Review: There's a lot to be said for club music that aims to both soothe the senses and move the feet. We can think of few better examples than "Some Song Teachers", the title track from this Public Possession collaboration between Cos/Mes member 5ive and label-hopping Swede Samo DJ. While underpinned by a sturdy, tactile rhythm track, it's the blissful electronics and undulating, rising and falling synthesizer melodies - new age influenced, but also intensely positive and mood-enhancing - that make the track so addictive. Flipside "Dilemma" is similarly smile inducing, offering a tasty twist on melodious, dusty deep house. It's nowhere near as striking as its' predecessor, but it's still a very fine track indeed.

Review: After having released their debut EP last year, Munich's Public Possession are proud to present Stockholm duo Aksel & Aino's first full length titled Lullabies for Submarines. Described as a 'grand tale of companionship', the combination of Aksel's instrumentation and Aino's poetry remains upbeat and looks to a bright future. From the glassy-eyed, bittersweet and Krafterk-y 'Dancing Grass', the slo-mo disco of 'Fewiopia', Italo influenced flavour of 'Spallanzani' plus some Metro Area influenced melancholia on the cover of Roxette's pop classic 'Fading Like A Flower'. Review: Australian producer Andrew Wilson (House of Dad / Wilson Tanner) dons the Andras Fox alias once again for his latest outing for Munich's Public Possession crew, who describe the Boom Boom EP as a 'reprogramming of world music influenced dance music .. subtle and unwired'. From the Afro house influenced bounce of "Jingo" or "Rubber", moving from said aesthetics in to classic house on the upbeat "Conch" or the quite euphoric trance reduction of "Ipx 7" - this record is bound to be a major festival hit this season and guaranteed to sound good on any listening device you choose!

Review: Public Possession welcomes back Aroma Pitch for another four tracker that bares all their usual hallmarks - namely lots of warm analogue sounds that unite everything from driving to Balearic beats via big room nu-disco and playful in-between sounds. 'Millennium Surfer' opens with a wash of gently twirling synth arps and 80s drums, there is a fantastically bubbling bassline and dubby feel to 'Balearic Shift', while 'Staub Groove' is a more thumping house cut with weird synth textures. Without doubt it is closer 'Areal Earth (dub)' that wins the EP with its ethereal pads, dreamy vibes and smooth dub house low end.

Review: Baba Stiltz is one of the greatest musical chameleons of our time. From the darkened booths of Europe's techno clubs, to the wild, open plains of half-imagined western Frontierlands, he's proven more than capable of turning a hand to an incredible variety of sounds, with a particularly lo-fi take on alternative indie rock, infused with a kind of contemporary country blend, coming to the fore more recently. Paid Testimony is, err, testimony to just how adept he is at conjuring images of small town USA. An album born from numerous trips that took the FilipinoAmerican-Swedish artist from Stockholm to northern California, it presents a series of archetypal characters summoned in some strange dream of what the latter region could and should be. People who plot bank heists, drink milk and vodka after midnight, and look for confrontation at every corner. A surreal, yet strangely poignant and universal gem.

Review: Munich nu-balearic crew Public Possession broaden their horizons beyond said sensibilities, but instead venture further into oddball groove territory; in this case it's Sweden. First up Born Free main man Samo DJ delivers the low slung funk groove of "Triad Board Meeting" (sounding like some creepy, old midi file.. yet not altogether unpleasant) while Baba Stilz delivers some of the weirdest deep house you'll hear this year on on "Pacific Times" and "Beirut" respectively. But they save the best for last on the explosive collaboration between Samo and Cititrax troublemaker Tzusing on "Hollabackboi", a smashing, pop-inflected curveball that'll flip your mind.

Review: Melbournian eccentric Bell Towers is back on Public Possession for the first time in 2018, carrying with him all the tools to turn your common-or-garden flat-pack bookcase into a portal to another dimension. In its EP opening "Dance Mix" form, "IKEA Hack" pits a druggy, chugging analogue machine groove against chiming melody lines, glossy synth-pop chords and twinkling piano lines that inspire the same kind of euphoria that most feel after leaving a branch of the well-known Swedish furniture chain. It's accompanied on the A-side by the rather delicious, slow motion Chill Out Mix, while side B is taken up by a long, lo-fi, eccentric and crackling Baba Stiltz remix that helpfully features vocal samples explaining how to turn some off-the-shelf consumer product into something entirely different.

