Review: If some creative soul out there has come up with a better name for a record label than Kristofferson Kristofferson, we've yet to hear it. The German label returns here with a delicious yellow seven inch featuring two tracks from label boss Rising Sun aka Steffen Laschinski. A spoken word vocal sample dominates on A-Side cut "Message" (Remind edit), with the sparse drum arrangement and gorgeous bass tones lilting gently beneath the surface. On the flip "Underground Yeah!" is matches its predecessor in the smooth stakes, with a twirling synth line providing a neat melodic twist.

Review: Berlin's Steffen Laschinski aka Rising Sun is back on his own Kristofferson Kristofferson imprint, and the fiery deep house producer returns with two explorative cuts that will surely resonate with fans of Shed and his High Power sound. "Yours" is filled with slamming breaks from start to finish and, although this is categorised as house music, we prefer to think of it as effective breakbeat for the DJ wanting to deviate a little from the 4/4 norm. On the B-side, "Importance (Essay)" takes all our attention thanks to its bass-less percussive form; what we love about the tune is its freedom of movement and total neglect for anything tool-related. Recommended and tipped! Don't sleep and wake up to find this going for triple on Discogs in a year or so...

Highly limited, heavyweight vinyl and loaded with new versions and mixes, Retrospective boasts some of his most touching moments: the trembling, naked fluctuations of "Underground, Yeah", the warm waves and hushed humanisation of "In My Heart Of Hearts", the dynamic chugs and classical string whitecaps of "Lift Up Your Faces", the rolling breaks of "Yours". With a soulful, almost hymn-like quality to his compositions throughout, Rising Sun once again reminds us of the importance of longevity and subtlety.
