Like It Is
The Way You Move
Review: The A-track "Like It Is" is a subtle tune that leads into the healthier, more melodious side of d&b. Flip for a more basic and raw roller with some haunting samples. For the ones who doubt.. Calibre is still the man.

Typical Things (6:12)
Simple Sa (6:24)
Review: Calibre on Marky's Innerground - do we need to say any more? Once again the Belfast auteur sends us dizzy with his broad strokes across the D&B spectrum. "Typical Things" plunges us into his darker dancefloor side, similar to that of his killer "4AM" EP on 31, with a pulsating bass warp and stripped back architecture while "Simple Sa" dusts off the steel string for more of a sunset lullaby loaded with his own gilded dulcets. A match made in heaven.

Review: Russian roustabouts Command Strange and Intelligent Manners collide for some head-to-head fun on Marky's Innerground imprint. The vinyl edition features a select cut of the full album's 12 tracks which do well to highlight the duo's broad style. From the jaw-dropping darkness of "Frontline" to the gully jump up rawness of "Ghetto Drama" by way of soulful duvet moments such as "Jumpin' The Sun" and the jazz-licked "Uptight", each of these cut have been tried and tested by the big bossman himself. And this is only half the album!

Seven Stars
Velvet
Review: Stoking the flames on the a-side is "Seven Stars". A short intro leads to a ghostly piano riff laced with latent female vocals. Once past the break a wave of bass and percussion rises to envelop the eardrums with a sense of impending doom. The track continues to bob and weave with undulating rhythm throughout and shows a true affinity with the Innerground temperament and style. For the flip we have "Velvet", an altogether more subtle and natural track. Simplicity is the key here and the achievement of such an earthy bass tone cannot be underestimated. The bass oscillates beautifully around a plain and true beat which ticks all the boxes for those late nights. This is guaranteed to keep bodies moving. Heavy DJ support from Zinc, LTJ Bukem, DJ Marky, Bryan Gee, Fabio, Grooverider, Laurent Garnier, Gilles Peterson, Friction and Roni Size.

Silly (6:05)
It's A Long... (feat Makoto) (5:14)
Review: Where do you go when all you need are sexy summer vibes and the type of beats that roll for days? DJ Marky's house, obviously. In lieu of actually receiving an invitation to the man's Brazilian Maison, may we suggest this double helping of sweet summery goodness, guaranteed to get your feet moving and your heart smiling. Marky is the king of soulful drum and bass and both "Silly" and "Firenzi" are hot enough to get things heated on the dancefloor. Set them off and feel the sun come out. Perfect.

Freedom (original instrumental version - bonus track)
Review: For all his dancefloor destroying singles and party-starting anthems, Brazilian D&B legend DJ Marky hasn't much pedigree when it comes to the album format. In fact, My Heroes is his debut solo full-length, and his first album of any sort since XRS collaboration In Rotation way back in 2004. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that My Heroes has a celebratory feel throughout, with Marky delivering a range of melodious, soulful, carnival-friendly rollers and spiralling, anthem-like cuts (see recent single "Silly"). These are interspersed with a number of surprising diversions, including two memorable trips into soulful house territory ("Around You", the samba-flecked "Freedom"), and the synth-boogie influenced goodness of "Bella Drix".

You Know
Review: Believe it or not, this is Marky's debut solo record! Years in the game with a reputation as one of D&B's most exciting DJs, and owner of one of the scene's most consistent, reliable labels, he's been so busy until now it's been collabo o' clock. Worth the wait? You bet. "Ya Thing" is a carousel of soul and sassy keys that rolls in a typically understated fashion. "You Know" takes the vibrancy up a level with a spine-tingle-heavy vocal sample nestled deep into the never-ending groove. Class cuts from one of the scene's most reliable faces. More please Mr M!

Love Break
Review: ***B-STOCK: Record slightly warped with creasing to corners of outer sleeve but otherwise in perfect working condition***

Brand new Marky! It's about time... Four years after his "My Heroes" album landed (and two years after his last single - "Silly VIP") the Sao Paulo don returns with two perfect soulful D&B gems. "Should I" looks back to the early 2000s with its powerful sample and Bingo-style bubbling bassline while "Love Break" takes off where "Silly" left us; swooping instrumentation that will have you leaping behind the decks and a break that will never ever quit. Don't leave it so long please Marky!

No Time 2 Love
Codename A1
Review: DJ Marky alongside his new Brazilian protégé Bungle kickstarts the summer vibes with this quality track. Innerground presents the latest in a string of hits for Brazilian Drum and Bass legend DJ Marky and his new right-hand man Bungle. DJ Marky needs no introduction and has continued his great form alongside fellow compatriot Bungle who's first release on Innerground was an overwhelming success. 'No Time To Love' has been a huge hit on the dancefloor and brings out the best in Latin vibes from the other side of the pond. 'Codename A.1' is another funk-filled classic from the Brazilian duo and has all the makings of a summer smash. DJ Support from Zinc, LTJ Bukem, DJ Marky, Bryan Gee, Fabio, Grooverider, Laurent Garnier, Gilles Peterson, Friction, Roni Size and many more.

