Review: It's amazing to think that Jay Daniel is still only 25. Since making his debut five years ago, the producer has been responsible for some of the finest house music to emerge from Detroit in recent times. Interestingly, he's slightly modified his woozy and gently soul-flecked blueprint on this hotly anticipated debut album. For starters, many of the tracks - standouts "Paradise Valley" and "Knowledge of Selfie" included - feature live drums, played and recorded in his mother's basement. This rhythmic adjustment gives Broken Knowz a far looser and warmer feel than his previous work, in the process elevating his deliciously rich and musical deep house to a whole new level. In other words, it's an impressively assured and entertaining debut album.

Review: Via well received releases on the likes of Ghostly International and Kompakt, Berlin-based Dauwd Al Hilali has spent the last six years releasing increasingly impressive forays into deep house and techno. Given that many of these combined effortless musical warmth and mellow grooves with nods to more experimental electronic fare both old and new (Terry Riley, the Radiophonic Workshop, krautrock, Detroit beatdown etc.), hopes are naturally high for this debut album on Ninja Tune offshoot "Technicolour". Happily, it's exactly the kind of gently melodious and rhythmically persuasive set you'd expect, with his usual rich and hazy workouts being joined by tracks that variously look to ambient music and Theo Parrish for inspiration.

Review: Following turns on labels like Creme Organization, Rvng Intl. and Further Records to Bio Rhythm, Bedouin Records and Sequencias, among many others, it feels like only a matter of time before Jamal Moss has graced pretty much every label worth talking about. Following his Cosmic Bebop ?LP on his own Mathematics Recordings, Moss, under his adored Hieroglyphic Being alias, surfaces on Ninja Tune sub Technicolour. The Disco's Of Imhotep is a bright, distorted and colourful affair which harbours its own trademark, synthetic chimes, kicked off wonderfully with the sweetly tonal number "The Shrine Of The Serpent Goddess". Rather than pulling together tracks at random, the album overall sounds like something that's been crafted as a whole, and while drums and distortion may tear away at speakers cones the world over, it's the melodies of this record, annihilated or otherwise, that really make The Disco's Of Imhotep one of a kind.

Review: Despite attempts to retain his anonymity, the true identity of the "well-known producer" behind the Levantis project is hardly hidden (if you're still unaware, Google is your friend). Why this particular producer felt the need for an alternative alias is open for debate, because there are aspects of Romantic Psychology Vol. 1, the Levantis debut album, that feel similar in ethos, texture and execution to his more familiar pseudonym. In some ways, it's irrelevant, of course. Judged on its' own merits, this is a fine set that offers an instinctive, hugely atmospheric blend of stripped-back ambience, dubbed-out sound design, curious ecclesiastical influences, quiet melodies and glitchy, scratchy electronica.

Review: Celebrated UK producers and DJs O'Flynn and Frazer Ray (who was previously known as Soundbwoy Killah) join forces here for new collaborative album Shimmer on Ninja Tune's Technicolour label. The record pays homage to the UK dance music the pair so loves from speed garage to breaks and hardcore. As such it is a record that takes you to the heart of the dancefloor but also offers a great escape from everyday life with evocative synth soundscapes over compelling beats. As much as there is plenty of physicality here, there is also tenderness of emotion and deftness of design that brings an artful quality to their take on party sounds. Top stuff.

Review: Ninja Tune off-shoot Technicolour has always dealt in interesting in-between sounds from the world of house and techno. Next to investigate that area is Amsterdam-based duo Weval aka Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers. Their new album finds them taking an expansive trip into high energy sounds that are tinged with nostalgia, rich in happy memories and laden with euphoric emotions that will take the dancefloor to a higher place. Part of that energy comes from tapping into the music of their collective youth and their various inspirations which lend this its widescreen sonic palette. Making this all the more appealing for fans is the inclusion of a tidy and autographed insert.
