Unfold (7:16)
Tides (5:47)
Review: Casino Times is a London-based project of producers Joseph Spencer & Nicholas Church; a partnership that is rooted in house & techno since 2010. The duo have released on labels like Wolf Music, Mireia and their own Casino Edits. This one's courtesy of Swdens Omena imprint, the new label run by Tooli of Local Talk fame. A Change In Motion Part 2 sees the pair enter a new phase sonically, experimenting with the more experimental side of the spectrum. There's some punchy and futuristic electro to be heard on 'Ultra Synthetic' and 'Unfold', as well as sublime downbeat offerings like 'Tides' and 'Run Mods' and some swung-off kilter beats offered up on 'Something Else' (feat DUANE).

This Is My Channel (6:08)
Display End Sequence (7:09)
Review: Joseph Spencer and Nicholas Church return from the table with another superb Casino Times session. Riffing off last year's "Decoded" EP, "Recoded" follows suit with more cosmic introspection. "Voices" is a springy upbeat thumper with just a touch of Detroit to its soul and enough vitality to have you shuffling around the finest carpet joints on the strip. Elsewhere "Sambra Heat" cashes in the deepest chips with rich Balearic palpitations while the electroid "This Is My Channel" puts everything on red then breakdances off without glancing to see if its won. Finally "Display End Sequence" hits the jackpot with a funky, almost tribal fusion. Feeling lucky?

Review: Given the hype surrounding HNNY over the last few years - fuelled, primarily, by a string of celebrated singles on Puss, Local Talk, Let's Play House and YUMMY - it's somewhat surprising that Sunday marks his first foray into the album market. Wisely, the Swedish artist embraced the opportunity for eclecticism that the format provides, filling his debut full-length with a mix of tracks variously designed for sofa-bound listening and dancing in clubs. There's a jazz-flecked beauty to the crackly downtempo grooves offered up by the title track, while the dreamy, guitar-laced head-nodder "Sylvia" recalls the best of his Balearic-influenced work. It's these luscious moments, such as the twinkling ambience of closer "My Baby", that really resonate.

Cheer Up My Brother (4:56)
There Is No One Else (3:02)
Review: Stockholm label Omena raise a glass to celebrate one year of business with this special RSD 7" from the ubiquitous HNNY. Johan Cederberg was responsible for the label's debut release so it seems quite fitting he's back with more sweet HNNY business to usher in the second year of Omena. Up top, "Cheer Up My Brother" finds HNNY in laid back form, adding some subtle downbeat funk touches to the lazy afternoon groove of "Farther Along", transforming the gospel staple into an essential summer sizzler. It's complemented well by the B-side track "There Is No One Else" which ups both the tempo and temperature into something of a French Touch stunner.

Review: Few other producers seem to be able to match HNNY when it comes to reworking old, pop, dub or unknown selections with such confidence right now. The Swedish producer's latest willing outlet is Omena, the fledgling label set up by Local Talk artist Tooli and features just the one track in "Always" which finds HNNY in particularly silky form. "Always" has looped vocals, travelling filters and organic sounding percussion - underpinned by big beats and bass - that makes it as good as anything the Studio Barnhus crew could throw down.

It's A Spiritual Thing (5:40)
Ancestors Call (5:57)
Angel Flutes (6:00)
Journey To The Middle East (6:09)
Review: Nicola Loporchio aka Nico Lahs is an uber-reliable name when it comes to quality house music. He has a roaming style that can go from deep to jacked up to jazz with equal style and for that reason, he has landed on top labels like Moods & Grooves and Ovum. This one on 'Omena' kicks off with 'It's A Spiritual Thing', a super cuddly and deep roller with nice loose percussion giving it a mystic tribal feel. 'Ancestors Call' has a similarly heady and ritualistic feel as you're sunk deep into vast kick drums and balmy pads. That spine-tinging vibe carries over onto the flip: 'Angel Flutes' is another late-night lullaby with far-sighted chords and 'Journey To The Middle East' picks up the pace but is still an artful slice of deep house.

Daybreak (12 Inch - Henry Rodrick mix) (7:16)
Daybreak (Spring In Enskedel - Tooli remix) (5:16)
Daybreak (Drum Spirit - Mark Seven remix) (9:49)
Review: Much like Omena's name, which stands for 'apple' in Finnish, the imprint's music is fresh, diverse and full of texture. While they've pushed much of HNNY's output over the last year, they have also given a chance to new artists on the block such as their latest signing, Henry Rodrick. The dude has only put out one previous EP on Studio Barnhus thus far - a juke-filtered beat flex - but we're already feeling his cuts. On here, he's in of a more deep house mode, bringing through his own remix of "Daybreak" on the A-side, a mystical house chugger, together with Tooli's more instrumented remix - a jazzy, piano led piece. The B-side marks Mark Seven's remix of the same tune, a Balearic sort of reinterpretation with a dash of steel pan. Lovely.

