Everlasting (Dorisburg remix) (8:34)
Mecca (7:58)
Review: Sweden's Joel Alter went solo from studio partner Henrik Jonsson and released the brilliant album entitled "Heart" earlier in 2015 and it now gets the remix treatment. Fellow Swede Jesper Dahlback aka The Persuader gives "22 Hours" a deep and tripping remix, but still keeps Luvinsky Atche's powerful vocals intact. More of Alter's homeboys represent, with Genius Of Time's Dorisburg delivering a dark and acidic remix of "Everlasting". An original version from the album appears; "Mecca" is a techno epic reminiscent of Carl Craig with its dark dramatic melody supported by thumping tom drums and suspenseful strings.

Review: To date, the defining characteristic of Uncanny Valley has been their strong focus and support for local Dresden artists, musicians, and producers. The fact their latest album project comes from Joel Alter, the Swedish producer best known for his long running role in the Jonsson / Alter project, should not be understated. However you shouldn't see this as Uncanny Valley forgetting their roots, it's more a statement of their current cachet in the underground. Back to the music; Heart is Alter's debut solo LP and is apparently an album he has been meaning to commit to for some time. Featuring the odd vocal track, it's filled with deep, warm and enveloping house music and feels like one of those classic electronic albums German labels seem to be so good at after you've spent some time with it.

Malstroem
Review: There's something pleasingly calming about this EP from Philpot regular turned Uncanny Valley contributor Sebastian Lohse. While the EP's most impressive moment is arguably the sparse but deliciously melodic "Malstroem" - think starburst electronics, woozy chords and tactile analogue grooves - for the most part Atlantic Ocean is a warm and immersive affair. There's something suitably glassy-eyed about the near Balearic chords and breezy melodies of "Atlantic Ocean Road", while "FM For Life" pairs jaunty, Detroit-influenced bass and rolling rhythms with picturesque melodies. As for the guitar-flecked "Trocadero", you'd be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful deep house track this year.

Varsovie (Eltron John dub)
Cat: UV 015. Rel: 02 May 13

Deep House
Brodka - "Varsovie" (Eltron John dub)
Alex Ketzer - "Falling Off" (Sandrow M remix)
Cuthead - "Splenda Daddy"
Jacob Stoy - "Inspektor"
Review: On this latest transmission from the vale of Dresden, the Uncanny Valley crew have sewn together another four solid cuts of convention-bucking house music to suit more adventurous ears. Brodka comes correct with a heartfelt turn that isn't afraid to embrace vocals within a stripped construction, while Sandrow M's remix of Alex Ketzer opts for a darker tone weighed down by growling bass before turning out some Joy O-style vocal mangling. Cuthead meanwhile is not as concerned with refined production, instead delivering a rugged acid melter that blossoms into a thoroughly jazzed-out affair. Jacob Stoy has his own curious take to bring to the table, working around minimal tones and a simple beat and fleshing the track out with discordant keys that have their own modal message to intone.

Strollin' (Jackmate Reflection mix)

Strollin' Speechless
Review: The gentle buzz around the Uncanny Valley crew continues unabated with the release of the latest transmission from Dresden, courtesy of C-Beams. It's a smooth house number filled with the lush melodics we've come to expect of the plucky Germans. Tina Slotta's vocal comes from a similar place to Kate Rogers of Grand Central fame, allowing the composition to bob along nicely. Jackmate ups the ante somewhat with his hooky ways, dropping a killer stabbing string line which provides some additional edge.

Brio's Theme
Review: Having previously contributed to Uncanny Valley 003 - perhaps our favourite various artists release from Uncanny Valley - Credit 00 becomes the latest artist to step up and deliver a solo EP for the Dresden imprint. Like Cuthead, C Beams and Jacob Korn before him, Credit 00 aka Alexander Dorn revels in the spotlight delivering a quartet of house cuts that reference the Mid West of the US without sounding like clones, embellishing each with his own sense of rhythm and texture. Snapping machine funk deep with layers of analogue detail and flexing acid are apparent from the opening track "Another Me" and tracks like "The Clave Problem" and "The Living Room Life" deftly combine a sense of melodic introspection with the impetus for bodily movement. Long may Dresden provide so fruitful for Uncanny Valley!

