Tron Caligula Marathon Man (The Remixes)
Cat: SYST 00133. Rel: 01 Aug 22

Tron (Raxon remix) (5:42)
Caligula (Fedele remix) (7:31)
Tron (Mathew Jonson´s VCA dub) (8:53)
Tron (Elax Remi) (6:21)
Marathon Man (Hannes Bieger remix) (7:38)
Review: A first-time remix LP of Stephan Bodzin's Systematic classic album - 'Tron Caligula Marathon Man' - containing stellar new reworkings of the tunes made between the years 2005 and 2006. Raxon (Ellum, Kompakt), Mathew Jonson (Wagon Repair, M_nus), Elax, Fedele (Ex-Agents Of Time) and Hannes Bieger all make appearances, lending gloomy and gargantuan extra credence to a time-honoured techno masterpiece.

The Alchemist (Marc Romboy remix)
The Alchemist (remastered)
Review: Legends Stephan Bodzin and Marc Romboy come through for a surprise collab and rerub of their 2006 'vs' track 'The Alchemist'. Now apparently no longer at odds with one another - indeed, the rarely-used vs format implies a rivalry or playful opposition - we're now thrust into a more conventional mode of reinterpretation by way of the remix. In contrast to the original tech house tune's striking minimality and snappiness, Romboy's A-sided remix takes our familiarity with the original number as a given, eschewing the earlier feel for a much roomier, more cavernous and contemporarily "slick" sound. Luckily, we're also met with a remastered version of the OG version, with which we may compare and contrast the new iteration with the old's prodding 808 snares and cerebral, glottal 'yows'.

Sekater (8:08)
Sekater (Audiojack remix) (5:48)
Sekater (2022 Revisited) (7:14)
Review: Marseille based Rafael Cerato is known for his emotional techno sound that has been heard on top labels like Diynamic Music, Stil Vor Talent, and his very own Ritual. He's also become quite the staple on Marc Romboy's Systematic Recordings, which back in 2015 released his anthemic 'Sekater', a sublime expression in dancefloor drama which still sounds as good today. There's a 2022 Revisited version featured on here which is optimised for today's dancefloor, while the remix by Gruuv head honchos Audiojack over on the flip goes for a bouncy tech house rework.

Midi Waters
Review: Extrawelt's debut on Marc Romboy's Systematic Recordings is a powerhouse of driving techno. The title track takes listeners on a futuristic journey, its cinematic quality fueling the imagination forward. Arne and Wayan, known for their work on Cocoon, Kompakt/Speicher, and Border Community, exhibit their expertise in blending techno with intricate arrangements and rich harmonies. 'Riverrun' captivates with its dynamic bassline and unique sound palette as music architects. On the flip side, 'Midi Waters' delves into a darker, deeper soundscape, offering a dystopian narrative that will resonate with Detroit Techno enthusiasts. Both tracks on this release exemplify Extrawelt's ability to create catchy electronic music. Dive into this unique two-tracker and experience their sonic world firsthand.

Review: Marc Romboy is a techno titan who has been serving up the goods seemingly forever. Much of it has come on his own Systematic label which is where he has commissioned this series of remixes of Music Made For Aliens. The double album is packed with new school inventions starting with Toto Chiavetta's remix of 'Intelligence' which is the sort of patient, emotive main room cut to make a devastating impact. Elsewhere the likes of Bawrut remixes 'Blanc Triangles' into a slithering and brightly coloured synth workout and An On Bast remixes 'All Worlds, All Times' into a gritty and heads-down stomper. Josh Wink shuts down with his usual style amongst many other highlights.

I Am A Dancer (Marc Romboy & Sinisa Tamamovic mix) (6:55)
I Am A Dancer (Skatman remix) (7:04)
I Am A Dancer (Dense & Pika remix) (5:58)
Review: The already well-travelled 'I Am a Dancer' cut that was originally produced by Marc Romboy and C.A.R. and debuted on Kompakt's acclaimed Total 21 album now undergoes some vibrant transformations with three new mixes. Marc Romboy & Sinisa Tamamovic goes first and make it into a steamy, weighty but deep and pulsing track that drips with sweat and lust. The Skatman remix is much more for the big room with its grinding low ends and epic breakdowns and Dense & Pika then bring some unstoppable and rolling waves of techno power to their version. Cheers.

Atlas (Shall Ocin & Artbat remix) (6:20)
Review: Marc Romboy and Stephan Bodzin make for one of the most celebrated duos in techno. Here their 'Atlas' tune gets a remix from Ukrainian duo Artbat & Shall Orin on Systematic. They're artists at the heart of the modern melodic techno movement. Their remix here is a one-sided 12" that is designed for the main room. The percussive energy and sweeping synths build and build over the driving, rubbery beats. Its serene, well-designed, and a surefire standout cut that will get hands in the air on plenty of the world's biggest stages.

Die Zeit (7:18)
Die Zeit (Synthapella) (6:24)
Review: Names don't get much more titanic when it comes to techno than old school German dons Timo Maas and Marc Romboy. They join their considerable skills for a new single here which is the first of a few to come. 'Die Zeit' does everything you would expect a track from this pair to do - it has the powerful linear drums, the rumbling bass lines and the epic synth craft that lights up a vast sky above. It's a tense rollercoaster with a grand ambition and lasting impact. A Synthapella is also included on the flip for even more of that melodic intensity.

Der Rhythmus
Der Rhythmus (Dense & Pika remix)
Review: Six months after their first collaborative outing 'Die Zeit' in May - also on thyme Systematic label - two bonafide German techno titans have been busy in the studio once more. This time they offer up 'Der Rhythmus' on limited edition splattered vinyl and it is another timeless, terrific and peak time cut. The drums and snares are snappy as you like with distorted bass down low and suspensory arps keeping you on edge as a libidinous female vocal adds the final touches. UK duo Dense & Pika remix with a more stripped-back but not less slamming sound.

Thodoris Triantafillou - "Aliens"
Invoker - "Ghost In The Machine"

Kiberu - "Your Eyes"
Marc Romboy & Oniris - "Panta Rhei"
Nicolas Masseyeff - "Levante"
Captain Mustache - "Solar Noodles"
Satoshi Fumi - "Crystalline"
Review: Techno mainstay Marc Romboy has always made sounds that betray his love of space. He recently made that more explicit that ever with the start of a new compilation series titled Music From Space and after a fine first volume comes a second, called Dimension B. It features the music he has used to open his latest podcast and radio shows series, eight tracks in all from artists such as Thodoris Triantafillou, Til Fussman, Nicolas Masseyeff and Romboy himself. There is plenty to love her from sleek and serene outings from Captain Mustache to Kiberu's lush 'Your Eyes.'
