  1. Jen High (6:24)
  2. When Round, They Go (6:30)
  3. When Round, They Go (Terekke remix) (6:30)
Review: Peggy Gou has had a busy debut year thanks to her opener on Phonica's white offshoot, and now two EP's out on Rekids in quick succession. Her sound is a subtle, minimalistic blend of house and techno, exactly the sort of tech-minded groovers that have appeared on Radio Slave's label in the past. "Jen High", for instance, takes a dusty being of drums and wraps them around delicate blends of chimes, whereas "When Round, They Go" heads deeper into space with the help of a sublimely cosmic swarm of sonics. The special piece comes from Terekke's remix of the latter, and the LIES man adds his signature touch to an already very deep house tune, making his version that one toke over the line!

  1. Troop (5:50)
  2. In Sum (6:33)
  3. Troop (Galcher Lustwerk remix) (7:26)
Review: Rekids' first 12" of 2016 comes from a previously untapped talent, Berlin-based producer Peggy Gou. The South Korea-born DJ/producer's sound has been influenced, in part at least, by that of her mentors and piano tutors Nu Guinea (a duo whose releases for Early Sounds have been superb). Certainly, you can hear their tropical take on deep house in opener "Troop", whose Afro-influenced beats combine brilliantly with Gou's humid melodies and beautiful chords. She flips the script slightly on "In Sum", where spacey, Detroit-influenced electronics envelop a snappy deep house rhythm. A fine debut EP is brought to a close by Galcher Lustwerk's remix of "Troop", which takes the track further towards Detroit techno territory via deep space electronics and cymbal-heavy beats.

Trans (clear vinyl 12")
Cat: REKIDS 122. Rel: 04 Jul 18
Techno
  1. Trans (Dixon Retouch) (7:24)
  2. Trans (Underground Resistance Hamtramck remix) (8:14)
Review: In its original form, "Trans" was one of the dancefloor highlights of Matt Edwards' second album as Radio Slave, 2017's Feel The Same. Here, the dark and stylish original - think alien new wave synth-pop from 1983 re-imagined as a Panoramabar-friendly workout - is given a makeover by two titans of the electronic music scene: Innervisions overlord Dixon and Detroit techno stalwarts Underground Resistance. Naturally, Dixon's rub is weightier and more obviously big room-friendly than Edwards album cut, with the foreboding original synth bassline and bubbly electronic flourishes being joined by weightier drum hits and bold new melodic motifs which fire "Trans" towards the stratosphere. In contrast, Underground Resistance's revision is fuzzier, wonkier and more hypnotic, albeit with a little disco surprise here and there.

  2. Elevate (acappella) (2:25)
  3. Nasty (6:40)
  4. Elevate (dub mix) (7:09)
Review: SRVD is the new collaboration between Rekids main man Matt Edwards and German art director, illustrator and model Patrick Mason. The pair supposedly met on Berlin's club scene, which led to a gradual form of collaboration - hanging out at the studio later evolved into improvised performances in their fair city and beyond. Their first single "Elevate" perfectly captures the raw spirit and vibe of their live show, which they recently premiered at the infamous Panorama Bar. A chugging, moody and heads-down affair for the back room, plus the hyperactive/bombastic jack of "Nasty" which features another arresting vocal delivery by Mason.
