Review: REPRESS ALERT: Exzakt continues to forge one of the purest totems of classic electro with his Monotone label, and indeed his own output. The latest release is a various artists EP which perfectly sums up everything Monotone is about. The Advent leads the way with the dark, melodic "Eye's Of Envy," produced alongside Zein, before Exzakt himself drops a taut and wiry dancefloor bomb in the shape of "Kreep." 214 fires up the B side with the edgy, minimalist thrust of "Crouch & Turn," before EggFooYoung makes a surprise return to the fray with the more Miami-flavoured stylings of "Bass2Large," a slower, dirtier jam with low end frequencies to get the whole club freaking.

Review: Dynamik Bass System with the latest 12 from the Monotone label. Four solid tracks of electro goodness here from DBM, with a definite nod given to the Miami Booty bass scene, as deep rumbling sub-bass, crisp, rolling breaks, vocoder vocals, and percolating analog elements all helping the main floor crowds move.

Dynamix II has been sampled more times than they can count and their name precedes them. This 12' is not resting on their name and reputation alone. Review: Larry McCormick's Exzakt alias strides into its 20th year of operations with ever more urgency, as the recently reanimated Monotone label continues to mark out the important place he holds in the global electro scene. In terms of original productions, "Madrid Nights" opens the record up with a tight, whip-cracking peak time joint executed in the deadly Exzakt style. "Me & My 808" takes things in a darker, almost gothic direction, and "Love Hate" keeps the pressure up with a style that borders on breaks. Meanwhile 214 drops some serious heat on his remix of "Escape", a crafty, many-sided die that wins whichever side you land on.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Larry McCormick's Monotone label is one of the finest outposts for darkside electro operating in these bountiful times for the genre, and following on from the first volume of vinyl-only compilation MonoTrax, brace yourselves for round two. The Hacker is at his stalking, sinister best on "Rhythmus Machine," while McCormick himself brings a tough, street-level grittiness to "Root Code." Cosmic Force is on a dystopian sci fi tip with the nagging synth patterns of "Maximilian Of Roma", and DeFeKT completes the package with the audacious synth acrobatics and jackhammer beats of "I Am Here." What more do you need to know? This is high-end electro business for down and dirty, sweat-box dancefloors.

Review: Larry McCormick has been doing his thing for a long time under different aliases and in multiple groups, but these days he's focusing on his own name and following a strong turn on Shipwrec last year he's emerged on US label Monotone with a mini LP stuffed to the gills with razor sharp electro. "Show The Way" is driving, dynamic and devilishly noirish, like all good electro should be. "One Step Ahead" is a lighter affair with bold lead lines that cut through any mix, while "Move Because I Said So" experiments with jagged rhythm variations for the adventurous DJ to get creative with. "Creator" is a shimmering melodic workout, while "Eyes On Me" sports melancholic overtones before "Magic City" rounds the record off on a harsher tone for the edgier dancefloor.

Review: Four super solid tracks of electro madness. Imatran Voima re-introduces two of their biggest cuts with "In Out" and "Techno Slut". Re-mastered then re-mixed, these four tracks leave nothing to be desired except listening and spinning them again. On the a-side sits the two original masterpieces with a new level of quality known from the Monotone Brand. On the b-side we find the first cut remixed by Jackal (of Jackal & Hyde). The inside cut is the slam-dunk on this release. Exzakt and Dynamik Bass System team up. Two thumbs up.