TRM (5:51)
Curse Of The Medusa (7:19)
Voodoo Soup (6:04)
Snake Charmer (6:10)
Review: The title of Alexander 'Credit 00' Dorn's latest release does him something of a disservice. While there is no doubt that the Uncanny Valley boss knows how to craft intoxicating rhythms, there is a lot more to his capabilities. "TRM" sees snappy drums and a tracky rhythm underpin swooning deep house synths, while on "Curse of the Medusa", an unnamed woman claims 'I gave you my heart' over hypnotic 90s techno filters. "Voodoo Soup", with its insistent kettle drums and dubbed out percussion, pushes the release towards the tool-style functionality, but as the bleep-heavy "Snake Charmer" demonstrates, it is clear that there is far more to this German producer than linear dance floor rhythms.

Big Wheel (5:17)
Review: After spending time overseeing the rise of Rat Life Records, Alexander Dorn returns to the loving arms of parent label Uncanny Valley to unleash some Party Beats. In practice, that means cheeky - if typically smooth - deep house with a range of dancefloor-friendly additions (the bubbling acid lines and spoken samples of "Big Wheel", for instance, or the cheeky cut-up stabs of "Hiccups"). It's a formula that pays dividends throughout, with the piano-laden, jack-goes-deep shuffle of "THT SHT" and warm, undulating chords - and whistles - of "Bacardi Beach House" standing out. It's all perhaps a little looser and cheerier than we've come to expect from Dorn, but no less enjoyable for that.

Review: With tongue firmly in cheek, Dresden's Robert "Cuthead" Arnold delivers his fifth album, Return Of The Sample Jesus. Like his other full-length outings for hometown label Uncanny Valley, the set joins the dots between his hip-hop beat-making past - he's long been known as a wizard with an MPC - and the hazy, swinging, off-kilter deep house sound he's been exploring over recent years. Able to spot killer samples and work them into fine tracks, Arnold is equally as adept to dropping Dilla-ish beat-scapes, Madlib style jazz workouts, and Moodymann inspired 4/4 grooves. Throw in a sprinkling of smoother, dreamier, bass-heavy cuts, and you've got an entertaining and absorbing LP.

Review: Uncanny Valley's resident beatsmith Cuthead delves even further into his love of low slung grooves with this fulsome album of soulful vignettes that make the perfect hip hop paced partner to the more housey output known on the label. It's not all slow-mo business as "Maputo Jam" attests with its peppy chops and swinging New Jersey funk, and in terms of sample-rich house loaded with imagination it's hard to picture anything sounding quite as heartfelt and captivating as this, but in the slower musings Cuthead shows off his breadth as a producer and comes up smelling of particularly addictive roses. Try listening to the title track and not feeling an immense sense of satisfaction, romance and groove all in one.

Review: Uncanny Valley invite everyone to participate in some local music history with the focus on the past decade's output from one of the label's main artists. Before Robert 'Cuthead' Arnold became part of the Uncanny Valley family, he formed part of Kunst:stoff Breakz, another local collective that threw parties as well as issuing a series of free to download digital releases. Cuthead was responsible for a large majority of this output and Total Sellout sees the artist revisit this archive of material for a self curated retrospective. Some 18 tracks deep, the album really conveys the depth and breadth of Arnold's production capabilities, covering hip hop, dubstep, house music and all the sonic crevices inbetween,

XOXO
Review: CVBox teams up with like mind Micha Freier for a gorgeously seductive deep house release. Favouring an introspective sound, the duo conjure up the kind of fantastically melodic, intricate tracks that are usually the preserve of Detroit producers like Patrice Scott or Keith Worthy. "Blinking Lights" sets the tone wonderfully with its swirling chords and understated drums, while "Bad Gate Way" is underscored with a pulsing electronic bass. It's the most dance floor-focused moment on the release and soon enough, the pair are navigating their way back to more refined sounds courtesy of the subtle percussive ticks of "Playwatch" and the immersive icy ambience of "XOXO".

Drvg Culture - "See You Again Someday"
Review: While the title evokes images of the Uncanny Valley crew getting up to sitcom-style scrapes while bumbling around Germany in a rickety old bus, there's an altogether simpler explanation for the Uncanny Vacation tag. Basically, it's a hook-up between the Dresden label and their pals from Munich's Permanent Vacation imprint, featuring tracks from both camps. Musically, there are plenty of thrills on offer, from the looped deep house-disco of Jacob Korn's "Eieiei" and bodypoppin' electro-meets-classic Italo of DMX Krew's "Astro Logical", to the woozy, almost Balearic analogue deep house of Drvg Culture's winding "See You Again Someday". It's as off-kilter but on-point as you'd expect. We'd still think the bus trip idea is a goer, mind.

