The Core
The Prey
Review: While the cover artwork may make Benton look like a moody former member of an R&B boy band, the music contained on Reflections is as robustly underground as you'd expect. Moving from Burial-ish paranoid atmospherics to deep dubstep-soul via a series of sparse, moody and emotion-rich soundscapes, it portrays the London-based producer as a man for whom the simple pleasures of form and function are just not enough. Along the way, there are growling, murky floorfillers (check the hissing "Herman's Hideout" and "Defect Mind"), dubwise steppers ("20/20 VIP") and occasional blasts of piano-laden beauty (the intricate "We're Both Lost").

Zardoz
Review: N Type's Wheel & Deal camp finally, finally drop Benton's killer "20/20"! The cinematic creeper has been racking up views on YouTube since the turn of 2011, and it's not hard to see why the clamour for release is there. Steadily building from its misty beginnings "20/20" excels at subtly combining stripped down steppah riddims with cavernous bass with sly ripples of spectral utterings and scraping echoed synth lines. The flip borrows more than the title from the mid 70s Connery classic Zardoz, lifting the iconic speech from the godlike figurehead central to the film and dropping it amidst a perma snapping purple tinged half step face screwer!

Catnip (5:05)
1645% (4:11)
Trim (4:40)
Same Area (3:58)
Review: Canadian producer Conducts lands on Wheel & Deal Records with a fierce four track EP that lays bare his devastating style. The rich sound designs are paired with floor-destroying bass and for that reason this one has already been getting big drops from the likes of N-Type, Hatcha and Muhla. 'Trim' in particular has a killer low end that tumbles down the scale with oscillations so fuzzy they melt your whole body. 'Same Area' is a more textural and muscular workout and '1645%' keeps it street level and late night.

Dirty Dubstep/Trap/Grime
Flux Pavilion - "Meathead"
J Sweet - "Bass Abuse"
Review: Out on N-Type's Wheel & Deal label, two futuristic takes on dubstep that really push boundaries and go out on a limb with devastating effect. Flux Pavilion's "Meathead" is a dirty mash-up of filtered distortion and space launch sound effects that juggles rhythms between a slow, almost Skwee-like half-step and an uptempo, synth-laden stomp. J Sweet's "Bass Abuse" is another smart and sophisticated dose of razor sharp snares and some classic sinewave synth sounds.

Muharib Skank (3:27)
Affecktion (3:13)
Moody Marge (3:14)
MS20 Skank (3:04)
Review: HYPHO's debut on the Wheel & Deal Records label is as darken and menacing as it is brilliant. 'Muharib Skank' kicks off in menacing fashion with an eerie late night street vibe, low end oscillations and well placed vocal samples. 'Affektion' is more lush, with nice chill melodies thinking over a tricking drill beat. It's deep as you like. 'Moody Marge' then brings more nocturnal sounds with drifting keys and stuttering drums and bass, and 'MS20 Skank' rounds out with icy hits and swaggering drums that swing low. A well-crafted and emotive bass EP.

Bad Trip (4:41)
Rolling Skies (4:41)
Review: It's been another banger of a year for Ricky Kalsi with a string of releases on his own Nebula imprint plus the likes of Dream Eater, Rotpot and Green King Cuts. Here he makes a very rare appearance on N-Type's Wheel & Deal with two more dark juggernauts. "Bad Trip" cracks open the heavens before the melted bassline oozes out and rains pure prang. "Rolling Skies" continues the theme of heavy weather as Kromey and the bossman go toe-to-toe in an intense game of militant funk. Bad to the bone.

Reflect
Distorted Politics
Review: A long-standing member of N-Type's Wheel & Deal family, you should know exactly what to expect from an LX One release by now... Booming bass drama with the perfect balance of darkness. Naturally the couplet on this 12" is no exception. "Reflect" is all about one massive, ominous drone that seeps through the groove and drapes itself over every element. "Distorted Politics", meanwhile, puts the emphasis onto the intricate drum work. Surging forth with layers upon layers of tightly-knit percussion, if you're looking for total dancefloor lockdown, this is the track that will take you there.

