Intuitive and inspiring, the Lifeforms Touch Controller replaces the creative restrictions of a traditional chromatic keyboard with a set of fully configurable multi-dimensional touch pads. A configurable duophonic controller that utilizes two sets of five touch pads to offer a flexible and interactive performance surface. Performances can be interpreted with a unique combination of monophonic and duophonic responses. The Channel Animator functions quickly generate complex sequences. Intuitive and inspiring, the Lifeforms Touch Controller is the perfect interface for an experimental journey.

Easy to use, the interface is split into Left and Right sides. Each side offers a gate output, assignable CV A output, assignable CV B output, and touch position Y-Axis output. CV A is set using the top row of knobs and CV B uses the bottom row. A third set of outputs called "All" responds to both Left and Right sides.

The Channel Animator section controls the sequencers and modifies the functionality of the Touch Controller. Mono and Duo buttons switch between monophonic and duophonic modes. The Rest/Reset/Division button is used by the sequencers to add rest notes, reset, and change the clock division of a sequence. The Scan CV input responds to a 0-5v signal and assigns the active monophonic or duophonic channels based on the incoming voltage. Scan can be used to create various cycling arpeggiator or random sequences. The Reset gate input resets the sequencer to the first step. Step gate input advances the sequencer.

Enter Monophonic Mode by pressing the Mono button. In Monophonic mode the All output section responds to the selected channel. The Left section and the Right section respond when a channel in their section is pressed.

A single sequencer has access to all 10 channels. The sequence is performed in the order the notes are entered. Press and hold the Mono button then tap a series of channel touch pads to create a sequence. While holding down the Mono button during programming, pressing the Rest/Reset/Division button adds a rest to the sequence. Once a sequence is created, press and hold the Rest/Reset/Division button then tap a Channel Touch Pad to change the clock division left to right from #1 to #10. A sequence is clocked with the Step gate input jack. The Reset gate input resets the sequence to the first step. To stop the sequence, press and release the Mono button without touching a Channel Touch Pad.

Enter Duophonic Mode by pressing the Duo button. In Duophonic mode the All output section mixes the outputs of both the Left and Right selected channels creating interaction and transposition between the Left and Right sections. The Left and Right output sections respond when a channel in their section is pressed.

The result is a palate of waveforms tuned to perfection with proprietary analog designs and countless listening tests. The Pittsburgh Filter is the heart of the SV-1b. The first collaboration between Michael and Richard, it defines the sound of Pittsburgh. Buttery smooth, the filter adds a depth and weight to waveforms so it never sounds dull. Michael's liquid resonance circuit allows the Pittsburgh Filter to overdrive smoothly and never lose the bottom end regardless of how high you turn up the resonance. Everywhere is a sweet spot.

The MIDI to CV converter enables you to connect all your MIDI-compatible gear and convert it to control voltage right inside the SV-1b. Volt per octave, gate, CC, and velocity outputs allow you to connect to your MIDI keyboard or DAW while a digital LFO with sine, triangle, square, and quantized random voltage waveforms provides clock sync'd modulation options. A clock input allows you to override the internal or MIDI clock and sync to external CV and gate clock signals. The built-in arpeggiator unlocks another level of playability and the capacity to create complex and fresh musical patterns out of just a few notes.

The custom core, dual analog oscillators provide the sonic framework for massive synth sounds and a deep exploration of east coast synthesis. Sine, triangle, saw, and square waves are at your control, all available to modulate via FM and hard sync. Oscillator One also contains our unique blade wave. The shifting saw-like shape of the blade wave can be controlled using the width CV input, creating a sweeping or chorusing effect. Oscillator Two is normaled to the FM of Oscillator One, providing jaw-dropping analog FM bass, deep percussive hits, searing leads, and thick, warm analog pads which all come to life from these two Pittsburgh designed, organic sounding oscillators. Both analog oscillators dip well below audio rate, allowing them to function as voltage controllable LFOs.

A utility LFO with triangle and square wave outputs is ideal for VCA or Filter frequency sweeps. Or, turn it up and release the dynamic FM capabilities of either oscillator. A Tools section provides access to two sub-octave oscillators, derived from Oscillator One's core frequency. Analog noise and sample & hold finish out the Tools section.

This versatile four channel mixer comes pre-wired for fast access to Oscillator One's sine, saw, pulse and sub. However, you are just a patch cable away from instantly making your own unique blend of waveforms from the SV-1b. The mixer can also be split into two independent two channel mixers for maximum patching flexibility.

The SV-1b is pre-patched (normaled) internally so patch cables are not necessary to get started. A modern, semi-modular synthesiser inspired by the instruments designed by our heroes. The Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 takes a new approach to building a raw, analogue monosynth with a host of unconventional and inspirational features. Patch cables optional.

Creative Synthesis Design:

With our new temperature stabilized, dual VCA oscillator core, the analogue audio engine of the Microvolt 3900 feeds a set of timbral waveshapers crafted for deep harmonic shaping, enabling a layer of additive synthesis alongside the classic subtractive synthesis waveforms. Waveforms are fed into our binary filter, a custom state variable filter architecture offering near infinite resonance with or without self-oscillation. Sonically this creates a juicy, fluid filter adding depth and energy to the oscillator that can scream if you ask it to.

The heart of the Microvolt 3900's sound is our new dynamic VCA technology. Where a standard VCA works in two dimensions, the Microvolt 3900 dynamic VCA technology adds a third dimension. As the dynamic VCA closes, decreasing the amplitude, harmonics are removed from the source. As the dynamic VCA opens, the harmonics are restored. This mimics the behaviour of sounds in nature. The result is a lively, organic sounding synthesiser full of energy. The design of the dynamic VCA also allows the instrument to be plucked or struck, opening up another set of percussive musical possibilities.

Open Electronic Experimentation:

The Microvolt 3900 is patched internally and does not require patch cables to dial in a wide variety of unique and powerful sounds. For deeper experimentation, the Microvolt 3900 includes a 39-point Eurorack format friendly 1/8" jack patchbay for complete signal routing control over a full complement of audio and modulation options. A four-stage envelope generator, multi-purpose function generator, wide range LFO, chaotic random source, arpeggiator, sequencer, and MIDI to CV control are also available to create dynamic sounds unique to the Microvolt 3900.
