Review: 'Legend' is the only word to describe Finland's Pekka Airaksinen, and the same goes for the vast amount of music that he's put out since the early 1970's - 'legendary'. Thankfully, plenty of his most sought after LP's are being reissued, as of late, but the present Afrodipankara has never before seen the light of day. Conceived in a spiritual haze back in 1984, Vinyl On Demand have now out it out for the first time ever, and it sounds like it could have been made yesterday. The four tracks span everything from industrial to coldwave and free-jazz, all expertly garnished in Airaksinen's inimitable Eastern flair. Wonky slices of percussion, mystical synth twists, exotic sonics and, well, simply out there! Be quick, there's only 200 of them.

Their sounds mix up melancholy electronic music and bouncy synth-pop a la early Depeche Mode and have never before been on vinyl. This album, Tape Works 1986-1993, collects those early full-length demos together and offers them up on a nice limited edition vinyl. Each of the three slabs of wax features one of those three early tapes but now all are restored and remastered so they sound better than ever.

Review: Three collaborative albums by The Hafler Trio and Autechre - ae.o & h.ae (2003), aeo. & .hae (2005) and ah.eo & ha.oe (2011) - were released one after the other over a rather long period and despite their intention as a comprehensive trinity, came out first via separate labels. It was as good a collab back then as it is now: we all may know Autechre, but Hafler Trio by comparison was a neat audiovisual counterpart to the former's gyratory mayhem music, erring more on the side of multimedia. Together, their music provides a raucous blend of abstract, ambient, drone and experimental music, with minimal and complex soundscapes, long silences and wild dynamic variation. all adding up to something rather. This comp brings all three LPs together, limiting the culmination to just 500 copies.

Review: A record entitled 'Insane 80s Tracks From The Insane Label' was never going to be boring. Talk about living up to the name, Insane Music means an experimental cassette label from Belgium, managed by Alain Neffe and founded in 1981. He makes music as I Scream, and to put that into wider context his two tracks on this vinyl excursion are harsh distortions with distant bumbling rhythms, and relentless rolls of acid warble and snares the likes of which techno would kill for. That's far from that, though. Review: Richard Bone is a certified new wave king. Throughout the 1980's and through to the present day, the guy has released countless EP's and LP's which span from synth-pop to post-punk, all with a touch of industrial madness. The relentless Vinyl On Demand have put together some of his best and most pioneering work from the early 1980's in a 3X LP set with an extra tasty 7" thrown in for good measure. There's almost fifty tracks in this leviathan of a compilation, and all of them being Bone's most seminal work. The classics have to be "Alien Girl" for that bassline and those quirky vocals, and also the "Porn Soundtrack" series for the comic effect. Seriously, if you didn't know about this guy, check it because this is electronic music at its funniest and most singular. The originals are pretty pricey to boot!

Review: In many ways the four tracks making up this release represent a micro-quadrilogy, or at least quartet of chapters that tell some of the story behind Clock DVA. A Sheffield-born industrial, post-punk and EBM band formed in 1978, which has gone through a number of iterations through to present day, while that description might imply intense drums and aggressive pacing, the reality is something very different. Nevertheless, the complex waves of grainy noise, sparse ambient moments and closing space-age keyboard and distorted public announcement arrangement reflect some of the most defining aspects of those genres. Beauty hidden beneath something coarse, unrefined and even abrasive surface clatter, the importance of silence as much as sound itself and an inherent desire not to conform, but instead break down barriers.

Review: Wow. Germany's Vinyl on Demand are on a roll in recent months, thanks to a string of valuable reissues and mouth-watering special editions, such as this latest juggernaut from legendary industrial band, Clock DVA. In case you weren't aware, the outfit were a Sheffield-based post-punk band who later branched out into early forms of techno and the like, but this anthology actually predates those years and takes a look back at the band's formations. Inside, you'll find a collection of recordings by Adi Newton made between 1976 and 1977, and also the Future recordings, the trio made up of Newton, Martyn Ware and Craig Marsh before they developed into Clock DVA. FYI Future pretty much invented synth-pop, it begins and possibly even ends with these guys. This is an essential piece of vinyl.