Watchers (5:50)
Cloud City (4:16)
Roll Out (feat Frisco) (3:40)
Oddity (5:41)
Review: This month sees Wheel & Deal regular LX One make good on the promise shown over five years of 12" output with his debut album Motions. To complement it, N-Type's label are splitting up the cuts into two four-track 12" samplers with the first arriving before the album proper! "Watchers" sets the tone here with some abstract bassline design lending a degree of unpredictability around a finely crafted rhythmic base, whilst the taut "Cloud City" is a growling heavy stepper in the fashion we've come to expect from LX One. Frisco lends some vocal menace to "Roll Out" whilst "Oddity" ends this sampler on an atmospheric, delay heavy note. The full LP should be great on the evidence here.

LX One - "Motions" (4:48)
LX One & SP:MC - "Kingsland Dub" (5:30)
Review: The title track from his impeccable debut album released this summer, LX One's "Motions" wades through thick Massive Attack-level mists with its off-kilter drums and introverted vocals from Segolia. Flip for the some serious dub business with another one of the many album highlights "Kingsland Dub". Anchor-weight on the kicks, SP:MC ghosting through the channels and ping pong ball bass, it's yet another reason to check the whole album.

Mr K - "IP13" (3:46)
Mr K - "Dafuq" (4:39)
Review: Following releases on Duploc and White Peach, Mr K returns to Wheel & Deal with four stark belters. "Baka" sets the tone with an obscene bounce before his remix of fellow W&D next-genner AxH proceeds to punch out of the speakers and melt your face off. Flip for some twisted flute-wizardry and Coki-level filth on "IP13" while "Dafuq" lives up to its name with some delicious reverse dreamy textures, off-grid drums and a bassline that sounds like venom. Sting when you're winning.

Dozer (3:48)
Arcane (4:41)
Drift (5:21)
Carbon (4:13)
Review: N-Type's latest collaboration project finds the dubstep don work with Wheel & Deal family member Sleeper. This is the latest of several such collections of tunes coming in the next week months. And that's great news because it is another killer four tracker. 'Dozer' is a real slayer with its fizzing synths and dark, cavernous bottom ends dragging you through a bleak urban landscape, then 'Arcane' follows a similar path but with a monstrous lead. 'Drift' is a bright melodic gem that has a more airy and reflective vibe and 'Carbon' closes with a seriously wobbly bottom end.

Review: On this double-disc set, London dubstep don N-Type presents a round-up of the action so far on his acclaimed Wheel & Deal label. The second disc mix provides a fitting showcase for N-Type's undoubted DJ skills -whilst, of course, including a wider range of label material - it's the first, unmixed disc that will be of most interest to DJs. Here, some of Wheel & Deal's best moments to date are presented on CD for the very first time. There's plenty to enjoy, from the Eastern-tinged rhythms of Ben Verse and low-end tech-step wobble of Coki to the sparse dubs of LX One, garage-influenced grooves of Phaeleh and melodic starburst of DJ Madd.

Nada (Photom remix) (3:50)
In My Style (3:48)
Triggered (3:47)
Review: The hotly tipped and already fairly proven (after a great outing in Jan with his EP on For The Heads) OME from Berlin is a new signing to the Wheel & Deal label and he doesn't disappoint. His sound comes with an undercurrent of dread, serious low-end weight and rich sound designs as well as, of course, good vibes. He updates the OG dubstep sound here with his own sense of infectious swagger on 'Nada' which has plunging bass and trippy, aqueous melodies. The Photom remix brings out a more restless melodic refrain before flipside joints 'In My Style' offer classic low-frequency oscillations and 'Triggered' takes a darker path through a late-night urban area.

Last Chance Saloon (5:20)
Kira (3:44)
Koma & Sepia - "Embalment" (4:47)
Frequency (4:52)
Review: Since delivering his first 12" four years ago, Theo Bennett AKA Sepia has become once of the most celebrated producers on the deep dubstep underground, delivering singles for Gourmet Beats and Infernal Sounds - amongst others - that push the style's accepted boundaries. His first Wheel and Deal outing ticks similar boxes. He begins by encasing crunchy beats and heavy sub-bass in chiming music box melodies on "Last Chance Saloon", before doffing a cap to grime on the intoxicating, near tropical heaviness of "Kira". Turn to side B for inspired Koma collaboration "Embalment" - a stuttering, shuffling treat rich in atmospheric chords and ear-pleasing melodies - and the more dub-wise pressure of closer "Frequency".