Review: Four tracks of quality deep house moments from Uncanny Valley, a new imprint from Dresden. Thomas Froehlich lays some emotive strings across a backdrop of searching filtered synths and jacking kicks, whilst Jacob Korn melds a claustrophobic crunch to a superb electro jazz melody. On the flip the mellow filtered bump of Cuthead's track is overshadowed by the brilliance of the title "Unacceptable Moustache Styles".

Review: Dresden's Uncanny Valley returns with more feelgood deep house vibes courtesy of the usual suspects. Berlin's Max Graef steps up first with "Tittenkuschler" and his typically dusty, hip hop influenced style of production. Next up the man Cuthead returns in typical form with the uplifting and summery vibes "Braziliance' and the smooth, blunted hip-hop of "Of Of'. Next up Theuz Hamtag and Magergarten gives us some sweet discofied jams in the vein of Classic Andres with "S3A and "Moony Me" respectively. Quality as always from this now highly regarded label.

Once Love
She (Iron Curtis Greenview Ave mix)
She (John Talabot Screamix)
Review: Jacob Korn's first solo release for Uncanny Valley is amongst his best work to date. "She" takes a satisfyingly detailed and musically complex approach to deep house. While it boasts some notable hooks - like the best dancefloor music - the production is far more intricate and densely layered than your average Germanic deep house cut. "Once Love" repeats the trick, building from a dark and atmospheric opening into something almost blindingly bright. By the time it drops into a snappy mix of drunken horns and quietly uplifting melodies, you'll be lost in its delightfully woozy, undulating groove. To compliment Korn's superb originals, there are two remixes of "She". Iron Curtis is up first, turning the intricate original into a delightfully melancholic slab of tear-jerking warm-up house. John Talabot rounds off the package with an excellent interpretation of his own, that strips back the crowded original before building into an intoxicating late night stew of spiralling organs, heady melodies and spooky stabs.

Thru The Eye (5:19)
Review: Dresden native Jacob Korn has clearly decided that quality is preferable to quantity. Since 2014, he's really cut back on the number of EPs he's put out, with this simply titled four-tracker being his first release of any description for 18 months. Predictably, he barely puts a foot wrong, moving from the chunky grooves, alien melodies, dusty musical touches and pulsing loops of "The Happening", to the low-slung, disco-flecked mid-tempo deep house bump of "Thru The Eye". Along the way, pay close attention to the choppy, post-Soundstream edit-house swing of "Holiday", and the soaring, near-symphonic disco-house heaviness of "Goodbye", which is arguably the EP's most bombastic moment.

Kokosnuss
Review: Jacob Korn may have made his name on Uncanny Valley, but the Dresden producer has not put out anything on the imprint - or any other, for that matter - since 2012. This, then, is a welcome return. Pleasingly, it's also something of a belter, with Korn offering a range of distinctive takes on house music. For example, opener "Eisladen" fuses highlife guitars and a bleep-heavy breakdown with a surging drum machine groove, while "Arzt im Praktikum" sounds like Mr Oizo jamming with Liquid Liquid. "Fahrt durch Tal" - featuring a brilliant disco bassline from Phillip Oertel - saunters off on a deep space disco tip, before Korn once again doffs a cap to Africa with "Kokonuss", a blissfully sweet and thrillingly eccentric fusion of wide-eyed marimba melodies, warped electronics and loose drum machine beats.

Review: The most lauded artist from the Dresden collective Uncanny Valley, Jacob Korn has earned himself a widespread reputation for his satisfyingly detailed and musically complex approach to deep house. His eagerly awaited debut album You & Me sees the producer take a unique approach, collaborating with a different artist on each track, and if anything, the effect of his fine musicianship is only enhanced, from the sublime Balearic tones of opener "The Place", through the dubby organs and crisp percussion of "Friction", the woozy rhodes melody of "The Drifter". As well as the deeper cuts, Korn isn't averse to some good time party jams - see the San Soda collaboration "Punta Del Este" with its bumping piano riff and the choppy, disco-leaning Cuthead collaboration "Makin' Love" for proof of that. Quite possibly the house album of the year.