Review: Back in 2014 Bell Towers cemented his growing bromance with the Public Possession crew by delivering a fine collection of quirky reworks entitled Buro-Hahn Edits. In the four years since, the Australian exile has become one of the label's most prolific artists. Here he finally delivers a follow-up, expertly rearranging more obscure, left-of-centre gems. Typically, opener "Call Me (Please)" is a dreamy chunk of chugging, Italo-inspired '80s synth-pop, while "No, I'm Not An Easy Girl" is a slightly delay-laden chunk of jaunty Balearic-minded electrofunk whose chorus and saucer-eyed chords will stick in your cranium. Turn to the flip for a dash of sparse drum machine magic ("Sexy, Sexy, Sexy, Sex"), a sax-laden, poodle perm sporting Italo sleaze-job ("You Got Me Running"), and some jangling, soft focus Balearica ("The Cat").

Review: Hailing from Australia but based in East London, Rohan Bell-Towers has become one of the artists most readily-associated with Marvin and Valentino's Public Possession label. I'm Coming Up is the seventh PP release bearing the Bell-Towers name and the title cut sees him whipping up some forthright club tackle. There are plenty of sliced up soul-enriching samples licking about the jam, but the focus is on straight up house rhythms that scream out for peak time play. There's a more esoteric lilt at work on B-side cut "I'm Always Down For You", which slows things down a touch and works in some choice vocal choppery and a bassline to die for and is complemented by a remix from rising talent Kris Baha.

Review: Munich's Public Possession maintain the heat of their first two releases from Tambien and Matthew Brown, turning to another lesser known talent in Bell Towers for the excellent Lightrail 12". Those vinyl buyers out there with photographic memories will recognize the name Bell Towers from releases on Internasjonal and Hole In The Sky and the young Melbournite comes through with his most epic work to date for Public Possession. In original form "Lightrail" takes the shape of a strident house cut that builds with a sense of glistening euphoria over some eleven minutes; it's complemented by a wholly more rugged remix from Protect U that at times feels like an EBM cover version of Yello's "Oh Yeah". Killer cover art from Perks and Mini's Misha Hollenbach too!

Review: Bell Towers has become Public Possession's go-to man, releasing a trio of singles on the Munich imprint throughout 2014. The Hyper-Realised EP continues this productive partnership, delivering two more slices of kaleidoscopic, melodious house to heighten the senses. "Hyper-Realised Self" sets the tone, delivering the kind of enveloping, melodious, cheery deep house jam that sounds like Pender Street Steppers after fistfuls of prescription anti-depressants. "Jumpin' Off Into The Sea Of Your Love" is similarly happy, with the Aussie producer layering chiming melodies over dreamy chords and a tactile groove and sensual synth-bass. Both tracks are wonderfully chipper, and sound tailor-made for sun-soaked outdoor parties.

Review: This one is for those that snooze out there. Public Possession address the clamour for a re-edition of the excellent Buro Hahn Edits 12" from London-based Australian producer Bell-Towers. Originally released back in 2014 as part of the Munich label's ongoing Under The Influence series, this 12" offered Rohan Bell-Towers the chance to show off some of his weapons-grade dancefloor edits which demonstrated the producer's distinct sense of fun bleeds through everything he touches. Lead cut "My Love" sees Bell-Towers tweak out a mid-'80s synth pop curio from the West Country, whilst the grumbling "Bump This" sounds like it was plundered from a similar era. "Deep Forest" is on some new age breakbeat house tip, whilst "Love Theme" slows it right down for an end of night contender. If you slept in 2014 when this originally dropped, don't make that same mistake again!

Review: Melbournian DJ/producer Bell Towers is one of Public Possession's most prolific artists. This 12" is his seventh for the Munich-based stable in just under four years. It's something of a celebratory, peak-time affair, with A-side "All Aboard" offering a near perfect balance of flanged, ear-catching disco guitars, elastic live bass, DJ-friendly special effects, and a house sensibility. "Night Train To Nowhere" is a more druggy and trippy affair, with Bell Towers channeling the spirit of kraut greats Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream on a cut that sits somewhere between Italo-disco, kosmiche, and quirky, left-of-centre house. In other words, it's another rock solid EP.

