Review: Berlin-based producer and DJ Barker has long been an underground innovator associated with plenty of vital labels but he hasn't dropped a new solo EP for a couple of years now. Thankfully he rights that wrong and and steps up to the 30 year strong Smalltown Supersound out of Oslo with a new four track offering that "sees him inverting the musical equation and exploring both the variability and sonic possibilities of a kick-drum." Opener 'Birmingham Screwdriver' will rewire your brain with its fizzing frequencies and skewed bass, 'Wick and Wax' is bright and hyperactive techno-pop and the flipside gets much more raw and dark. A fine return.

Here the Berghain resident explores what he says is "the variability and sonic possibilities of the kick-drum." The EP kicks off with the acid-laced first single 'Birmingham Screwdriver' which is a fine introduction to what is a fine EP. Review: Since debuting in 2015, Yoshinori Hayashi has peddled his wares on a variety of labels, Jheri Tracks, Disco Halal and and Smalltown Supersound included. Here he returns to the latter label with a pleasingly heavy four-tracker. Opener "U" is an intergalactic electro workout laden with nasty, deep bass and glacial electronics, while "Cs" is a wonderfully lo-fi take on acid house that jacks harder than DJ Pierre after 24 cans of Red Bull. Over on the flip he layers ghostly vocal snippets, alien chords and rich bass over another jacking drum track on "I", before dropping some filthy analogue techno science on the sparse, spaced-out pulse of "Sr".

Review: Here's something of a novelty: alternative versions of alternative versions. As a partner to their deliciously dubby Versions LP - in which they reworked their own back catalogue - the Idjut Boys has decided to release a trio of new versions of their remixes. First up is "Kenny Dub Headband", a shorter, edited and re-dubbed rework of their freeform dub disco re-imagining of classic Kenny Hawkes' tribute "One For Kenny". While "Le Wesuk (Repress)" bears a striking similarity to the Versions album mix, the same can't be said for the flipside "Long LP Dub" of the same track. Utilising all of the weaponry in their stoner arsenal - bongo-laden rhythms, heavy additional percussion, jangling flashes of acoustic guitar, reverb and several tons of delay - the duo stretches the track out to 14 mesmerizing minutes.

Review: If you want to make a certain type of DJ go weak at the knees, just point them in the direction of this 12", which features new takes on classic Idjut Boys material from Norwegian disco royalty Prins Thomas and Bjorn Torske. The former kicks things off, delivering one of his strongest reworks for some time - an epic combination of strutting, UK funky-influenced disco percussion, swirling electronics, dub effects and woozy vocals. It's Torske, though, who steals the show, re-casting Dan and Conrad's Kenny Hawkes' tribute - "One For Kenny" - as a sublime chunk of rolling samba-jazz. While Thomas's mix is good, Torske's effort is borderline mind-blowing.

Review: Ah bon, a round of applause to Smalltown Supersound for thinking outside the box and getting some interesting producers from other stylistic realms to remix tracks from the Lindstrom LP Six Cups Of Rebels as opposed to identikit disco refixes. This twelve inch holding remixes from OPN, Mark McGuire and Ariel Pink is a nice accompaniment to the also-released-this-week drop featuring Owen Pallett and Rub N Tug revisions, and the Pitchfork friendly rabble do themselves proud here. Ahead of his new LP Mature Themes, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti comes through with a typically out there take on "Call Me Any Time" which veers from moments of chamber like avant gardism to twisted lo fi jack with little prior warning. The same track is given the OPN drone treatment, while Mark McGuire provides some floor led respite with a brutish, delay ridden psyche rock rendition of "Dave Ja Vu".

Review: Lindstrom and Todd Terje are currently duking it out for title of "busiest Norse disco deity of 2012" and this latest release on Smalltown Supersound ensures the duo are level pegging as the year slips towards its close. Lindstrom is preparing to unleash his second LP of 2012 in the shape of the Terje assisted Smalhans - due out in November on Smalltown - and Terje extends two of the album's tracks as an exercise in high octane appetite whetting. Both "Ra-Ako-St" and "Ed-Ged-Osis" are typical Lindstrom; delightfully melodic, with an air of space disco pomposity, propelled forwards by the sort of dynamic, arpeggiated synthesizer lines that have become his trademark For the record, it's the rush-inducing "Ed-Ged-Osis" that impresses most - it's well Scandolearic, in case you wondered.

Review: The words Terje and Lindstrom have been appearing together so much recently you'd think the Norse duo would be sick of each other. Evidently not! Their recent Olsen gem "Lanzarote" preceded plans the pair have to tour festival with a special hardware set over the summer months. Before that, Toddney digs back into Lindstrom's food themed Smalhans LP from last year for three more of his trademark dancefloor edits. Infectious from the off, Terje's edit of "Vos-Sako-Rv" greedily hogs the A Side, offering a tweaked take on that hummed vocal lead which nestles snugly in your cerebral cortex by the time the run out groove arrives. A subtle adjustment to the already sublime "Faar-I-Kaal" sits on the flip, keeping a Terje dub of "Vos-Sako-Rv" company.

Review: "Quiet Place To Live" is taken from Lindstrom's recent Smalltown Supersound released album, Six Cups Of Rebel and is presented here in both an extended version by the Norwegian himself as well as a remix from the legendary Todd Rundgren. Briefly sounding like a cock rock cover version of the theme song from Red Dwarf, Lindstrom's extended version swiftly settles into a decidedly oddball pumping disco refrain before getting engulfed by a huge, glistening synth line that aims the track towards the heavens. Credited numerous times for his influence on Lindstrom's sound, Todd Rundgren owns this release with what is purportedly his first ever remix for another artist and reveals a distinct talent for slap bass heavy disco-rock odysseys that reach towards infinity without sounding tired.
