Artificial Sunsets (5:56)
The Pursuit Of Happiness (5:29)
Review: From his roots in the none stranger Brighton techno scene through to his recent re-emergence on Workshop and the like, Ibrahim Alfa has managed to stay resolutely unique despite dipping in and out of the music game over the years. Wicked Bass have turned back to his considerable catalogue of gems to give "Artificial Sunsets" a fresh outing, and highly deserved it is too. With its tightly wound, snaking beat, chirpy but off-kilter chords and loungey background licks, it's a track with a surreal atmosphere all of its own that begs to be played at the after party. "The Pursuit Of Happiness" meanwhile is a bold and brassy stomper with massive bass and enough noise to make the Landstrumm fans screw their faces up.

Sinergia (6:19)
Renaissance (7:35)
Renaissance (Innershades remix) (4:43)
Stasis (6:24)
Review: Marco Pellegrino is Ancut, and here he make his debut on Wicked Bass with more fresh cuts that show off his ever evolving style. His opening statement is a strong one that finds him making his machines really dance - the drums are bumpy, the pads soulful, but there is a lithe looseness to the whole thing that stands it out. After "Sinergia", "Renaissance" is a more wonky late night tech house workout with twisted pads and spinning hi hats underpinned by double kicks. Innershades remixes with a slick Chicago energy and analogue hits, then "Stasis" trips you out with bubbly acid lines, smeared pads and the sort of dreamy emotions that capture your imagination at 4am.

Voice In My Head (5:21)
Grooveboxing (5:22)
Peroxide (6:31)
Kwaks (5:20)
Review: The Wicked Bass label kicks off 2022 with some big and playful sounds from Borys here. 'Voice In My Head' has a wonky, drunken groove that is easy to love and easier to dance to. Crispy hits and ass-wiggling bass keep you locked for the duration while 'Grooveboxing' gets more sleazy, with wifey synths and twitchy stabs all layers dup over a harder edge beat. 'Peroxide' then brings back that playful sense of bass which made the open so essential, this time with tripped out synth motifs and last of all 'Kwaks' slips into a deep and seductive techno mould.

Mono Port
Frosted Lakes
Chip Implemented
Review: Known mostly for his work as MGUN on Berceuse Heroique, TTT, Don't Be Afraid, Third Ear and more, the supremely gifted Manuel Gonzales adds Wicked Bass to his collar here, gracing the Ukranian label with a triplet of bugged out techno from the D. MGUN fans are quite literally spoilt for choice here; those that like it raw and sludgy will gravitate towards the lead track "Mono Port" which wedges a sense of funk deep beneath all manner of sonic muck. "Frosted Lake" finds Gonzales using the minimum of elements with optimum results - the manner in which the bassline veers all around the channels is superb - whilst B Side hogger "Chip Implemented" is the producer going full throttle down a wormhole you'll be only too willing to follow.

Kinetic Drawing (8:08)
Kinetic Drawing (Porn Sword Tobacco Yoga BBQ Night Beach edit) (8:53)
Review: Always known as a wild maverick on the fringes of electronic music, Healing Force Project follows up on stellar appearances for Firecracker and Bedouin to deliver this incisive creation to Wicked Bass. With drums at strange angles and a certain touch of discordant dread around the synth tones lingering in the background, one would think "Kinetic Drawing" is a chaotic, clamouring mess, but instead it comes on like a poised, perfect slice of transcendental mystery. For those wanting a little structure to work such a mood into the mix, who better than Porn Sword Tobacco to shake a little salt into the track with his "Yoga BBQ Night Beach Edit"?

Muru (Bookworms remix)
Always In 'N' Out
Where Am I?
Review: Latest Wicked Bass instalment comes from lost 1990's tapes of an underground Estonian production group, Hupnosaurus. Side A opens with 'Muru', a simple ballad with its stripped kicks and funky string bass that gradually reach a lo-fi acidic house condition with psychedelic swirls appearing every now and then. Bookworms provides a remix treatment with thick, multi-layered overdriven & looped madness that strips the original to a simple bassline and occasional industrial stabs. On side B, 'Always In N' Out' starts out as unorthodox blend of a classic techno kick and speed garage percussion, but after a long building spacey pad breaks into a classic filtered house tune with transposed chords and cut-up vocals that runs until the end of the track. The last title track demonstrates heavy stomping kicks, swinging hats, familiar psychedelic whirls and a trippy, crushed vocal sample appearing out of nowhere questioning 'Where Am I?'.

