Review: Since their emergence as Cassegrain some four years ago, the Greco-Austrian pairing of Alex Tsiridis and Huseyin Evirgren have carved out their own corner in the world of foreboding, bassline driven, deep techno and it's found a welcome home in Prologue. After five releases for the Munich outpost, including last year's stellar Tiamat double pack, Cassegrain grace Prologue with their debut album Centres of Distraction. Tsiridis and Evirgren apparently sought inspiration from "the classic 90s electronic album format" when approaching these ten tracks and it certainly covers a lot more moods than the average contemporary techno long player. Greek cellist Nikos Veliotis (of Mohammad and In Trance 95 fame) adds an extra edge to proceedings on abstract highlight "Empress Cut In Segments".

Review: British/Greek and Berlin/Vienna duo Alex Tsiridis and Huseyin Evirgren helm the 30th release on Prologue and approach such a landmark with the requisite reverence, offering up a double 12" helping of Cassegrain material. Tiamet sees the pair explore the Babylonian mythology of an ocean dwelling, chaos monster across six tracks with the resultant dubby, diluted sound design a cultivated step forward from Cassegrain's previous works. This release highlights Cassegrain's ability to embed rich and experimental sonics within a techno-functional framework and cultured ears will pick out subtle influences from fellow Prologue artists Cio D'Or and Mike Parker at points throughout. We'd have to agree with the label in their summation Tiamet is some of the best techno they've heard so far.

Tiamat (Inland remix)
Taiga (Svreca remix)
Task (TM404 remix)
Turn (Mike Parker remix)
Review: Last year's double plated Tiamat from Berlin duo Cassegrain was a suitably grandiose way for the Prologue label to toast accruing thirty releases, brandishing six heady tracks of dubby techno characterised by superb sound design. Given the standard of the original material from Alex Tsiridis and Huseyin Evirgren, it's little surprise to see Prologue seek out some high profile artists for this Tiamat Remixes 12". Ed Davenport leads the way with an Inland remix of the title track that expertly builds from its taut, swinging beginnings into a vast techno behemoth, which dovetails nicely with the gloopy sound design of Svreca's take on "Taiga". Andreas Tilliander implements his sense of Roland based ingenuity to a TM404 remix of "Task" whilst Mike Parker does what he does best with a mind bending exploration of "Turn Aside".

Yokai
Hexagon Fifteen
Review: Since Cassegrain entered the techno consciousness back in 2010 with the final artist 12? on Kevin Gorman's Mikrowave label, the Greco-Austrian pairing of Alex Tsiridis and Huseyin Evirgren have carved out their own corner in the world of foreboding, bassline driven, deep techno. And with material from Tiamat the focus of a recent heavyweight remix package from Prologue - Mike Parker, Svreca, Andreas Tilliander's TM404 project and Ed 'Inland' Davenport all involved - Cassegrain return to the Munich label with their first solo release of 2014. The title track's power electronics fall somewhere between a Regis, British Murder Boys and Donato Dozzy production, while the focus of "Hexagon Fifteen" is steely ambience, oblique drums and ghostly textures. The final track, "Yokai", is what real Prologue fans will associate with most thanks to its floating hypnotisms and extreme feedback loops.

Review: Murky, organic and gravelly techno is the Cassegrain sound that we know and love from. Here Munich based label Prologue snap up the duo for the freshly squeezed Dropa EP. No exception to the techno rule, dark, progressing sounds rife with complexity and eeriness strike again on "Dropa", while "Luban" echoes with gruff metallic edges as it progresses through heavy kicks and bounding samples. "EUD" goes for a heftier tempo and piercing cymbal crashes, while "Lop-Nor" offers more of the same in an intricately crafted tunnel of mysterious kicks, hats and echoes.

Review: Here, Beat Pharmacy man Brendon Moeller delivers his fourth full-length, his first since 2011. In typical fashion, there's a twisted, druggy intensity to the music, which flits between psychedelic electronica (see opener "The Frequency of Love" and vaguely tropical "Stepping Out"), tough, acid-tinged techno beatscapes ("Guilty Pleasure"), dub-influenced sludge (the excellent title track), and dubstep-influenced industrial spookiness ("Deep Fried"). For all the murkiness on display, there are moments of startling beauty and almost alarming clarity, with the samba shuffle and sun-flecked melodies of "Tricks of the Shade", and picturesque, humid "Lost" standing out.

