Volume 1 (12")
Cat: PTP 011. Rel: 06 Jun 18
Disco/Re-Edits
  1. 123 (9:55)
  2. 456 (8:02)
  3. 789 (6:13)
Review: When it comes to crafting quality edits of ludicrously obscure cuts, few can match long-serving scalpel fiend Loud-E. Having previously plied his wares on Ambassador's Reception and Berceuse Heroique's occasional re-edit series, the Netherlands-based producer has been recruited by Leeds-based, Balearic-minded imprint Passport to Paradise. Predictably, there's much to enjoy throughout, not least the trippy backwards effects, rubbery boogie bassline, starburst electronics and locked-in drums of extended cosmic disco workout "123". Elsewhere, Loud-E chops up some chiming, glassy-eyed, instrumental Balearic synth-pop on "456", before unleashing some wild and weird electronics on the out-of-this-world madness of "789".

Disco/Re-Edits
  1. Mori Ra & ASN - "California Real" (5:44)
  2. Mori Ra & ASN - "Actual Flash" (5:10)
  3. Mori Ra - "Mermaid" (8:20)
  4. Mori Ra - "Synchroid Eye" (4:54)
Review: Osaka's champion selector and groove doyen Mori Ra makes his PTP debut with four lavish helpings of synth-splashed disco. Side A sees him teaming up with fellow Macadam Mambo mate ASN with two almost Norwegian-sounding lessons in cosmic synth funk as "California Real" is straight up boogie and "Actual Flash" fuses far-away strings and close-up synth squiggles. Meanwhile side B sees Mori go solo with two more slightly esoteric cuts: "Mermaid" is duffle-coated drama where the operatics and soothing harmonies are under the pressure of sub aquatic textures and "Synchroid Eye" takes us right down into dreamland with its swooning strings and faraway vocal cries. Bliss.

Disco/Re-Edits
  1. Fuck All Night (4:56)
  2. Passage (4:47)
  3. 1,2,3... (5:11)
  4. Venus (5:02)
Review: Passport To Paradise's latest batch of obscure but essential re-edits comes from Ric Piccolo, a DJ/producer best known for his Italo-disco inspired outings on Bordello a Parigi. There's much to set the pulse racing, not least the shirts-and-pants off, X-rated Italo sleaze of "Fuck All Night", whose explicit vocal invites us to copulate until morning over a particularly muscular, arpeggio-driven groove. Elsewhere, "Passage" is a spacey, delay-laden revision of an eccentric Italo-disco instrumental (complete with fluttering flute solos and intergalactic synth washes), "1,2,3..." is a driving South American electro-disco stomper, and "Venus" is a tasty re-arrangement of a Balearic synth-funk/jazz-funk fusion cut whose origin is, of course, shrouded in mystery.

Disco/Re-Edits
  1. Thru Wit Waitin (5:12)
  2. Anybody Out There (6:31)
  3. Mousso Mousso (4:58)
  4. JP Wave (4:41)
Review: Rock out with your frock out, Passport To Paradise's soft lads are back with four more deviant edits; "Thur Wit Waitin" takes a dusty, slightly yachty AOR piece and gives it the necessary dancefloor swing it's always been crying for. "Anybody Out There" continues the big air guitar feels with gusto before flipping the trippy switch with the strange processed vocals midway. "Mousso Mousso" is a much more sultry affair with its light Afrofunk lace and air of French finesse while "JP Wave" finishes the affair with a shimmering dub twist. Bon voyage.
