Take The Shock Away (Pete Herbert version) (5:56)
Review: La dame Noir is a Marseille-based label who first crept onto vinyl with a crucial various artists release back in 2016. Now they're back with more of that noirish modern disco deviance that made them an exciting proposition first time around. "Take The Shock Away" is a bittersweet groover by Dawad and label co-founder Relatif Yann, with pitch-perfect vocals by Mounissa which sounds strong on its own. The label however has drafted in a list of big hitters to deliver remixes, from Vox Low's synthwave laced trip to Pete Herbert's punchy electro-disco burner. Whichever version you plump for, the quality is undeniable on this surefooted 12".

Darkness Has Never Been So Bright
Cat: DARKSLICE 001. Rel: 07 Nov 16

Disco/Nu-Disco
Over To You (Pete Herbert version) (5:57)
Timide Comme Un Ange (Pete Herbert version) (6:52)
Timide Comme Un Ange (DJ Steef version) (4:15)
Over To You (DJ Steef & Relatif Yann edit) (5:26)
Review: La Dame Noir is one of Marseille's most reliable outposts for serious disco-flavoured grooves both in the club and as a label, and now they make the leap to vinyl with a crucial collection of remixes from serious heads. Pete Herbert steps up first to rework M.U.S.I.Q.U.E's "Over To You", turning the original into a simmering, noirish burner with speak and spell vox in the foreground. Meanwhile Herbert's take on Nouveau Rom's "Timide Comme Un Ange" is a looped-up dream of a groove that positively takes off when the peak section kicks in. DJ Steef then echoes the remix choices on the B-side, subtly edging the Nouveau Rom track into an even airier version before creating an emotional twist on "Over To You".
