Extassy

Minimal/Tech House
Extassy (9:49)
In A Distorted Galaxy (8:07)
Review: Frenchman Sebastien Leger is something of a musical drama. He makes escapist sounds with lovely captivating melodies designed to get you to disconnect from the often harsh reality of life and connect with the here and now. Stepping away from his own label he now turns up on Lost & Found with two more such well-designed and mature tracks. 'Extassy' is awash with glorious pads and shimmering synth lines over airy, suggestive drums. Flip-side tune 'In A Distorted Galaxy' has more weighted drums and rubbery baselines, but still the sort of keys that are dimly lit and twinkle in the darkness.

Last Standing (10:45)
Fire (10:51)
Review: Melodic progressive house is lended an extra twinkly resonance on this new one from Guy J, topping up his myriad releases for Lost & Found Records. 'Fire' blends stuttering stab arpeggios with rainsoaked harmonics and risers, while 'Last Standing' builds to similar elysiums, sounding like the lovechild of Four Tet and Avatar in its triplet-trance, woodblock-snared peaks.

State Of Trance (8:29)
Anonymous (7:26)
Review: Tel Aviv-born producer and DJ Guy J returns with two key pieces, State Of Trance and Anonymous, for Lost & Found. Paying direct homage to the hypnotic oeuvre of early trance classics, both tracks here lay down a sweet, burgeoning mood of entrainment - the breakdown on the A-side removes the kick drum halfway, locking in a rhythmic nerviness that many trance artists would be afraid of indulging. Meanwhile, the B-sider mires arpy rapture in loud textures of wind and thunder, dropping out most of its elements into a ghostly, gargantuan haze before dropping them back into a minimal, gobby drop.

The Lost Remixes

Deep House
Volen Sentir - "The Great Escape" (Cornucopia remix) (7:58)
Kasper Koman - "Loco Motif" (Tantum remix) (7:32)
Review: As the title suggests, The Lost Remixes boasts a pair of previously unheard reworks from the vaults of Guy J's Bedrock-aligned Lost & Found label. On side A, Guy J dons his occasional Cornucopia alias to rework Volen Sentir's 2020 gem 'The Great Escape'. He opts for a deliciously delicate, dreamy, fluid and mood-enhancing revision that wraps gentle TB-303 acid lines and classic, late '90s-style progressive house aural textures (ambient pads, drifting chords, bubbly electronics and eyes-closed female vocal snippets) around a smooth, shuffling house groove. Thomas Koch aka Tantum takes over on the flip to deliver a revision of Kasper Koman's 2018 cut 'Loco Motif' that's as hypnotic, melodic, tactile and sonically beautiful as they come.
