Transit
Review: It's always refreshing to hear techno where you know the producer has gone into the studio with the attitude of "I don't give a fuck". That seems to be exactly the case with EMG's Point Of View EP on Relative - the labels ninth release. The title track says it all as a fuzzed out bassline and electronic drones rise like a toxic river only to subside. "House Ride" employs an assortment of cut up vocals and lo-fi field recordings before giving way to an italo synth line. "Euryhmic" jumps back on the industrial tip as hissing pistons and warehouse reverb freely wander around a structured four-four beat. Repetitive loops are arranged effectively in "Transit" for a convoluted piece of beat down house.

The Live Experience
A Bit Of Jazz
Rollin'
Review: Relative number five arrives with the ever excellently named John Swing at the helm for his first solo endeavour, delivering three diverse tracks that will delight all you Livejam freaks. Head straight for the A Side "The Live Experience", a rough analogue jackathon that's prepped with the best break since Bakey USTL's schizoid "A Tender Place". As you'd expect "A Bit Of Jazz" is built around a horn sample, but it resides deep in the mix, sounds kind of desperate and is engulfed by crisp 808 rhythms and off kilter vocal harmonies. Switching up the approach again, "Rollin" twists inside out as it progresses, commencing with a huge throbbing bass drum which constantly trades places in front of your face with an expansive rattling rhythmic rollercoaster of percussion - epic techno sounds!

Acid Choice
At The Warehouse
Review: Yes! John Swing and EMG re-engage on the Vinalog project with perhaps the finest Relative transmission to date. There are definite elements of chaos at play on lead cut "Truck" which staggers unrelentingly forward, powered by a growling bassline and rugged, staggering drums before a hellish array of ghostly voices mesh together and send the production into meltdown in a manner that will appeal greatly to Blawan. Alongside it "Sediments" feels caked in dirt from the off, with scraggly white noise trying to drag the thumping beat beneath but failing as an army of extra drums appear and crush your senses. Cruddy lysergic elements ripple menacingly in the lower reaches of the "Acid Choice" tool whilst "At The Warehouse" is a suitably industrial sounding exercise in groggy techno replete with slurred vocal samples.
