Review:  Another highly anticipated reissue from the vaults of the legendary 70s label TSG here that has already been put out late last year by P-Vine Japan. But Reality's unknown classic Disco Party is always going to sell out quick so we're certainly happy about another pressing. Almost nothing is known about the band apart from their association with TSG, the label had a divine touch in picking out the best unknown musicians from New York's bustling funk and soul scene. Their music is full of vibrant riffs and funky bass and cannot fail to detonate in the club.

Review: Declared 'holy grail' level soul by one particular collector on Discogs, The Topics' second album is the epitome of US soul in the late 70s, post the epic Motown explosion. With emphatic vocals, tight grooves and lavish production, the album embraces both the classic and more modern styles of funk and soul. From the widescreen dreaminess, twinkles and very soft disco ripples of "Choice Of A Million Girls" to the rich gospel intro and soaring falsettos of "Inflation" via the big slap bass mischief of "Man", just one blast on this and you'll understand why it's been sought after for so long. Essential.

In the case of Jazzman's DJ Fryer, it's a way of life. Examine exhibit one, this beautifully curated collection of obscure dancefloor soul, boogie and lost disco. It took him an astonishing four years to gather together, license and re-master the 21 tracks that make up Soul Spectrum Volume 1. You can tell, too. Pushing a loose, effortlessly soulful flex, the selections will come as a thrilling surprise to all but the most obsessive diggers. From the jaunty horns of Philip Wright's "Keep Her Happy" (as re-edited by Ashley Beedle), to the heavy funk pressure of Zebra's "Simple Song", Fryer's selections are deliciously on-point.
