  1. Que Locos (6:58)
  2. Baby Girl (7:06)
  3. Sunday Palaver (6:12)
  4. Bottle Rocket (6:27)
Review: The latest release on admirable Detroit institution Rocksteady Disco comes from Eddie Logix, a producer who has been around the fringes of the Motor City scene for some time. There's much to admire on his label debut, from the tasty Latin horns and tropical house grooves of opener "Que Locos", to the skewed drums, dub disco bass and Steely Dan style guitar solos of superb closing cut "Bottle Rocket". Sandwiched in between you'll find two similarly tasty slabs: the delay-laden Latin jazz-house headiness of "Sunday Palaver" and the more electronic sounding deep house goodness of "Baby Girl".

Genes (7")
Cat: RSDSE 04. Rel: 22 Apr 20
  1. Genes (Loose Fit) (5:06)
  2. Space Conductor (5:22)
Review: After 3 months holed up in the studio Blair French has emerged to bring you Genes / Space Conductor 7" in support of his forthcoming album The Art Of Us on Rocksteady Disco. The A-side holds the "Loose Fit" mix of "Genes", where Blair channels his inner Tony Allen for an expertly executed modern psychedelic Afrobeat cut featuring a heavyweight cast of Detroit characters including Todd Modes, John Arnold, and Paul Randolph. On the flip is "Space Conductor", a cosmic afro broken beat joint with heavy drums, a huge bassline, kora, and Blair's vocals, exclusively available on this 7" only. Housed in a full color jacket, cut loud to lacquer, and pressed heavy with pride at Archer on Detroit's east side.

  14. River Crossing (5:13)
Review: The Art Of Us (TAOU) begins with the story of Blair French, a cosmic messenger raised in a house of 7 on the outskirts of a historic city. From dancing at mom's disco parties at a young age, to releasing rap tapes in middle school, winning best soundtrack for the multi-award-winning film DETROPIA and hitting the Billboard charts with his Pure Sounds of Michigan compilation; ultimately French found a home in the world of all things Detroit, Pan-African, Balearic, and ambient. TAOU is his first instrumental LP under his own name, (despite a 25 year career), bringing together his closest musical compatriots.

Cat: RSD 004. Rel: 09 Sep 16
  1. Ice Accountant (Egyptian Love remix) (5:47)
  2. Ice Accountant (Pontchartrain remix) (6:05)
  3. Ice Accountant (Table Daddy remix) (7:01)
  4. Ice Accountant (2:33)
  5. Cloud Nine (2:20)
Review: Brand new Detroit duo Man VS Indian Man comprises Ian Finkelstein and Even Haywood. Complementing each other's strengths, the pair make the perfect match as they pour out thick viscously barbed future soul in thick gooey doses; both "Ice Accountant" and "Cloud Nine" are wrapped in foggy layers of sleepy textures as the falsetto vocals and lean instrumentation cut through with dreamy delight. Remixes from the legendary Egyptian Lover (cosmic electro), fellow Detroitian Pontchartain (filtered disco house) and Brazilian Table Daddy (lolloping dream tech).

ABC Versions EP (limited hand-stamped 12")
Cat: RSD 020. Rel: 16 Jun 21
  1. Drum Song (Mr PC Mystic Rhythm edit) (7:07)
  2. Circo Marimbondo (Blair French Belle Isle Balearic rework) (6:01)
  3. Groove Me (Son Of Lee Sunday Sleaze edit) (8:40)
  4. What's Going On (Island Times acoustic remix) (4:03)
Review: Just in time for Pandemic Summer #2 comes the beach and poolside flavors of ABC Versions (Afro, Balearic, Cosmic) on Rocksteady Disco. For this hand-stamped white label Rocksteady Disco assembles a crew of deep diggers. While these reimaginings harken back to the golden era of dances on the shores of Lake Garda, the White Isle, or all-night bath houses, it's hardly a retrospective. Leading the release is label boss Mr. PC's edit of "Drum Song", a kalimba-driven ecstatic freakout for discerning dance floors. Next up is Blair French's flip of a classic MPB joint "Circo Marimbondo", beefed up and primed for your next poolside hangout. Moving to the flip side, Son of Lee delivers with his meditative and transcendent rework of "Groove Me". Island Times closes the release with his blissed out acoustic edit of "What's Going On", which made its debut in Belle Isle Balearic's The Chillout Tent set in June 2020, with police helicopters flying overhead. TIP.

  1. Pontchartrain - "Afterlife" (4:39)
  2. Blair French - "Pool" (6:00)
Review: It was Memorial Day Weekend 2016, and the sun shined bright over the Detroit River. Pontchartrain stepped up to the decks at the Red Bull stage at Movement Electronic Music Festival donning his infamous "Detroit vs. Itself" t-shirt. His first song through the Rane rotary mixer was a dubplate made specifically for his set: "Afterlife". It's a brilliantly executed balearic daytime disco rework that warrants the praise of summer anthem that it's earning. On the flip is "Pool", an equally sunny slomo beatdown rework from Blair French. It's a delightful blend of cerebral and soulful, and is finally getting a release after being originally championed by Peter Croce on his Le Mellotron Paris set back in early 2018.

  5. Every Time You Move (feat Amma Whatt - Chantapella) (2:58)
Review: From an early appearance on G.A.M.M. to more recently gracing Soul Clap Records, Afrobeat-inspired outfit Sol Power All-Stars have a warm, uplifting sound which is true to their name. Now they land on Rocksteady Disco with an EP that will leap out of your speakers and get you dancing before the first bar is up. Featuring contributions from players and signers such as Amma Whatt, Frank Martins, Scott Baylis, Max Grunhard and Besufekad Tadesse, the troupe romp their way through jubilant, big-band tracks, with a little club nous edged into the B side versions for those wanting to get busy in the mix.
