Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere II
  1. Jin Choi - "High Quality Schal" (Baby Ford remix)
  2. Sten - "Circles"
  3. Mark Broom - "Gira"
  4. Edward - "Sender"
Review: The second instalment in Yossi Amoyal's Fluere compilation run brings further leftfield house and techno delights into one place, in honour of Sushitech's 15th anniversary. First up on this 12" is Baby Ford's impeccable remix of Jin Choi, which adds extra layers of drama to Ford's trademark minimal clicks and pops. Sten's 'Circles' is a pristine, dubby tech house workout, while Mark Broom's 'Gira' sounds all the better for a modern remaster 25 years after its original release. Edward's 'Sender' finishes the record off on a nervy, unsettled note where lingering off-key tones hover over a dense and twitchy minimal beat.

ATIPIC 011
ATIPIC 011 (12")
Cat: ATIPIC 011. Rel: 21 Oct 20
  1. 011.1 (11:07)
  2. 011.2 (8:41)
Review: Following up some great efforts by the likes of Dumitrescu and Lizz, for its eleventh edition Priku's Atipic imprint goes beyond the 'Rominimal' sphere. Instead it looks to Argentina for this release, courtesy of scene veteran Franco Cinelli in conjunction with newcomers Esteban Gutierrez and Lux Z. Hypnotic late night mood music awaits on A side cut '011.1' a deep groove with Robert Hood style synth bleeps against a backdrop of lean minimalist drum beats. On the flip, the heady stomp of '011.2' lets the clipped yet very intricate rhythm programming do all the talking - polyrhythmic afterhours bliss if we have ever heard it.

  2. Fly (6:15)
  3. 13 Beat(Less) (7:44)
  4. Shielding Rework (7:10)
Review: Earthen Sea adds to the Kimochi Sound with a soulful examination of indistinct margins, suffused with dusky haze. It's a heady atmosphere and has a palpable heaviness throughout. Starting the record are the concrete reverberations of You Don't Never Know, followed by the murky ebb and flow of Fly. 13 Beat(less) is diffused ambience.
Shielding fittingly closes the record, and weaves Earthen Sea's many textures with intricate syncopation.

ENDZ 040
ENDZ 040 (coloured vinyl 12")
Cat: ENDZ 040. Rel: 27 Oct 20
  1. Whisper (7:09)
  2. Freak (7:08)
  3. Faze (7:08)
Review: He might not be able to play his trademark brand of swinging, UK-centric tech-house tunes to the public in clubs right now, but East End Dubz continues to serve up singles packed full of dancefloor-ready treats. His latest missive is predictably strong, particularly A-side 'Whisper'. An impressively atmospheric affair, the cut features lo-fi sounding electronic melodies rising above a chunky, hypnotizing bassline and his usual crispy, snare-heavy tech-house drums. The fun continues on the flip where 'Freak', a squelchy, acid-flecked mid-set bumper built around a limited number of teased and tweaked elements, is joined by 'Faze', which sounds like the sort of thing Sheffield sorts Swag released in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Mind Traps EP
Cat: INFUSE 022. Rel: 09 Nov 17
  1. Gradual Steps (7:31)
  2. Mind Traps (7:44)
  3. Enhance (7:15)
Review: Having built his reputation via a regular series of self-released 12" singles, East End Dubs is now beginning to make guest appearances on selected labels. Here he pops up on the long established, vinyl-only INFUSE imprint with a trio of club-ready concoctions. On the A-side you'll find "Gradual Steps", a rolling and attractive fusion of bouncy deep house drums, spacey, Motor City chord, thickset bass and glitchy tech-house flourishes. As usual, there's a wonderful swing to his drums and the stretched-out chords are hazy and evocative. You'll find more of these sumptuous pads and chord progressions on similarly-minded flipside cut "Mind Traps", while closer "Enhance" is another deep house/tech-house hybrid blessed with a notably epic breakdown.

  1. Blue Skies (6:29)
  2. Share Me Baby (feat Mike Anderson) (6:40)
  3. Overflow (6:35)
Review: From early drops on Tresor to a productive run on D, Detroit Dancer, Chapter 2 and other labels, Santonio Echols has already lived a long and illustrious career in house music. The latest notch on his catalogue comes via Sudd Wax, and finds the US producer in killer shape. "Blue Skies" is a lean, direct cut with the right balance between heavy rhythm section and smooth chords. "Share Me Baby" features some vocal turns from Mike Anderson getting all romantic over another tough beat and mellow keys, while "Overflow" takes things deeper with some progressive melodic refrains that gently shift throughout the course of the track.

