  1. Second Freeze (6:04)
  2. Simple As (5:43)
Review: Speak to anyone on the Bristol scene, and they'll happily tell you that Jacob Martin AKA Hodge is willing to open his studio doors to almost any like-minded soul. His latest collaborator is the similarly productive Randomer, fresh from inspired outings on Clone Basement Series and Dekmantel UFO Series. There's a real energy about A-side "Second Freeze", which slowly builds on waves of punchy, polyrhythmic percussion and creepy noises, before bringing in a similarly bold and speaker-hugging bassline. The talented duo goes ever further in this African-influenced direction of thrillingly percussive flipside "Simple As", where additional drum hits pepper a dense, polyrhythmic groove. It's one of the best drum records we've heard this year, and that's saying something.

  1. E-ache (4:57)
  2. Aces (5:10)
  3. Negative Extasy (4:28)
  4. Suomi (6:19)
Review: Man Band mandem Toma Kami returns to Livity with more sharp tools and insanity, this time in the form of "Negative Extasy". Each cut primed with big roomy broken beats, each cut more beguiling and trippier than the last, each cut rising in intensity; "E-Ache" warms us up with soothing harmonic stabs over a cavernous beat, "Aces" spins us round the stars with housey chords and pretty percussive vapour trails while "Suomi" is nothing short of a 24th century funeral march. For most the title track will be the highlight; more upbeat and bumping, with fat layers of percussion, it's Toma in pure peaktime mode... And everyone's invited.

  1. Sharper (3:37)
  2. 2020 Vision (4:54)
  3. The Beast Of Bolsover (4:04)
  4. Ice (5:43)
Review: Following a string of remarkable cuts on labels such as Roska Kicks & Snares and his own Le Chatroom imprint, rising basssmith Kouslin lands on the ever-consistent and forward-fronting Livity Sound. Stirring a heavy brew of UK funky, breaks, garage, beats, bass, techno and every other flavour in between, yet boiling everything down to simple and punchy ingredients, expect soca bashy bliss on "Sharper", visceral body shaking tribalism on "2020 Vision", deep steppy garage soul on "The Beast Of Bolsover" and the hopeful, tropical finale tones of "Ice". See things clearly.

  1. Igam-Ogam (5:41)
  2. First Image (6:04)
  3. Seeker (5:34)
Review: Given his long-running friendship with key members of Bristol's vibrant - and distinctive - techno community, it's something of a surprise to find that this marks Leif Knowles' first appearance of Peverelist's Livity Sound imprint. Happily, we can confirm that it was worth the wait. The genius of the EP lies in the unique combination of the long-serving producer's inventive, African-influenced rhythms and deep, rich and life-affirming musical flourishes. Both A-side "Igam-Ogam" and B-side opener "First Image" boast intricately programmed (and impressively layered) drums, as well as either drowsy deep house chords or ear-catching melodic loops. Then there's closing cut "Seeker", which sounds like his take on late 1970s Tangerine Dream.

  9. Plateau (2:29)
Review: Stop the press! Peverelist is back in the game. This is a special announcement for various reasons; first and foremost, the mythical Bristolian hasn't been all too active on out charts as of late, and he most certainly hasn't turned in an album for quite some time. Back on his own Livity Sound stable, the artist's new album, Tessellations, sees the man take a different route to his previous excursions, one that's much more focused on deep tribalism and percussion. The first four segments, from "Burning Sea" to "Sheer Chance Matters" all approach the equation through slightly different lenses; the first two being grounded in ambience of polyrhythmic movement, while the following two mould into a subtle 4/4 flow, but the same ambience is present throughout. This is the same for "Wireframes" all the way to "Plateau", where Peverelist has shaped a new sort of minimalism into his rolling punch of tech-minded bass. Could this be the start of something new? We definitely think so...

Experimental/Electronic
  1. Noise Water (4:08)
  2. Away From The Reign (6:20)
  3. Which Way Is Up (4:31)
Review: Livity Sound's acclaimed 'Reverse' series returns with something rather special from a new name, debutant producer Ido Plumes. The label hasn't said much about the artist, but the three tracks here suggest that he or she could be a name to watch in the months and years ahead. For proof, first check the bubbly, undulating creepiness of A-side "Noise Water", where alien-sounding electronic motifs, creepy noises and mind-altering aural textures flutter around a dub-wise bassline and bustling, off-kilter groove, before admiring the sub-heavy snappiness and post-dubstep dancefloor weight of "Away From The Reign". Arguably best of all though is closing cut "Which Way Is Up", a kind of mutant future garage excursion that defies easy categorization.
