr. The duo first collaborated back in 2002 releasing the 'Mental Stealth EP' on Immigrant, featuring the bassline and synth heavy 'Fathernature', a track that found it's way on 'Evil' Eddie Richard's Fabric 16 mix CD. Their debut three track EP, Beasts From Below, fuses the analogue aptitude of Mike Carr and Robin Porter's attention to sound frequency, arrangement detail and understanding of the dance floor, delivering an intoxicating peak time package of delight. "Underworld" is a deep journey of melodic synth work and chugging groove that travels into dark territories, complimented by uplifting percussion that builds into a peak time beast from the deep. On the flip, "Immortal Melody" delves even further into moody territory delivering a tantalising array of dreamy synths and jackin' old school percussion, that submerges into an abyss of texture before rising up into a dance floor banger. Closer "Hydra's Dance" is definitely not a token bonus track and is the most dance floor friendly cut; featuring Robin's knack for creating powerful basslines, unique vocals and Mike's ability to create depth and texture with his analogue synth programming."

Fathernature (Todd Bodine's dub)
Fathernature (Alland Byallo remix)
Fathernature (Barem remix)
Fathernature (Mariel Ito reformation)
Review: Immigrant welcomes Todd Bodine (Tresor/Highgrade) to the label, twisting the track into a bubbling housey groover, that jacks along until the synthy bassline punches in and builds, and builds, and builds before dropping you back down to get sweaty! New kid on the block, Barem (Minus/Foundsound) strips the track back as far as it can possibly go, concentrating on a hypnotic deep bass line and sparse snappy snares Barem's dropping a dark room bomb, already receiving plays from one Richie Hawtin. Finally on D2 Mariel Ito (aka Maetrik) of SCSI-AV, Ai and Triebstoff fame delivers us his reformation. A fat electro mix, using thick drums and much of the original bass line, this coupled with vocoder snippets provide us a with a futuristic track that will appeal to fans of people such as Anthony Rother and Silicon Scally - dope!