Shape Memory
Living In The Future
Dayna (with Mote)
Review: Ikeaboy is the intermittent project from Damian Tubbritt, who first debuted the moniker more than ten years ago. It's been a long while since any fresh material from this deep cover curio of oddball techno hit wax, but now Wicked Bass have done the honourable thing and gathered up this excellent trio of tracks. "Shape Memory" plies a funky line in squelchy bass and jangling delay trills, while "Living In The Future" opts for a more mysterious, pad soaked trip into spooked out electro. On the B-side "Dayna" sports some forthright drum machine beats and epic sweeps of synths that only serve to confound any expectations you might have about the sound of Ikeaboy.

A Night To Forget
Neverending Summer
Neverending Summer (Dexter remix)
Review: Fresh off his excellent Creme Organisation release, rising Belgian producer Innershades returns to Ukrainian label Wicked Bass for a second 12" of the year. Given the fact That Girl, his debut EPfor Wicked Bass was so popular it's no surprise to see Innershades back and he's laid down some serious productions. Lead track "Granuere" picks up where Truss left off when he retired the MPIA3 guise, banging through acid heavy techno in suitably grotty fashion, which contrasts nicely with the more electro-indebted ruffstep of "A Night To Forget". Here Innershade's quickly established rep for mnulti-layered synths shines, as it does on the chunky, whistle laden "Never-ending Summer" This latter track is giving a bustling house makeover from that man Dexter which sounds equally contemporary and redolent of a 90s R&S B Side.

That Girl (Locked Groove She's A Hoe remix)
That Girl (Vakula remix)
Review: Kiev's premier outpost for edgy electronic music Wicked Bass offers up a new talent for your delectation in the form of Innershades. "That Girl" is an underground hit waiting to happen, bringing on the seedier end of classic Chicago house through a haunting lead synth line while the simple vocal hook does everything a jack track requires. Locked Groove's "She's A Hoe Remix" lays on some additional melodics and acidic squelches whilst equally honing the old-skool stylings into a sleeker, more modern sound. Vakula is not so gentle, bringing on all kinds of abrasive nastiness to work into a remix that somehow still stays very faithful to the original.

Body Shirk
Review: Kiev based label Wicked Bass has proven to be one of the most intriguing operations in the Ukraine, operating an impeccable selection policy when it comes to its signings. Following on from the excellent Healing Force Project 12", the latest missive on the label comes from Galdoors co-founder Junes, who presents some of his strange and slippery techno variations for adventurous spinners who crave subtleties in their jams. "Of No Memory" has a wonderfully hypnotic quality to it, while "Pacing" heads down the minimal route to deadly effect. "Body Shirk" finishes the EP off with a head-turning set of drums and some tripped out synths.

Almost Death (Darren Allen Crimes Of The Future remix) (7:16)
Review: Wicked Bass welcome Lucretio & Omar Akhrif for its 20th release and a fittingly goto one it is too. 'Heartgirls' has a filthy groove with snappy hits and marching drum funk all run through with some wonky synth action. 'We Like Rain' is another full flavour and fleshy cut with rasping bass madness and militant drums. 'Almost Death' is another one with a stiff rhythm and slamming drums, this time with unsettling vocal stabs and wild acid lines. Darren Allen's Crimes Of The Future remix of the same tune is a melon twisting slice of dubbed out afterparty techno.

