Jazz
  1. Love Is In Town (edit) (5:03)
  2. Hard Swing Travellin' Man (4:58)
Review: Brenda Boykin is a renowned American jazz vocalist was a super warm, deep, inviting sound. She is the latest to serve up her wares on One World Records with two super strong sides of soul tinged jazz on this essential 7" slice of goodness. 'Love Is In Town' has it all - lush sax solo, rolling rhythm sections, horn stabs and loose percussion, all finished with that special voice. On the flip is the more funky 'Hard Swing Travellin' Man' with electric guitar riffs and steamy Rhodes chords bringing a gospel feel next to more great brass and wind sounds. These are cuts that manage to make you feel all the feels while also encouraging you to dance.

  1. Good Good Good (3:11)
  2. Good Good Good (instrumental) (3:10)
Review: Michelle David's first UK single 'Yes I Am' was a huge soul hit for the One World Records label back in January. Now she follows it up with another superb single that is so good they named it thrice. 'Good Good Good' is a high speed soul banger with Northern Soul elegance swirling around a tight rhythm section and 60s motifs. The vocal is skill controlled despite the heights it reaches and speed it comes at. Craig Charles has already been dropping this one, and for those who prefer it more straight up, the flip side has an instrumental version.

  2. Yes I Am (instrumental) (3:57)
Review: Over the last five years, few contemporary soul artists have more successfully blurred the boundaries between '60s soul, vintage funk and gospel than Michelle David and regular backing band Gospel Sessions (a studio outfit helmed by her producers and collaborators Onno Smit and Paul Williamson. 'Yes I Am', David's first single of 2021, continues where her previous work left off. It sees her delivering a soulful, super-sweet lead vocal atop a wonderfully retro-sounding soul backing track that reminded us of the similarly inclined work of Durand Jones & The Indications and Timmion Records stalwarts Cold Diamond & Mink. The A-side full vocal take is our pick of the pair, though the accompanying instrumental is also predictably good.

  1. You & Me (radio edit) (4:23)
  2. Magic (4:51)
Review: Sean Oliver's club soul favourite 'You And Me' gets a new release here having been a sleeper hit since 1997. It came back then on Sean's Solitaire album as well as on a 12" maxi, but has been hard to find since. The great production comes from Boomtang Boys and the tune has already been getting lots of plays. The lazy grooves, gentle bongos and soothing chords sound like a UK version of neo-soul don Maxwell, with 'You & Me' really hitting a perfect soul sweet spot. Things pick u pa little for 'Magic' which is a mid-tempo soulful house roller with big clicks, drums and vocals.