Review: Munich's Public Possession label returns with an lovely EP by new London-based outfit Birthday. The pop duo was founded in 2016 by RIP Swirl & Fake Laugh. Having had some great feedback on their first releases, they took a break to focus on their solo projects and other endeavours in and around the music industry, but make their comeback on Powerhouse. With the sweet as candy ditties like "Slug", to hazy and vaporised drifters like 'Locally Lost' or moments of sublime weirdo humour as heard on 'Chocolate For Breakfast' this could well be the most awesome comedown album of 2020.

Review: The fifth installment of New Zealand producer Eden Burns' Big Beat Manifesto series sees a culmination of Trance, Future Bass and Deep House elements in the expansive mixes of 'Choir Song' and 'Eden's Acid' that never takes a moment to stop, constantly flowing between different vibes and atmospheres throughout each track. There are pure house moments, like on the piano banger 'Super Stroke', not to mention the whimsical trance cut 'Dance When The' and its fun use of vocal samples. The Big Beat series is youthful and fun at its very nature, and is a refreshing take on the longstanding house genre. Burns' work to this day reflects his colourful and maximalist introduction to the scene as a teenager, and these light and uplifting tracks are just another in a long list of reasons you should be listening.

Review: Two months after the vinyl release of 'Big Beat Manifesto Vol V', the 6th installment of New Zealand producer Eden Burns' Big Beat Manifesto series is a melting pot of key features from Trance, Future Bass and Deep House, stirred and baked together in a playful and refreshing way. Side A features 'Hands Off My Beat', a joyous piece of tribal house that is sure to be a people pleaser, and 'Beat The Chart' which heel turns into a chiptune techno workout anthem - not the most severe genre 180 that Burns has ever done. Side B is the real treat. 'Hands On The Chart(Pad version)' is the masterclass in genre-fusion that keeps us coming back time after time to Burns. The track does what it says on the tin, the thumping pacemaker of a techno beat combined with airy percussion of 'Hands Off My Beat' and its tribal house borrowings. Following this release, Big Beat Manifesto is becoming more and more like an actual manifesto for deep house in all its shapes and sizes. In time the work of Eden Burns will prove to be incredibly influential on the house scene worldwide, and yet another banging release goes to show just that.

'Invercargirl' is upbeat, fresh house music with tropical samples and a rubbery bassline that just hooks you in from the off. Proving he has plenty of different tricks up his sleeve, 'Intro Manus' rides on a loopy, rickety beat with a more polished electronic sound and freaky a samples and then '22 Dance Demo' cuts loose on a wildly percussive vibe. These are house tracks that bring something new and fresh each and every time.

Review: Public Posession's Big Beat Manifesto hits a seventh volume here with the prophet Eden Burns bringing more of those direct-to-dancefloor sounds that he is so well known for. Molten acid defines the deep atmospheres of 'Free Your Mind' and then more textural synths and raw, live-sounding drums provide the foundation for 'Around N Around.' 'House Non Stop' picks up with some prickly acid squelch and bouncing house drums while 'Multitool' closes out with a flailing percussive workout and tribal energy. Another fine volume in the series.

Review: Public Possession welcomes back Tubbs & Burns for a second volume of their eponymous series. It comes a year after the first which showcased their leftfield take on house across four well-received cuts. This outing is just as likely to turn heads with 'Shaker' first up to twist your mind with spangled synths and drums weaving around one another. 'Timmy's Dream' (Ritual dub) is a heavily percussive and dubbed-out tribal sound with 'Made Of Brass' layering up mystic jungle synths with more great hand drums and steamy horns. 'Timmy's Dream' (Monday 5am mix) is perfect for the afters with its more freaky vibes.

Review: Eden Burns & Christopher Tubbs come together for a deep house exploration on the third volume of their self-titled 12" series on Public Possession. '"Where Were U In 92?' opens up with some sublimely slow motion but seductive drums and smeared synths that are coloured with a dreamy, detached vocal that drifts up top and is doused in echo. On the flip is 'ON&ON' (feat Nathan Haines) which picks up the pace and brings more percussive jack to the beats and a little extra lightness in the melody. The Bullet Train mix takes things more into peak-time territory with hints of techno in the rhythms.