The Passing
Review: Scottish producer Tony Scott graces Prologue for the first time with a debut album under the Edit Select guise - now as established a name as his old Percy X work was. The Munich label is cultivating quite the reputation for techno album projects, with excellent longplayers from Mike Parker, Echologist, Dino Sabatini and of course Voices From The Lake in recent times and we can add Phlox to that pile. The Scotsman's collection of mesmerising and sometimes big-room techno productions is a perfect match for the Prologue aesthetic, pitched perfectly between moments of emotional ambience and "hypnotic monsters for the dance floor". Look out for a new rendition of "Bauer", which appeared on the Berghain 03 Mix CD and the Dino Sabatini collaboration "Survivors Of The Pulse".

Subterranean Liquid
FWD (Donato Dozzy remix)
Review: Munich imprint Prologue is the latest label to be graced by Mike Parker's experiments in techno abstractions, with the inclusion of a remix from Donato Dozzy likely to send pulses a racing. The Subterranean Liquid EP commences with the suitably titled "Ringing Bass" a droning acidic skeletal throb punctuated by paranoia inducing insect-like textures and a heavily treated vocal refrain that is repeated throughout with reverberant purpose. It's a restrained yet relentless opening gambit from the multi talented artist. The title track occupies similar locked groove sonic territory, launching straight into fuzzy kaleidoscopic Martian rhythms and understated syncopation consumed by a thick viscous bass throb. Donato Dozzy closes this excellent release with a stripped back remix of "FWD" that sees a barely audible beat engulfed by a growling acid wave that accrues several layers of additional menace the track progresses.

Review: Lustrations finds Mike Parker releasing a long overdue debut album filled with his distinctive whirring insectoid synths and overpowering basslines and represents a welcome return to Prologue for the first time since 2011. Undoubtedly one of the more interesting producers in contemporary techno, Parker's quiet obsession with analogue experimentation, fascination with ring modulators and love for the atonal and dissonant works equally well in the album format as it does on those distinctive looking Geophone 12"s he has put out over the past few years. A theme of clarity and hypnotism is apparent when listening through all twelve variations of "Lustration" and together they combine for another superb LP release from Prologue.

Weldiya 3
Review: Moving from his own imprint to the auspicious Prologue, mysterious Swedish producer Abdulla Rashim provides an EP of intricately textured techno on this superb release. "Weldiya 1" has all the nuance of Shifted's recent productions, as a tense synth drone is tightly wound around a rigid beat. "Weldiya 2" sees a subtle variation on the same theme, as gentle hi-hats drift over a firm, hypnotic pulse. "Weldiya 3" meanwhile is an enthralling piece of looping ambience, kept from drifting into oblivion by its crackling textures, and concludes three productions that should mark Rashim out as someone to keep an eye on over the coming year.

Review: Prologue issue this necessary 12" accompaniment to Shaman's Path, the recent and rather excellent debut album from Berlin dwelling Italian producer Dino Sabatini. Over the course of the last five years, Sabatini's been fine tuning his own distinct brand of voodoo-strewn minimalism and hypnotic darkroom techno, and Shaman's Path gave the Italian the chance to present it as an extended concept over 11 tracks. Removing three tracks from the album might theoretically negate the conceptual impact of the whole, however you can't really argue that "Vision Quest" or "Totem" lose any of their creeping, hypnotic potency here. Furthermore, the micro attention to detail and impending sense of droning dread that characterises "White Witch" somehow feels even more immersive when granted the freedom of the B-Side.

Review: Italian-in-Berlin Dino Sabatini has spent much of the last five years building his reputation as a maker of voodoo-strewn minimalism and hypnotic darkroom techno. Here, he continues to explore the possibilities of intoxicating rhythms with his debut full-length, a decidedly paranoid set for longtime label Prologue. As the title suggests, Shaman's Path is a concept album based around witchcraft and voodoo, featuring the sort of hypnotic grooves and off-kilter synths that should probably be sound tracking a weird fertility ritual in a rain-soaked South American forest. As concepts go, it's pretty solid. More importantly, it offers ample opportunity to explore his deep techno ambitions.

Review: Voices From The Lake is the first full-length collaboration between Italian techno producers Donato Dozzy and Neel. The album was recorded last summer in Rome, before being previewed as a live show at a wooded mountainside festival in Japan. This detail is perhaps crucial. Throughout, Voices From The Lake feels surprisingly 'live', given its almost entirely electronic contents. There's a fluidity to the rhythms and a green, organic tinge to the musty, atmospheric sounds that flit between the speakers. It's minimal, yes, but there's a strange warmth to proceedings. It's not cold and icy - an accusation often leveled at atmospheric techno - but rather pleasingly cosy.
