Tascam's DP-32SD Digital Portastudio records an unmatched 32 tracks to solid-state media. Up to eight tracks can be recorded at a time through its combination XLR and 1/4" combo jacks. Input processing like compression and limiting are available during recording, as well as guitar amp simulation and multi-effects for use with the instrument-level input. A color LCD and channel strip knobs make mixing fast and creative. With its great sound, powerful features and easy operation, the DP-32SD is Tascam's biggest Portastudio yet.

The DP-32 has 12 selectable tracks between MONO or STEREO. Use a STEREO track for recording synthesizer, or set the track to MONO when recording guitar or vocal. Not only that, you can create ideal settings for each track. (set #9 to #12 STEREO, then set #13 to #22 MONO) If all tracks are set to MONO the DP-32 becomes a 20-track multi track recorder.

The DP-32, even with the high number of tracks, is one of the easiest multi-track recorders in the market to use. The The DP-32SD has 20 track-faders and one master fader. You can control any track with ease.

The DP-32SD has a 3.5" LCD screen and select self-illuminated buttons, making it easy to view your entire creative process. Some of the illuminated buttons include (SOURCE, SELECT, REC, MUTE).

The DP-24/32 have similarly employed rotary knobs to control qualities such as EQ, Effect Send and other related features.

The DP-32SD uses SD/SDHC media. These cards provide secure shock resistance due to the absence of any moving parts. The file format in the DP-32SD is FAT 16 or 32. You can transfer the recorded files to your computer via USB.

When working on location, decisions must be made quickly and efficiently, and an intuitive and consistent User Interface is critical. The TM-280 is the top model in the Tascam microphone series offering rich, warm and bright sound with a low noise level. Its wide frequency response with a slightly enhanced high end is ideal for precise and smooth reproduction of vocals, acoustic string instruments, wind instruments and other sound sources in your home or project studio.

A switchable low-cut filter allows you to add clarity by reducing the amount of unwanted low-frequency sounds or to compensate for the proximity effect in close miking. There is also a switchable level attenuation that reduces the risk of distortion caused by excessively loud sounds. And the cardioid directivity pattern enables the TM-280 to pick up the intended source while rejecting off-axis sounds.

The TM-280 is a condenser microphone opposed to dynamic microphones which are usually being used in live performances. Unlike dynamic mics, a condenser mic does not need a relatively heavy magnet and voice coil to convert acoustic waves into electrical signals. Instead, it uses a diaphragm coupled to an electrical condenser where vibrations are converted to changes in capacitance, realising a lightweight structure that helps to create a wider and smoother frequency response. To derive a signal from the changes in capacitance, electrical power is required.

Condenser microphones are largely divided into two categories according to the size of diaphragm. While small-diaphragm mics are more robust and have a very even frequency response, large-diaphragm mics are known for low noise, they have higher sensitivity and can handle higher sound pressure levels. Large-diaphragm microphones are often used for vocals as they can help to create a distinctive sound due to their warm colouration.

With its 34-mm gold-plated diaphragm, the TM-280 offers the typical warm and bright sound of large-diaphragm microphones with a smoothly increased high-end presence.

Tascam TM-280 The polar pattern of a microphone shows how well the mic picks up the sound from different directions (directivity). The TM-280 has a unidirectional, or cardioid, pattern. This type of directivity is ideal for vocals and other single sound sources because it mainly picks up the sound from the front and reduces off-axis sounds from the sides and rear.

The circuit in the TM-280 is made of selected discrete electronic components that lead to an overall signal-to-noise ratio of 80 dB. When connected to a Tascam HDDA mic preamp (as used in the US-2x2/US-4x4), for instance, this means you can turn up the input gain and still have a low noise level even when you're not singing or playing.

The TM-280 is equipped with a switchable low-cut filter and a second switch to reduce the microphone's sensitivity. Use the low-cut filter (also called high-pass filter) to add clarity to your sound by reducing the amount of low frequencies. When you're close to the mic while singing or speaking, for instance, your voice may sound too rich due to the so-called proximity effect. Using the low-cut filter can compensate part of that effect. When recording very loud sounds like brass instruments or very powerful voices, you can set the level attenuation switch to -10 dB to avoid distortion.

Since a large-diaphragm microphone is sensitive against structure-borne noise, the TM-280 comes with a professional suspension shockmount that holds the mic while minimising vibrations from the mic stand. Also included is a pop filter that reduces plosives when recording vocals. The filter can be attached to the suspension. And not least, a sturdy flight case allows you to safely carry your mic set to a different location.

TM-DRUMS is a set of four microphones tailored for getting a good drum sound with ease using a Tascam multi-track recorder or audio interface with DAW software. Especially designed for beginners who cannot afford separate mics for each and every part of the drum kit, this mic set meets the minimum requirements for multi-microphone recordings and can even be handled by people who are not yet so familiar with creating a good sounding mix with many sources.

TM-DRUMS comprises of one dynamic mic designed for the bass or kick drum, another dynamic mic designed for the snare, and two condenser mics that can be used for hi-hat, toms and cymbals. Each of the three mic types has its own special characteristics to enhance the instrument it was made for.

The TM-50DB's frequency response delivers a thick bass thump with the right amount of punch, while the TM-50DS enhances the special character of the snare drum with attack and clarity. The TM-50C microphone can be used as an overhead microphone to capture the sound of your hi-hat and cymbals. As a condenser microphone, it handles high sound pressure levels and captures a wide frequency range. Since there are two of these in the set, you can also use that pair to easily create a stereo recording of the entire drum kit, supported by the two mics for kick and snare drum.

Creating a great-sounding drum sound is not hard to accomplish. With two overhead microphones and separate mics for the kick drum and snare drum, you'll get a wide stereo image with clear highs. Start with the overheads and try out different positions until you find that toms, cymbals and hi-hat build a balanced base sound. Then, add a thick kick drum and a well-defined snare drum to that base sound with their separate mics.

If a clear hi-hat is important to your music, you can emphasize it by placing one of the TM-50C over the hi-hat and use the second TM-50C as overhead on the other end of your drum kit. By going this way, you will have more influence on the basic instruments: kick, snare, and hi-hat. You will certainly find a good position for the overhead mic where it can capture the rest of your kit. This approach does not deliver a stereo image like with two overheads but it still gives you some amount of width when panning the hi-hat to one side and the overhead to the other side.
