Review: Having stepped back from the Phantom Island label he helped establish, Alex Storrer returns with his first album as Lexx in four years. In keeping with his Balearic roots, Home Away From Home is a genuinely gorgeous, sun-kissed affair that prioritises mood and melody. Rich in evocative field recordings, organic instrumentation, widescreen electronics and yearning instrumental flourishes, it plays like an album to be listened to - preferably horizontally - from start to finish. Highlights are plentiful, from the gentle acoustic guitars and languid jazz guitar solos of 'Here & Now' and the twinkling, slow-motion beauty of 'Pure Love', to the Johnny Nash-esque warmth of 'Ultramarine', the dubby neo-Balearic shuffle of 'Rising Tide' and the saucer-eyed ambient lusciousness of 'Leap of Faith'.

1994
1994 (hand-stamped 7")
Cat: LXMZK 07. Rel: 28 Mar 23

Hip Hop/R&B
1994 (2:43)
Pl'ayers (2:53)
Review: '1994/Pl'ayers' is the new one from Lexx under his LX72 guise, printed on his very own Swiss imprint of the same name. A retro-futurist take on instrumental hip-hop, this is a personal release that pays homage to a crucial time in the producer's life. The A-side track, '1994', moves at a slow and relaxed place, meandering through breezy sax solos and spacious synths. On the B-side, 'Pl'ayers' picks up the pace, skipping through a shimmering melody composed of organic percussion, blurred vocals and electric guitar samples. This is sunlight in music form - a fantastic release from Lexx's LX72 project.

Deep House
Lunatic Dolphin (Lauer remix) (6:22)
State Of Resilience (Gerd Janson 808 remix) (5:19)
Review: Fresh from the release of his fine album of vintage deep house and Detroit beatdown sounds as LX72, New Affinity, Alex Storrer AKA Lexx offers up some club-focused reworks of recent cuts courtesy of pals Phillip Lauer and Gerd Janson. Lauer steps up first and - true to form - manages to deliver something that's more colourful and rushing than you'd think was possible. His version of 'Lunatic Dolphin' sparkles from start to finish, with colourful synthesizer flourishes and White Isle-friendly piano stabs rising above a tooled up, Chicago house style groove. Janson takes a totally different approach on his '808 Remix' of 'State of Resilience', re-inventing the drowsy deep house cut and a dreamy and otherworldly chunk of bubbly (and decidedly weighty) club electro.
