Review: Calibre on Marky's Innerground - do we need to say any more? Once again the Belfast auteur sends us dizzy with his broad strokes across the D&B spectrum. "Typical Things" plunges us into his darker dancefloor side, similar to that of his killer "4AM" EP on 31, with a pulsating bass warp and stripped back architecture while "Simple Sa" dusts off the steel string for more of a sunset lullaby loaded with his own gilded dulcets. A match made in heaven.

Review: Stoking the flames on the a-side is "Seven Stars". A short intro leads to a ghostly piano riff laced with latent female vocals. Once past the break a wave of bass and percussion rises to envelop the eardrums with a sense of impending doom. The track continues to bob and weave with undulating rhythm throughout and shows a true affinity with the Innerground temperament and style. For the flip we have "Velvet", an altogether more subtle and natural track. Simplicity is the key here and the achievement of such an earthy bass tone cannot be underestimated. The bass oscillates beautifully around a plain and true beat which ticks all the boxes for those late nights. This is guaranteed to keep bodies moving. Heavy DJ support from Zinc, LTJ Bukem, DJ Marky, Bryan Gee, Fabio, Grooverider, Laurent Garnier, Gilles Peterson, Friction and Roni Size.

Review: Brazil's DJ Marky is one of the few D&B guys still nurturing and developing his sound. It's a delicate mix of exotic, samba-filtered melodies and stunningly beautiful drum arrangements. The title track is exactly what we like to see: shuffling drums, esoteric melodies and suave lyrics. On the flip, "Love Affair" is similarly enchanting and Marky once-again proves everyone wrong by doing what he loves best. TIP!

Review: DJ Patife is staking his claim on the summer with an eclectic and soulfully inspired track. DJ Patife carries on his relentless attack on the dance music scene with his latest single release from his new album "Na Estrada" entitled "Overjoyed". The original album version features sweet, soulful lyrics from Cleveland Watkiss and has that inevitable summer lament that only DJ Patife can provide. Makoto's remix aims intently to keep the original focus of the track with many of the same riffs and vocals being used in a more predominantly and traditionally D'n'B orientated manner. "Overjoyed" is just one of the myriad of spectacular tracks on his debut studio album "Na Estrada", where classic guitar riffs and melodic harmonies are the order of the day and, when put together just so, the result is spectacular.
