Techno
Night D3 Died (6:24)
Make Your Own Sunshine (6:09)
Serpentine Tale (6:02)
The Introducer (8:10)
Review: Although rarely spoken about in hushed tones, Peter Adshead AKA Baby Ford is one of British house and techno's true pioneers. As many readers will know, he spent the first decade of his career exploring acid house and rave, before switching to a deeper and more minimalistic techno and tech-house sound towards the end of the '90s. It's in that period that BFORD14, which is finally being reissued, first appeared in stores. Intoxicating, bass-heavy and entrancing, the EP's many highlights include the hissing hypnotism of 'Serpentine Tale', the deep bass, melancholic synthesiser chords and crunchy drums of 'Night D3 Died', and the spacey, deep techno warmth of deliciously hazy closing cut 'The Introducer'.

Techno
Slowhand (10:21)
Tall For His Height (5:17)
Kez (7:15)
Review: Seminal reissue alert! Baby Ford had already been a chart-baiting acid house superstar by the time he launched the PAL SL label in 1996. He'd left behind the major label scene and moved firmly back into the underground with exploratory techno releases on Ifach and collaborations with Mark Broom. This new label marked a shift for Ford though, setting him up for the trips into minimalist club tracks that have been his bread and butter for decades now. From the machine soul trysts of "Slow Hand" to the woozy techno thrust of "Tall For His Height" and the atmospheric house wriggle of "Kez", this release is a classic through and through. Beat the sharks and nab a copy of this long out-of-print gem.

Percy (5:45)
Review: A repress for four prime slices of classic Baby Ford minimal tech gear, from the rhythm-centric drum machine fest 'Very', the resonant bleepy tones of 'Test', the sparse and spacious 'Down' and the subtle acid undertones of 'Percy'. Baby Ford is finally getting his props as one the UK acid and techno scene's true innovators and pioneers, and these four very mixable tracks are four more reasons why this is only right.

Review: It's always a treat to spot Edward donning his Desert Sky guise for another trip into the hinterland of minimal techno, where expression reigns free and all kinds of sound sources tumble into a truly exotic mix. On this album for PAL SL, all bets are off as we get whisked down a mysterious and meandering path where organic and electronic matter merge in the shadows, all strapped to subliminal but pronounced grooves that make this some of the most potent, intriguing club material in circulation right now. Buy the ticket, take the ride and dance out under that Desert Sky.

Iso Grifo
Lava
Round
Review: In the field of minimal house reissues, this is a big deal. Perlon main man Dimbiman doesn't appear on wax often, but when he does he makes it count. This early release on Baby Ford's seminal Pal SL was originally out in 1998, when minimal house was a vague concept at best on the most outer reaches of dance music. "Iso Grifo" itself remains a masterclass of spine-chilling space and perfectly strange sonic matter, while "Lava" pushes the notion of reduction dance music to its absolute limit. "Round" is an even more immersive affair that hides many subtle layers within its seemingly simple construct. Quite simply groundbreaking stuff, and highly sought after so don't sleep on it.

Simple
Give Credit
Review: Pal SL returns with another highly playable yet artist orientated 12" from L.D.Nero (aka Alex Cortex) who returns to the label after a nine year hiatus. His fantastically received Nite Out 12" for sister label Trelik showcased the more subtle depths of his production style whereas "Washback" grabs the bull buy the horns with an infectious analogue bassline, bold upfront percussion patterns alongside Perlon-esque guitars and organic synth washes. "Simple" picks up the pace with a more mathematical soundscape, driving the speakers whilst teasing with intermittent vocals. "Give Credit" completes the package tipping its hat to the early UK acid sound showcasing retro sound design, lo-fi vocals and historic drum loops against a deep synth and bass back-drop. Mastered By Lopazz.

Bombay Bedbath
Interlude Intuitive
Out Of Key In
Review: Och pops up on Baby Ford's PAL SL imprint after a solid debut on Autoreply's offshoot Stuga Musik. Although the producer behind the Och pseudonym remains mysterious for now, his early productions have garnered support from such esteemed figures as Ame, Norman Nodge, Gerd Janson, DJ Sneak and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, and this latest 12" is, in our humble opinions, Och's best yet. The standout track here hogs the entirety of the A Side, with "Bombay Bedbath" characterised by some beefy drums and a drowning, late night soul vocal which complements the rolling groove. Flip over for two wonderful B Side obscurites, namely the rich ambient textures of "Interlude Intuitive" and twinkling piano lines and moody atmospherics of "Out Of Key In". Top release.

Cross Check
Star Of Hope
The Magic Flute
Review: Following on from his 2010 "Dickens Tracks" EP
for London's PAL SL, OCH drops the eagerly awaited 2nd edition to the
series. As a producer his sound stands out through fusing stripped-back,
jackin' drums with sharp, swinging hats always adding an injection of
analog warmth through sparse, synth arrangements. A1's "Cross Check"
stays true to the labels early roots by using the bare essentials of
house music to create a hypnotic, highly effective floor-mover. On the
flip, "Star Of Hope" is an interlude, set-starter or vinyl DJ tool. B2's
"The Magic Flute" has a relaxed, sunny Chicago feeling teasing with
lush samples, driving bass and rock-solid beats. Mastered at D&M.
