Out Of Reach (2018 rework)
Untitled One
Muzik Electronica
Review: Hailing from the Rhythm Plate multiverse, Pressed For Time is one of the many outposts carrying the work of Matlock's finest house music protagonists. Reaching beyond the regular roster of Goshawk, YSE and the full-blown 'Plate, this latest transmission calls on deep cover UK house crew BRS, also known as British Rhythm Services, who step up with some crucial workouts for sophisticated dancefloors. The quartet of Ben Vecara, Rob Evans, Steve Wilson & Dom Thompson have a sizable legacy behind them, not least from the early 00s when they were regularly rolling out releases for the likes of 20:20 Vision, Cyclo and Friends & Families. After a quiet patch their return is marked out by a broad spectrum of deep house delights locked onto the kind of shuffled grooves that Rhythm Plate heads should be more than happy with, and plenty of loose, live-sounding keys to boot.

Devils Music (8:08)
Devils Music (YSE remix) (7:28)
Better For That! (6:47)
Out Of Reach (Goshawk remix) (6:35)
Review: Pressed For Time did a great job of unearthing British deep house cult heroes BRS with the Situation E.P. last year, and now they're back with another slab of high grade club tackle from this criminally overlooked outfit. "Devil's Music" is a luscious, easy-paced groover that drips with honey-coated synth lines to make you go "hmmmm." Pressed For Time regular YSE knows what's up, nudging the track into a headier deep house zone that would go down perfect in a woozy, smoke filled late hour of the party. "Better For That!" is a cheeky little organ laced number that straddles the deep house and minimal shuffle crowds with its sharp, snappy arrangement. Then Goshawk lands a killer remix of "Out Of Reach" which heads into freaky, swinging territory for the cool cats to get loose to.

It Feels Like Yesterday (6:27)
Make A Way (6:27)
A Song For Remy (6:27)
Review: After a rare sighting on the esteemed Kolour LTD with the much lauded 'From the Woods EP', the secretive and elusive Goshawk is now taking flight on Pressed For Time with 'The Hunt EP' - a four tracker of warm, garage swung grooves.

Taking influence from mid 90s US house, late 90s French house and the free party sound much loved by DiY, this second solo EP should go some way to establishing the signature Goshawk 'sound': Warm yet heavy. Happy yet sad. The music of a boat party drifting out to sea.

As one half of Rhythm Plate he has been involved in the house scene for over 15 years, releasing seminal EPs on Mantis, Winding Road, Hudd Traxx, DiY and Lost my Dog to name a few.

With remixes for Kiko Navarro, Joshua IZ, and Situation all in the bag, 2015 really is the year of the Goshawk.

I Live For The Love You Give
Review: Rhythm Plate vet Matt Hunt is back with his Goshawk alias and the snappily titled Double House & Triple Garage EP, kicking off with the warm and steady grooving deep house of "Down In Brooklyn". "Both Sides Buttered" is a cheekier affair that flirts with splashes of sassy organ chords and finger clicks to die for, but things get serious once more with the soul-drenched "88 Keys", which features an undisclosed number of melodic piano and Rhodes parts twirling in bluesy harmony. "I Live For The Love You Give" finishes the EP off with a sharp jack in its step and a heartfelt vocal lift to drill some raw emotion into your no-nonsense heads-down house session.

Goshawk - "Mozambique" (dub Chord) (6:13)
Rhythm Plate - "String Thing" (7:47)
Shaka - "Dream Things" (5:56)
YSE - "Reflections" (6:27)
Review: The regular cast of characters to be found lurking round Pressed For Time knock heads over some no-nonsense groovesome house music for those who like a kink in their party selections. Goshawk lead the charge with the tough yet soulful "Mozambique (Dub Chord)", using some choice keys and vocal samples to create a warm mood over the top of the chunky drums. Rhythm Plate turn the funk up and smooth out proceedings with undulating pads and string stabs before Shaka strides in on the flip with an impeccable slice of boogie-infused good time house music. YSE rounds the EP off with a peppy workout sprinkled with playful leads and a tightly wound beat.