Review: Ceramics is the second album by Saine on Omena Records, which reflects the Finnish personal journey as an artist and a human being, and expresses his feelings and thoughts through music. It showcases his versatile and emotive style, blending house, electronica and downtempo influences. Highlights include the title track 'Ceramics' opens the album with a warm and organic sound, featuring lush pads, piano chords and subtle percussion, while 'Etude' is a beatless interlude with a mesmerizing arpeggio motif and ambient textures. Elsewhere, 'Hardships' is a melancholic and introspective number, with a moody piano chord progression, deep bass and vocal samples. and the ethereal deep house groove of 'First Snow' is as understated as you like it.

Review: Hot on the heels of Seb Wildblood's tropical album Wet Summer, Swedish imprint Omena call upon Finland's Saine for his next album. Taking off where Lifelike left us, it's another patchwork of abstract grooves and experiments where you really have no idea what's around the corner. One moment we're shuffling to the lo-fi shuffles and wobbly soul of "Hijack", the next we're snaking and sneaking around the dancefloor in a massive unbreakable conga to "Drums Please", the next we're lounging around with our trousers down to "Higher". Yeah, it's that type of album. But if you know Saine's previous work, you'll already know this.

Review: Anton ScruScru Bogomolov is a mega hyped artist but for good reason. His slew of singles have all been noteworthy and now this new 12" overflows with more brilliant ideas. After a hugely prolific 2020 he shows no signs of slowing down here. Once again he fuses classic jazz-funk style with fresh London broken beat and wall that is good about the current jazz scene. Blurring boundaries as he goes this could be as good in a live setting as it could through a big sound system in a club. Big chords, bristling drumming, disco energy, it's all here and then some.

Review: The 30th EP on Omena is suitably special for such an occasion. The label bring in Twovi aka Vito Loperfido to the family, and he is someone who has been putting out interesting house since debuting on Bosconi in 2017, with follow ups on the legendary Inner Balance label overseen by Chicago great Chez Damier. The Italian native continues to innovate here with a house sound that is deep yet dynamic, melodic and dreamy. His drums are loose and funky, the sax lines bring some jazz tinges and a remix from Contours adds another dimension to what is a classy house EP.

Wet Summer (Kornel Kovacs remix) (5:50)
Interlude (DK remix) (5:21)
Review: When it comes to picking remixers, the Omena crew is on the money. Certainly, we can't think of a stronger selection of left-of-centre deep house producers than the crew they've assembled to remix tracks from Seb Wildblood's album The One With The Emoticon. It's arguably Telephones who steals the show via an 11-minute revision of "Wet Plants" that's high on dreamy melodic touches, eyes-closed electronics, warm bass and heavy, densely layered percussion, though Kornel Kovacs' deeper, dustier and more left-of-centre house rub of "Wet Summer" is equally as potent when it comes to club rotations. Horizontal, head-in-the-clouds thrills come via the Yu Su and D.K remixes, with the latter's blissful and drifting take on "Interlude" sounding like a long-lost, 1980s new age ambient treat. In a word: essential.

Review: When assessing the work of any musician or producer, it's important to look for signs of artistic development. Happily, there are plenty on this latest full-length collection of cuts by Church chief (and fast rising producer) Seb Wildblood. Musically, it's far more expansive, considered and varied than some of his previous work, moving from gently sun-kissed, sax-laden deep house warmth (":~^") and Ron Trent style smoothness ("Plants"), to fireside-hot dream house loveliness ("Mmm"), via the languid downtempo headiness of 'Deptford Synths|. Throughout, there's a greater emphasis on organic, live-sounding percussion, pleasingly colourful synths, and the kind of drowsy chord progressions that some would describe as "Balearic" in tone.

Review: Manchester-based DJ/producer Yadava hasn't been releasing music all that long, but what he has put out has been superb. Here he makes his first appearance on Omena with a mini-album every bit as inspired as his 2018 debut album on Church, "It Rains Here". As with previous outings, the showcased tracks are imaginative and evocative, with Yadava blending dreamy electronics and jazzy instrumentation with grooves that variously doff a cap to dusty deep house, West African and South American rhythms, jazz-funk and broken beat. Highlights are plentiful throughout, with the richly percussive "Earth Tones", bustling "Message From Poets", jazzy "Ixelles '42" and super-sweet "Good Mourning" standing out.
