RM 12022 (B-STOCK)
Cat: RM 12022. Rel: 01 Jan 90

Deep House
Electropolis
Lain's Groove
Dead Nights & Headlights
Wild Shore
Review: ***B-STOCK: Torn sleeve, otherwise in excellent working condition***

Ewan Jansen returns to RAND Musik for a tricksy foray through the standard yet effective selection of four tracks: all are disparate, seemingly enchanted worlds. From opener 'Electropolis', we're launched into a bustling, wild, alternate garden of the dance, teeming with all manner of keen creatures and organic-sonic delights. Then comes the (hopefully) anime-referencing 'Lain's Groove' and 'Dead Nights And Headlights', which edge closer to the darker cores of Jansen's shadow self in sound. We finally reach the precipice on 'Wild Shore', which hears us witness the sonic core to end all other cores, in its brimming totality.

A2 - "Open Your Mind" (6:52)
A2 - "Entity" (7:35)
Andy Panayi - "Acidbend" (6:28)
Stopouts - "Pass Go" (8:00)
Review: Always a good week when some new RAND Muzik drops. The Leipzig imprint's brand of understated grooves are on fine display once again on this various artists EP. On RM 12015, feel the low-slung and funky dub of A2's 'Open Your Mind' which they follow up with some moody computer funk on the next track 'Entity'. Over on the B side, Andy Panayi serves up some dusty 303 shenanigans on 'Acidbend' in the vein of classic Cabinet Records and closing it out is Stopouts with the subterranean breaks of 'Pass Go'.

And You Never Come Back (7:01)
Am I Looking At Two Similar Cats? (6:06)
Review: Adding yet another slice of cheeky, aquatic and breaksy music to the pile, Lithuanian artist Pletnev debuts 'And You Never Came Back' for RAND Muzik, not shying from the characteristic playfulness that has his earlier releases like 'Peep Of Dawn' or 'Voranto Bros'. The opening track evokes the sense of turning subwoofers to quicksilver with a minimal MIDI midas touch, while the EP begins to open up properly on 'Average Monday', a slow-burn of sloshing flute-birds, gated vocals and buzzers. The B's highlight is 'Am I Looking At Two Cats', whose unusually bass-heavy groove recalls the work of late 1990s UK artist Snake Thing.

Closed Gateway (7:29)
Exit Strategy (5:45)
Comm Cycle (5:39)
Meridian (5:45)
Review: R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings brings back one of its old friends here as Basic Mind returns with more of his mind-expanding tech house trips. The Perth, Australia has always got grooves at the heart of his tunes and this offering is no different. 'Closed Gateway' kicks off with a sense of serene synth craft and crisp drum work before 'Exit Strategy' slows right down to leggy, slow-motion loops and dub swagger. 'Comm Cycle' has squelchy bass powering it along as widescreen and balmy pads soothe the soul up top then 'Meridian' closes out with another downtempo excursion.

Scheunenfund (7:07)
Seidenstreifen (4:49)
Erntegold (7:06)
Schemen (5:50)
Review: Sascha Funke and Niklas Wandt come together on R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings here and explore the worlds where house, IDM and Balearic all combine. The sound design is remarkable throughout here right from the first moments of 'Scheunenfund', which is an elegant groove that slowly awakens with bird calls and sleek new age ambience. 'Seidenstreifen' is more drum lead, the broken beats percolating under an eco-system of shuffling synth motifs. 'Erntegold' then heads off to the cosmos on seven techno drums and widescreen astral synths that recall the early Detroit forefathers. The best of the bunch is the busted rhythm of 'Schemen' with its raw drum slaps, jittery percussion and bursts of synth making you jack.