All Night Long (feat Reggie Hall)

All Night Long (Bok Bok remix)
All Night Long (Bok Bok Endurance dub)
Review: Yes! Parris Mitchell's gaudy ghetto house anthem "All Night Long" gets reissued along with a pair of remixes from Night Slugs chief Bok Bok. The track was first released in 1995, and underwent something of renaissance after being sampled liberally by seldom spotted Estonian producer Bakey USTL on his 2010 Unthank release A Tender Place. The original 12? has been like gold dust on Discogs, so news of a reissue is a welcome one, and follows a slew of Mitchell's Dance Mania cuts recently reissued by Crosstalk International. Although large swathes of the Dance Mania canon contained similarly misogynistic lyrics, Mitchell's cheeky effort still sounds remarkably fresh, and it will be presented by Ukrainian imprint Wicked Bass alongside two remixes from Bok Bok and one all new track, "Bounce". Bok Bok has been a long term admirer of the track - it's been a staple of his DJ sets for some time - and the Night Slugs sonic aesthetic clearly owes a debt to the early 90s sound forged by the likes of Mitchell. Pleasingly for a veteran house producer making a comeback, the new track on offer ("Bounce", featuring Shinoby) actually adds something to the release, with off kilter rhythms and acidic squelches.

Review: Robin Ordell has been releasing for a decade and makes his first release in 2021 on Wicked Bass. It finds him in real party mode from the off, with the pumping tech funk of 'Through The Motions' layering old school video game synths with a punchy bassline that never lets up. There is a more wonky and original sound to 'Inside Out Song' that is always going to get the attention of the floor and then things go slow and heavy on the zoned out deep techno trudger that is 'Systemic.' 'May May May' is astral techno to go exploring to.

Windy Bass (6:05)
Fordism 0205 (4:41)
Exalted Flow (5:50)
Krisis Ekktro (4:33)
Review: St. Petersburg resident Kuzma Palkin is a busy guy, having recorded music in the past as Audiocad, Cylindro, Plattformer and many more. Under his own name he's contributed to Russia's respected Gost Zvuk label, and now he signs up to the excellent Ukranian outpost Wicked Bass to drop some hypnotic and delightfully dusky club tracks to inject a little spice into a minimal scenario. The release kicks off with "Windy Bass," which shares a little rugged spirit with STL's sonic style and love of loose swing, before diving down into the misty waters of "Fordism 0205." "Exalted Flow" has a more detailed arrangement that pushes extra detail, sequence wobbles and FX tweaks onto the drums to make for a dynamic rhythm workout. "Krisis Ekktro" completes the set with a blown out electro throwdown that will be gold dust to any self-respecting machine funk deviant.

Special Luv
Review: Taking the slow-release approach in the face of so many new artists flinging their wares out at a breakneck pace, Photomachine notches up just their third single in as many years with this delirious bunch for Wicked Bass. "Black Motorcycle" bumps atop some rude square wave bass action, with rave stabs aplenty and a leftfield line in drum sounds that set the tone for the rest of the EP. "Good News Bad Dope" gets into a more techno frame of mind but it's still peppered with unhinged samples and wonky melodies, while "Zapp" channels the titular boogie hero into a looping groove reminiscent of the Soundstream school of sampling. "Special Love" too looks back to the 80s for its ingredients, although this time it's in a positively smacky slow jam that steadily degrades into a bit crushed noise fest.

Falling Into Nowhere (7:30)

Essence (8:00)
Review: For his comeback release on Ukraine's Wicked Bass label, the gloomy producer hiding behind the alias Raw M.T. presents another set of trippy, yet noticeably simplified masterpieces of 90's E-werk informed analog techno. 'Falling Into Nowhere' with its melancholic xylo drops and Twin Peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on 'Abductions' and 'Essense', in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. Three fine cuts that will work both at peak and afterparty time.

Sara (Greg Beato remix)
Review: Kiev's premiere house label Wicked Bass return in superb fashion, lending a debut to the unheralded Italian producer Raw MT who's Raw Music Theory EP demonstrates the Venetian should be added to the long list of accomplished house and techno producers that surface from the district. Lead track "Walkman Is Dead" sets the tone, with a deeply saturated bed of Carpenter style synth loops intermittently rampaged by terrorising kick drums and Raw MT's penchant for texture and melody is displayed further on the deeper B Side track "Sara". LIES fanatics will no doubt gravitate towards this release due to the pair of accompanying remixes from Miami wunderkind Greg Beato and he does a splendid job of reconfiguring Raw MT's work in his own weird and rhythmically maniacal manner - the Trippinn Remix of "Walkman Is Dead" is superb!