  2. Ambrosia (6:33)
  3. Wilting Leaf (3:56)
  4. Roses (5:23)
Review: Edanticonf has been a mainstay of Silent Season for many years now, first delivering an album and EP to the Canadian label back in 2012. Since then he's travelled to labels such as M_REC, Wolfskuil, Phorma and Linear Movement, but he's back home to roost with this gorgeous four-tracker that plays on his trademark sound. Rich with melancholic synth work and moving with a purposeful but thoughtful pace, this is exactly the kind of evocative techno that makes Silent Season a buy on sight label. Every track tells its own story, but the starry twinkle of "The Metamorphosis Of Plants" is especially captivating.

  2. Helling (6:38)
  3. Funkaholic (Dan Ghenacia remix) (7:02)
  4. Helling (Julian Anthony remix) (5:52)
Review: At PIV Records, the imprint's founders are using their Dutch/Indonesian heritage as a cultural aspect to create a unique blended output, which is significantly visible in the artworks and merchandise of the label. The latest release as part of their limited vinyl series comes from rising Utrecht-based young gun Joren Edwards, who is hot off his debut release not long ago on Archie Hamilton's Moss Co. PIV 005 features some swing-fuelled hypnotic tech house jams such as 'Funkaholic' reminiscent of (iO) Mulen or Jack Wickham. It also receives a deep, dark and dirty rework on the flip by legend of the Parisian underground Dan Ghenacia. Alternatively, if you are looking for some quirked out microhouse, check out 'Helling' which is perfect for getting weird at the afterhours.

EEE
Cat: EEE 008. Rel: 25 Aug 20
  1. Track 1 (9:12)
Review: It's that time again! East End Edits are back with another cheeky, pop-inflected minimal techno workout. As always, the remixer's identity is under tight wraps but as soon as that vocal drops you'll sure know who they borrowed the hook from. Booming, tough rolling UK tech house aimed squarely at the main room at peak time, the dense bass pulsations of the original compliment this version perfectly, alongside the gorgeous come hither vocal. Hand-stamped, one sided heavyweight 12" vinyl in limited copies.

EEE 009 (hand-stamped 1-sided heavyweight vinyl 12")
EEE
Cat: EEE 009. Rel: 13 Oct 20
  1. Track 1 (7:18)
Review: The EEE series may utilise a very simple blueprint - each single-sided, one-track release combines tasty, 21st century tech-house grooves with vocal lifts and instrumental samples from a classic cut - but so far, the publicity-shy producer behind it has yet to put a foot wrong. This ninth instalment in the ongoing series is every bit as alluring as its predecessors, in part because the headline-grabbing Nina Simone vocal samples are used sparingly and dropped into the mix for maximum impact. They mainly appear within the melodious, smile-inducing breakdown, before making way for a return to the track's chunky, seemingly squeezable tech-house groove and sweet, glassy-eyed lead lines. On paper it shouldn't work, but it really does, making this another must-check EEE release.

EEE
Cat: EEE 007. Rel: 12 Jun 19
  1. Track 1 (9:11)
Review: Madonna, Depeche Mode and Kelis - what do East End Edits have in store for us next? This seventh instalment harks back to the charming deep jazzy house of their inaugural release - think of the legendary St. Germain and that should give you a fairly good idea. The track's smoky, late night jazz bar vibe is complemented by a rolling bass and swinging rhythms that should appeal to the likes of Rhadoo or Petre Inspirescu - legends of the Romanian scene who themselves have lent their deft hand to the French producer's work as remixers in the past, too.

EEE
Cat: EEE 003. Rel: 27 Jun 18
  1. Track 1 (10:07)
Review: The shadowy EEE series has already brought us tasty and much-played tech-house interpretations of a familiar jazz-house gem and a string-laden '80s synth-pop shuffler. Their third single-sided affair - as championed by Zip and Riccardo, no less - takes on a much-loved early noughties R&B classic, placing carefully selected and sequenced vocal snippets around a seriously snappy and sub-bass-heavy groove. Although tech-house in style - note the glitchy electronic noises and spacey effects fixed to the beats - the track's infectious rhythm track was clearly influenced by the current electro revival. This added swing and shoulder-swinging looseness, coupled with the familiarity of the vocal elements, makes EEE03 a guaranteed peak-time winner.

EEE 006 (hand-stamped 1-sided heavwyeight vinyl 12")
EEE
Cat: EEE 006. Rel: 01 May 19
  1. Track 1 (6:38)
Review: More from single-sided specialists EEE, a shadowy crew that specializes in sneaky contemporary club reworks of well-known tracks (many of which are, in their original form, about as dancefloor focused as your average miserable indie band or veteran cabaret crooner). What's on offer this time round is a heavily electronic tech-house groove - all Romanian style beats and bubbling, mind-altering synth notes - onto which is laid cut-up snippets from a famous old blues cut that's previously been sampled on a club cut to great effect. While the vocal does sit slightly awkwardly at times, there's no denying the heaviness or effectiveness of EEE's track. In other words, it's another winner from tech-house's most shadowy crew.

