Critical Amnesia
Critical Amnesia (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: XPQ? 004. Rel: 11 Aug 20
  1. Ns0S (6:33)
  2. Ns0S (skit) (3:26)
  3. 0Sns.b1 (3:57)
  4. 0Dsn1 (5:04)
  5. 0Dsn2 (1:50)
  6. 0Sns.b2 (4:02)
Review: D. Tiffany's xpq? is rightly regarded as fertile breeding ground for electronic experimentations and Critical Amnesia's self-titled ode to weird and wonderful noises is certainly no exception. At times frantic, in other moments deeply atmospheric, it's hard to say whether it's primarily made with dancefloors or headphones in mind, the chaotic rhythms that lock you in only fully evident at heightened volume, but the bigger picture really becoming clear in less intense listening situations. '0Dsn2' represents the smoked out end of the spectrum, with its laidback broken beats and fizzing distortion. '0Sns.b1' offers full body contortion-worthy EBM pleasures, and '0Dsn1' brings more than a hint of amen rave to the table. Intelligent and wildly adventurous, nevertheless it's also built in such a way that delivers the simple satisfaction of 'proper' dance music.

Ghostride The Drift
Ghostride The Drift (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: XPQ 0001. Rel: 10 Apr 19
  1. Track 1 (9:36)
  2. Track 2 (5:39)
  3. Track 3 (6:08)
  4. Track 4 (2:05)
  5. Track 5 (9:18)
Review: Best described as 'outer rim junkyard elektro', Ghostride The Drift is an American/Canadian alliance: a collaboration between house music outsiders Shy (also known as Uon, Caveman, LSD among others), Naemi (Exael) and of course Brian Leeds aka Huerco S./Pendant. Recorded in Berlin 2018, expect leftfield techno experiments, lo-fi ambient drifters, slo-mo dubs and challenging soundscapes dwelling on the outer limits. A fantastic inaugural release brought to you by D. Tiffany & Uon's XPQ? - a subsidiary of Plush Managements Inc. & Experiences LTD. out of Montreal.

Review: Xpq? founders D Tiffany and Special Guest DJ are keeping quiet about the identity of the "married outlaws" behind the previously unheard Low Budget Aliens project. This debut album arrives with little or no fanfare or fuss, or even the usual functional info sheet supplied to record stores and media outlets. So what's in store? In summary: peculiar, off-kilter excellence. Jumpy, skittish and imaginative, the majority of the eight tracks twist warped, mind-altering electronics and strange sounds around weighty basslines and unearthly rhythms that variously doff a cap to juke, jungle, grime, IDM and what would once have been called "brain-dance". It's an exciting and sometimes unsettling template, but one that consistently delivers on its eccentric, experimental promise.
