Review: ex:el is the third studio album by 808 State, originally released on 4 March 1991 by ZTT Records. In contrast to the band's previous work, the album features catchier melodies and heavier acid techno beats and percussion, embracing earlier flirtations with hip-hop and industrial. The album also features the guest vocals of Bernard Sumner of Joy Division and New Order, who sings on 'Spanish Heart' and Bjork, who sings on 'Qmart' and 'Ooops', and is credited with co-writing both. Here is part 2, which continues the gathering of lesser known non-album works. Going into the new millennium at the time, to have sessions tracks like 'For What It's Worth' and 'Communication' are particular exciting to get a feel for the band performance wise without any outside distractions or fans in a live setting. The last side is also very worth of note for the material presented. Closing things on a high note in a row are the brilliant 'Slowdown Town', and 'Give Me Your Eyes' with the powerful 'Slow' as the last song. Review: Alternative rock and Goth legends The Cure were at an all-time high in popularity as they embarked on their 1993 tour across Europe. Enjoying the result of their most successful album Wish, the band was to take on their biggest world tour yet. For the previous two tours, there was no proper full recording of the band live by the group themselves. Robert Smith wanted to change that and a handful of shows were recorded to be edited together for the live albums Paris and Show. Paris shows the power of The Cure's new lineup which featured a new drummer, keyboard player and guitar player. Like most Cure concerts, the setlist is a varied mix of brand-new tracks at the time (Apart and A Letter to Elise) many classics (Figurehead, A Charlotte Sometimes and Shake Dog Shake) but then always a sprinkle of lesser-known ones like 'Dressing Up'. This edition is the 30th Anniversary release of the evergreen original.

The romantic cover with its overtones of balmy nights by the sea, the lo-fi design of it all, but also the slightly kitsch sub-title -The Romantic Guitar Of Amancio D'Silva. The music is just as good thankfully and is now available on vinyl for the first time since it was first released back in 1971. It is a cult fav that has often be listed for well over three hundred quid before now and was released as part of the Lansdowne Series, overseen by the influential Denis Preston, one of the UK's first independent record producers. All the tracks are instrumentals and include pieces by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Hoagy Carmichael.

Review: Sheffield rock royalty Def Leppard build momentous hype for their upcoming tour alongside Journey with the release of their brand new single 'Just Like 73'. Written in collaboration with Rage Against The Machine axeman Tom Morello, the banger comes complete with an absurd music video of computer generated de-aged models of the band and a parachuting Morello making their way to Earl's Court to perform for a massive crowd of adoring fans. Elaborating on the experience, the guitar guru stated - "I had a blast rocking a solo on 'Just Like 73.' I played 'Rock of Ages' in my college cover band almost 40 years ago and here Def Leppard are still killing it in stadiums with a brand-new tune that's one of their best." Pressed on limited 7" wax with an alternative version on the flip, the Leppard evidently still have plenty of sugar in the petrol tank.