2nd Chance
Review: The Juno review team's hangover cure of choice is celebrated on this release from Innerground Records which pairs label boss and all round Brazilian drum and bass legend Marky once more with his Japanese counterpart Makoto. Not that we suggest you slip the needle on "Bloody Mary" when you are suffering from a heavy night however, it's rolling rhythms, heavy basslines and unmistakable talent for infectious keys are far more appropriate for the times that cause the hangover! On the flip TI demonstrates further why he's being tipped as a rising talent with the bouncy little half step business of "2nd Chance"!

Love Affair
Review: Brazil's DJ Marky is one of the few D&B guys still nurturing and developing his sound. It's a delicate mix of exotic, samba-filtered melodies and stunningly beautiful drum arrangements. The title track is exactly what we like to see: shuffling drums, esoteric melodies and suave lyrics. On the flip, "Love Affair" is similarly enchanting and Marky once-again proves everyone wrong by doing what he loves best. TIP!

DJ Patife - "Overjoyed" (feat Cleveland Watkiss - Makoto remix)
Redeyes - "What You Gave Up"
Review: DJ Patife is staking his claim on the summer with an eclectic and soulfully inspired track. DJ Patife carries on his relentless attack on the dance music scene with his latest single release from his new album "Na Estrada" entitled "Overjoyed". The original album version features sweet, soulful lyrics from Cleveland Watkiss and has that inevitable summer lament that only DJ Patife can provide. Makoto's remix aims intently to keep the original focus of the track with many of the same riffs and vocals being used in a more predominantly and traditionally D'n'B orientated manner. "Overjoyed" is just one of the myriad of spectacular tracks on his debut studio album "Na Estrada", where classic guitar riffs and melodic harmonies are the order of the day and, when put together just so, the result is spectacular.

Vibes From The Tribes
Review: A couple of nice, restrained drum and bass numbers here from Switch. "It's Your Life" has a cool jazzy feel to it, with some shimmering vocals making a tune that wouldn't have sounded out of place on Marky's Brazilian Job compilation of yesteryear. On the flip, "Vibes From The Tribes" is a bit darker, with just a hint of menace to the bassline.

T I - "Freak"
Dominator & T I - "Dark Age"
Review: Here's a quick drum & bass fact for you; DJ Marky can smell a good tune being made over 100 miles away. Seriously; he's spent years training his olfactory system and it pays on every Innerground release. Here we have two relatively new D&B faces, both unleashing two thoroughbred rollers as if they'd been producing since the days of AWOL. T>I's "Freaks" skips on a sharp two-steppy rhythm, complete with breathy vocals and that elasticated bass that the likes of Alex Reece was so fond of. Meanwhile Dominator ups the grunt factor with the aptly titled "Dark Age". Coming across like an old Full Cycle joint, this rolls with true funk and menace. Get your freak on.

Review: XRS and Marky's Innerground imprint has long been a reliable source of summery drum and bass. Here, the duo collates some of the label's best output to date across two discs (one unmixed, the other mixed). Although the mix is impressive, it's the first, unmixed disc that really stands out. As you'd expect, there's plenty of soulful shufflers, where the musical goodness is only matched by the energy of the skittering junglist rhythms. Of the plentiful highlights, check Random Movement's sun-flecked "Down Somehow", Marky's delicious "A Disco Funk Organization", Submorphics soaring, string-laden "Summer Soul" and T>I's sub-heavy roller "2nd Chance".

Review: Big up to Innerground Music for hitting then so insignificant milestone of 100 releases. To celebrate they serve up a bumper bounty of drum & bass brilliance across two slabs of wax. South American legend DJ Marky opens with a nice silky roller and a soulful vocal that will immediately get the good times going. Data 3's 'String Theory' is a more minimal and stripped-back stepper and then it's all-out good time celebrations with the kinetic 'Patty Melt' from Random Movement. Elsewhere Carlito's 'About You' is a nice shadowy viber with hunting keys and Fluidity & Loz Contreras combine to great effect on 'Back To You.'

Collette Warren & Calibre - "Broken Glass" (5:39)
Collettte Warren, Quadrant & Iris - "Betrayal" (6:23)
Review: One of drum & bass's most in demand and distinctive singers Collette Warren gets her first artist EP on Marky's Innerground and she's rolling deep. Marky provides an Intalex style hurricane for Warren and current golden soul man Tyler Daley to duet on, while Random Movement gets his little jittery clipped funk flare on that complements Warren's jazzy signature perfectly. Halfway in, Calibre turbo charges up the amen and organ machine for one of the strongest cuts of the set before Seattle's Quadrant & Iris cook up a rolling pacer for the most energetic, insistent cut on the 12". Four unique designs, one singular voice. We hope an album drops in the future.