Goshawk - "Take You Home"
Tatsu - "Walk Away"
Tim Tonal - "Love What U Feel"
Leon Revol - "Tape Loop"
Review: Four tracks, four producers. One label regular, three new recruits. Four different takes on the deep house sound that we know and love here at PFT. Label regular/boss Goshawk kicks things off with the dubby slo-mo house grooves of 'Take You Home' which has a raw hypnotic disco inflected groove complete with chopped up vocals. Serious biznizz. Tatsu (aka DJ Isaac Indart from the Puro crew in Palma, Mallorca) offers up the bumping deep vibes on 'Walk Away' - think snapping snares, square wave basslines and sunkissed pads. WARM. Tim Tonal is most notably known for being part of the Alphadogs, whose incredible 'Bonelicker EP' on DIY is an all-time free party classic. He supplies another sure fire party starter with 'Love What U Feel', Nottingham soundsystem house at it's finest Finally, coming straight out of Bordeaux is Leon Revol (Apersonal) with the sublime 'Tape Loop' - a rolling, locked in groove with a fantastic arrangement which keeps the groove interesting throughout.

It's About Trust
Let's Move
Let's Move (Goshawk Raptor remix)
Review: Pressed For Time reaches its tenth release with the skillful tones of Russian maestro Mihail A. Popov in his I Gemin guise. The original tracks on this 12" show off Popov's musicality, with "It's About Trust" in particular revelling in fuzzy synth tones and laid back beats that place focus on jazzy keys and chord progressions. "Let's Move" keeps things equally slow and sexy, with a particularly rubbery bassline flirting with sampled brass and shiny chords. YSE leads the charge in terms of remixes, bringing a tightly wound garage swing to "It's About Trust" while Goshawk's "Raptor Remix" of "Let's Move" heads into a classic deep house terrain for the smooth groovers.

Review: Rhythm Plate are absolute powerhouses when it comes to delivering top-notch tech house, and they're back once again on Pressed For Time with this sizable payload of classy joints. There's a timeless quality to this stuff, whether it's the late-night swirl of "Sacrement" or the choppy, quirked-up groove of "Every Kind Of People With Any Kind Of Soul". Out of time and out of mind, the Plate just bring the kind of satisfaction to club music that could launch a thousand sessions. For the late night crew, for the mid-morning rollers and the sophisticated toe-tappers in between, sink your ear-teeth into this generous serving but whatever you do, don't call it an album.

Sound Of Rhythm Plate
The New Sound Of Rhythm Plate
Miles Between Us
More Miles Between Us
Review: The production renaissance of Rhythm Plate continues apace with the third release on their Pressed For Time label which revisits one of the Peak District duo's earliest releases. Originally issued on the crucial UK house imprint DIY Discs back in the halcyon days of the late nineties, the Masters At Wirksworth EP helped establish the Rhythm Plate sound. Clever programming and a deep stomping vibe permeated all four tracks and this is still the case some fourteen years on. As the cunningly re-titled EP suggests, the two original tracks have been newly remastered and are accompanied by two brand spanking new mixes by Matt Rhythm and Ant Plate...so there's now no reason to pay L106 on discogs for the original EP!

Lean (Rhythm Plate Leaner remix)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!!! Matlock's finest Rhythm Plate resurface brandishing a new label in Pressed For Time, and what better way to inaugurate it than revisiting one of their key tracks. Released back in 2002 on the Mantis label run by Atjazz, "Lean Part 2" was a wonderfully sleazy slab of deepness notable for the lascivious vocal hook that hung slinkily over the production throughout. It still sounds superb some 13 years on and is backed with an unreleased version that was done in the same period, along with deliciously freaky new "Leaner" mix from the pair.

No More (HomePark Reach-Around reduction) (7:12)
No More (Maad Maxx Traxxe Jaxx) (7:00)
Review: After a geographically imposed hiatus (the travel links between Nottingham and Hong Kong are intermittent to say the least) Pressed For Time label bosses Rhythm Plate are back with a new project featuring Massive Attack/Presence vocalist Sarah Jay. The original mix of 'No More' is a moody house roller with some trademark Rhythm Plate chord progressions and speaker thumping bass frequencies. Using chopped up licks of Sarah Jay's vocal to introduce the groove it subtly segues into the main vocal and then builds to a euphoric climax complete with strings and synth flourishes. The Goshawk (50% Rhythm Plate DNA) Vocal Flight treads a more New Jersey deep garage vibe with swinging hats, lush warm chords, bumping bassline and chopped up sax. One for the late night, locked in crew. Homepark (Ornate/Third Strike) go for a more party vibe with tougher drums and a Mr Fingers style bassline. A proper dub mix if you will. Finally, Mad Maxx Traxx are baxxx on PFT with a speaker damaging Dance Mania style drum track. No messing. Rumour has it there may be some more of 'No More' watch this space.