Review: DDWY appeared on Public Possession label earlier in the year when they put out their Chill Pill compilation and their contribution was the perfectly balearic dance gem 'Orchard'. Now the pair is back with a limited edition album, Sprig Songs. It lays out their distinctive take on dance music which is dubbed out and trippy, often slow paced, doused in proggy melodies and all flavoured with unique Nangis chants. The spell binding selection includes the warped rhythms and FX of 'Green Villa' and otherworldly depths of 'Do Deers Dream?' while 'Hair Spiders' is a more dancefloor ready and dubbed out beatdown.

Review: Venetian self-described "avant garde conservative" Simone De Kunovich is back to quickly follow up his last outing in March with a new electro EP on Public Possession. He also ended last year on a high with the final part of his Mondo Nuovo series and seems to be in full creative flow again here. 'Flow My Tears' is an old school throwback with sugary 80s synths sounds and lush cosmic arps, then 'Super Mana Drain' local into a chugging Italo disco vibe that will get hands in the air as it travels to the stars. 'Warp World' is a more heavy thumper but still one defined by its bright and colourful synth work.

Review: Berlin-based Johan Norling's DJ City project is not afraid to tackle big samples, as this new outing on Public Possession proves. He is a regular here and always brings the fun, so long as you can suspend your sense of disbelief at, for exanple, a massive Cold Play reference. 'Clocks' lifts its melody from the stadium-rock anthem of the same name and has the vocals reusing in a deadpan German vocal. It's weird but it works, even if it is sure to divide opinion. The same tune is on both sides for plenty of hardcore DJ abuse.

Review: Pagan Rites group member DJ City (real name Johan Norling) recently returned to action with his first new material for almost two years. Here he continues his welcome revival with a decidedly loved-up two-tracker on Public Possession (his second 12" for the German imprint). A-side "A&F" is particularly delicious, sitting somewhere between the saucer-eyed, piano-sporting Balearic house of sometime label-mate Telephones, the colourful lusciousness of turn-of-the-90s Italian dream house and a German take on mid-80s Italo-disco. He continues on a similar - albeit notably deeper - vein on flipside title track "Important Message", adding his own deadpan vocals ("I hope you don't die taking drugs tonight") to a warm and tactile backing track that fixes bubbly nu-disco synths and proto-house flourishes to vintage Larry Heard beats and chords.

Review: On the face of it, putting out a 12" called Collected Works Part 1 from a producer who has previously released just one EP may seem a bit strange. Munich-based Henry Gilles, though, has been producing for some time; last year's debut 12" on Rawax featured tracks recorded in 2011 and 2012. This 12" for Public Possession - the first in a series of what the label says will be wildly eclectic in outlook - features tracks recorded over the last three years. There's much to admire, from the sleepy, ultra-deep house chug of "Exploring O S 102 O" and bittersweet "Gone But Not Forgotten" (an exercise in deep pads, hushed vocal samples and spitting drum machine percussion), to the disco-inspired dancefloor warmth of "Trance Atlantic".

Review: One of the most intriguing actions undertaken by Munich's excellent Public Possession label last year was the introduction of some solo work from Anton Klint, a Swedish artist know best for his work as part of TieDye. The two track Spritzer 12" was wonderfully oddball and Klint is back with more cuts for PP that really demand your attention! How best to describe lead track "Drunch"? What about a sprawling epic? That seems about right as it takes Klint's mastery of synths and applies this skill to a searing dancefloor production that will cause many a serotonin rush. "Dessert" is the odd brother, a clipped bit of disco strangeness that would probably appeal to Lena Willikens.

Review: Leonid Lipelis aka TMO/Beard In Dust (L.I.E.S./Bahnsteig 23) is back on Public Possession with "Bordeaux Lovin" described by the label themselves as an 'epic, emotional rave tune, building up for ecstasy' and we couldn't have said it any better ourselves. More classic house reminiscent of the U.K.'s second summer of love is catered for on the flip with "What Is It?" with its big time piano chord progression, jacking vocals and cracking old school rhythms that are gonna make you want to celebrate like it's '88 all over again.