EEE
Cat: EEE 002. Rel: 08 Feb 18
  1. Track 1 (12:23)
Review: The first volume in the mysterious EEE series simply flew off the shelves. It featured a tidy, on-point rework of one of the most celebrated jazz-house records of all time. This time round, the mystery remixer - who seems to prefer subtly beefing up tracks with new beats and one or two new musical elements - sets his or her sights on a classic chunk of moody British synth-pop from Basildon's finest. The new rhythm track sits somewhere between metallic electro and hypnotic tech-house (think clipped, fizzing electronics, and squeezable kick-drum sounds), while much is made of the original synthesizer strings and recognizable vocal. It's a tidy and undeniably floor-friendly version, all told, and will no doubt be very popular with DJs.

Review: The latest drop on the consistently brilliant Kimochi comes from Eho Kates, a new project from Todd Gys and Brendon Moeller. While the names involved may be familiar, the resulting sound is something wholly fresh. Certainly, Moeller's rightly heralded instinct for dubwise processes is no great shock, but there's a playful sense of experimentation powering every element of this release from the scuffed, fractured rhythms of 'Anxiety Sensitivity' to the submerged echo chamber surrealism of 'Emotional Distress Endurance'. Inquisitive processes and otherworldly sound design shape out the whole record, shot through with the alluring mystery that defines Kimochi output overall.

He delivers a blistering 3 track acid tinged ep which kicks off with "Block Parties (Dark Entry)", a driving acid bassline with a great vocal layered on top. Review: LA-based producer Mor Elian has already scored big releases with her two previous transmissions, landing on Prime Numbers and Hypercolour, as her reputation rises in the field of dynamic deep house music. On this turn for Finale Sessions she lays down some of her strongest work to date, amping up the dubby tendencies on "Orionids" before heading into a propulsive techno dimension on the wonderfully airy "Light Pollution". EP closer "Echo Park" meanwhile fuses a disparate spread of electronic sounds into a mechanical yet strangely inviting construction for adventurous heads to get lost in.

Fir this one, Ron Elliot joins the family with some seriously weight cuts. Fresh off the back of winning the AVA's Emerging Producer award, he is in top form here with 'Haarlem' a bristling cut built on old school drum breaks and glistening melodies. There is also crunchier techno and then blissed out post-rave bangers like 'Sweaty Fiver' on the a-side, and plenty more body rocking beats on the flip.

Review: Moda Di boss and Freerotation resident Tom Ellis joins the growing roster of established artists releasing atmospheric club tracks on Berlin's Dokutoku Records. The Wales-based producer is in fine form throughout. He begins with the bluesy shuffle of "I Should Care", where sampled jazz piano and vocal snippets weave in and out of a minimalist techno groove, before channelling his inner Ricardo Villalobos on the wonky and creepy "El Humo". "Number X" is a more traditional techno workout rich in distorted drums, spaced-out vocal snippets and bubbly Motor City stabs, while closing cut "Still Only One" is a pleasingly bleep-heavy fusion of electro attitude, ambient vibes and stripped-back techno hypnotism.

Review: Making it big over a decade ago amidst the mid-noughties minimal boom, Bonn based Dominik Eulberg was responsible for big tunes on labels like Trapez, Cocoon and Traum Schallplatten - being a stalwart of the latter with a couple of dozen releases for them over the years. Eulberg has made no secret of his other love of birdwatching, and he's now decided to launch his own imprint Apus Apus - which is named after his favourite 'swift bird'. The music is thoughtfully presented: quality over quantity, with two tracks per EP. This is the same philosophy for releasing the music itself - only appearing once it is created. For the label's third EP he presents to us "Abendpfauenauge" on the A side, which is a brooding, tunnelling and tripped out affair and perfect for long mixes. On the flip, there's a mesmerising and lush IDM journey entitled "Oleanderschwarmer" that's reminiscent of Boards Of Canada.

  1. Exhausted Modern - "Cima Da Lagh" (6:32)
  2. Exhausted Modern - "Loss Of Self-Identity" (7:07)
  3. CCO - "With Me" (6:00)
  4. CCO - "Serendipity" (5:56)
Review: To date the Electronic Leatherette releases have featured a whole spread of noirish synth brandishing producers on two split 12"s, including Heinrich Dressel and Plant43. This third trip out into the grubby climes of the wave-inspired scene comes courtesy of Exhausted Modern and CCO, both of whom know a thing or two about channeling sinister monosynths and brittle drum machine rhythms that bridge the gap between the DIY 80s and these hardware abundant times. Exhausted Modern's "Loss Of Self-Identity" is especially strong, while CCO's "Serendipity " struts with a satisfyingly deep and nagging acid twist.