No More (Situation remix)
Review: "It's not often you get to work with vocalists of Sarah Jay's calibre (Massive Attack/Presence) so here at PFT we decided to enlist some heavyweight talent to make the most of this opportunity. Kicking off the second EP we have the one and only Rob Mello (Classic/Defected/Crosstown Rebels) on remix duties. To say we are excited about this is an understatement (we are very excited). The No Ears Vocal mix is a proper anthem with elements of deep house, 80s boogie and nu-disco to these ears. Matt RiVEM aka Goshawk is up next with a 110bpm disco mix complete with chunky drums, Chic style live guitar (thanks Martyn Bentley!) and signature chord progressions. Real nice warm up/calm down tackle with enough oomph to be played LOUD. Ant Plate turns in a phenomenal YSE Saint Laur'ant reversion that channels house (obviously), punk funk and dub disco into a floor filling underground monster. Some particularly interesting drum fills and percussion take the track to another level. Finally, Situation come complete with a delicious live broken beat number in radio edit format. Think Schmoov/Atjazz era DIY and you are there or thereabouts."

YSE - "99% Invisible"
YSE Saint Laur'Ant - "When You Love Me"
Rhythm Plate - "I Think I've Dreamed This Before"
Review: Rhythm Plate's re-emergence through their Pressed For Time label continues apace on this second release, a split 12" that pairs a new cut from Matlock's finest with solo productions from Ant Plate as YSE and YSE Saint Laurent. Hissy warehouse beats, simple chord vamps and Rapturous oh-vocals characterise YSE's dryish yet muscular "99% Invisible", whilst Plate's YSE Saint Laurent contribution "When You Love Me" pairs some R&B vocal sampling with drawn out synths and wispy percussion placed on top of a grooving bassline similar to Bernard Badie's '09 Mojuba hit "Move To The Beat". Rhythm Plate's submission, "I Think I've Dreamed This Before" adds a warming calmness to the EP, allowing a spirited synth line to traverse its arrangement like a geisha float-walking through an Japanese garden of snowy arpeggios and moss covered basslines.

The Inventor

In House Cafe
Push It
Review: Villee is making a first appearance here on Pressed For Time, but you'd be forgiven for thinking these tracks were unearthed from the vaults of a 90s mainstay like Larry Heard or Cajmere. "The Inventor" has a crooked swing to it that could only come from an MPC, while the dusty samples and buttery bassline are pure vintage deep house goodness. "Night Walk" is delightfully looped up, keeping things simple and maintaining the depth in the process. "In House Cafe" amps up the funk a little, putting plenty of weight on the bottom end, and "Push It" taps into the sort of heady moodiness you'd expect from Kenny Dixon Jr.

All We Are

Review: Ant Plate's YSE alias is back on Pressed For Time, displaying some of the craftiest house cuts from a persistently crafty house producer. Quite how the plucky Rhythm Plate vet finds time to make all these jams we don't know, but once again we're treated to four classy workouts for those that know. On this record "Unstoppable" and "All We Are" are the most floor-focused - both get into a wiggly groove that makes the most of its samples without overshadowing the beat. "Sun Shadow" and "You Told Me" on the other hand are warm, tender chord fests custom built to melt hearts in a classic deep house style.

This Loves The Same (6:23)
9828 (6:12)
I Gave You My (5:28)
Night Prescription (7:35)
Review: After a series of mesmerising (and massive) EPs under his more disco orientated YSE Saint Laur'ant moniker - Pressed for Time label head Ant Plate is back in his deep house mode with an EP of YSE goodness

No messing about with the opener 'This Loves the Same' - YSE goes straight in there with some dancefloor heat that has enough quirk to counteract the house swing.

'9 8 2 8' is all badboy garridge wonk with some excellent detuned chords and a catchy, nagging vocal refrain - SWAG.

On the flip, 'I gave you my' is proper deep house (as in it's actually deep) with some trademark YSE chords, blissed out vocal samples and great drum programming.

'Night Prescription' rounds things off with a homage to the classic US house sound. Think Chuggles 'I remember dance' but with an East midlands twist.

No idea what the EP title means, we think Ant's keyboard is faulty

Maad Maxx Traxxe - "Lakeshore Rollin"
Rhythm Plate - "I, The Music"
YSE - "Sidehackers"
Review: This fourth release from Pressed For Time is the label's second various artist EP featuring three known names and one new. The newcomer is Ben 'Boe Recordings' Boe under his Maad Maxx Traxxe alias. He provides "Lakeshore Rollin", a linear, dub-tinged slice of thwacking deep house. YSE top and tails this 12" with a chiming, rhode-cruising "Tomorrows Yesterday", while his B2 is slower and woozy with a killer smacking hit on the offbeat. Label regular Rhythm Plate also features with the vocal lead "I, The Music".
