  3. Traumatize (7:31)
  4. Sacro E Profano (7:39)
Review: After outings on split EPs for What NxT and Heisenberg, Jamahr takes control of the second release from the Captea label with a classy four tracker that spans the depths of house music. 'Urza' is urgent and tightly coiled as it surges through balmy solar winds. 'Planetary' is even more cinematic with its shimmering chords and loopy bass and 'Traumatize' then gets into a more toned out, 3am sort of vibe with its spacious feel, deeply buried acid undulations and broken beat pattern. 'Sacro E Profano' closes out with the most straight-head grooves of the lot, but one that still remains deep.

  1. Dense Forest (8:37)
  2. Sentiment (8:44)
  3. Wizard (8:15)
  4. Wanderer (8:08)
Review: So far this year, Moscow-based Makebo has contributed tracks to two compilation-style EPs on All Day I Dream and Shanti Radio. Here the publicity shy artist returns to the latter label with a debut single that's well worth a few moments of your time. He first navigates the "Dense Forest", a dense thicket of foliage that wraps nature-fresh melodies, chink-of-light strings and photosynthesis pads around a rubbery tech-house groove, before inviting us to gaze upon the magic and mystery of hybrid deep house/tech-house workout "Wizard". He continues this combination of hazy warmth, melodious musical flourishes and rolling beats on B-side opener "Wanderer", while closing cut "Sentiment" is a richly orchestrated treat for those who like their club cuts to come complete with a sizable dose of emotion-rich musicality.

Give Up The Ghost (Thriller Houseghost remix)
Cat: TICK 006. Rel: 25 Aug 11
  1. Give Up The Ghost (Thriller Houseghost remix)
  2. Codex (Illum Sphere remix)
  3. Little By Little (Shed remix)
Review: The fourth King of Limbs remix 12" sees headline duties going to Actress and Lukid under the Thriller moniker. Their remix of "Give Up The Ghost" takes the pastoral tone of the largely acoustic original and puts the ghost firmly in the machine, as Yorke's vocals are stretched out over a spiraling background of compression and synthetic interference, held together with only a tight kick. Shed's remix of "Little by Little" begins with whirring clockwork percussion over a looping guitar line, and a deep sub-bass, stretching its gloomy tension out over three minutes before finally breaking into a trippy 2-step death rattle. It's the Illum Sphere remix of Codex that really impresses however - avoiding the dancefloor route, the young producer takes the most gut-wrenching vocal moment from the track and turns it into a warm analogue hymn that takes the original and elevates it to new heights.

Blowback EP
Blowback EP (translucent yellow vinyl 12")
Cat: LCS 005. Rel: 18 Dec 20
  1. Blowback (8:12)
  2. By Night (6:05)
  3. Changes (6:39)
  4. Copacetic (5:39)
Review: Ray Mono has gone from resident DJ at Leeds' much loved Mono_Cult parties to one of minimal and tech house's most consistent performers. His drums are always super tight and the way he embellishes them is a masterclass in subtlety. The four he offers up here continue in that tradition, with 'Blackjack' pairing nice fluid drums and bass with the deftest of sci-fi sound designs to heighten the trip. 'By Night' is a little more raw and ragged but still locks you into a linear groove that you will not want to leave. 'Changes' is a dubbed out and fleshy tune that keeps on pulling you in and 'Copacetic' gets more freaky for those playful after hours.

FUNKYFUNGI 003
FUNKYFUNGI 003 (12" in die-cut sleeve)
Cat: FUNKYFUNGI 003. Rel: 06 Aug 18
  1. Xerula (7:21)
  2. Xerula (Funk E remix) (8:13)
  3. Xerula (Lowris & Ashac Shakenlo remix) (9:42)
Review: Two years ago, George Stuby established the brilliantly named Funky Fungi label. Surprisingly, this 12"marks his first release since sharing top billing with his collaborative Gravy Underground project on Funky Fungi 001. "Xerula" is an intriguing affair, with Stuby contrasting crunchy machine drums and sampled slap bass with ghostly, ethereal chords and the kind of atmospheric electronic glitches that have become so common in contemporary tech-house releases. The glitchy, funk-fuelled pulse of wonky, off-kilter Eastern European tech-house can be heard on Lowris and Ashac Shakenlo's ten-minute flipside remix, while Funk-E's interpretation is an altogether smoother, groovier and more hypnotic proposition.

Temple
Temple (12")
Cat: SBTL 019. Rel: 06 Jul 20
  1. Temple (7:22)
  2. Spheria (7:11)
  3. Fortuna (9:22)
Review: After a run of rock-solid releases on his own GETTRAUM imprint, Romain Raynaud AKA Traumer has decided to mix things up via a first outing on German imprint Subtil. The headline attraction is undoubtedly A-side "Temple", an attractive, ear-catching chunk of retro-futurist tech-house powered forwards by deep, undulating sub-bass, sparkling choral synth-sounds and fizzing, deep space melodies. Over on side B, "Spheria" is an altogether chunkier, deeper and darker tech-house box jam, while closing cut "Fortuna" cloaks a typically rolling, glitch-sporting beat in heavenly chords and the kind of rush-inducing operatic vocal samples that were such a feature of turn-of-the-90s classics such as Orbitak's "Belfast" and the Beloved's "The Sun Rising".

An Dromeda 07
Cat: ANDROMEDA 007. Rel: 16 May 16
  1. Vid - "The Search" (11:57)
  2. Anthea - "Grumpy Cat" (6:28)
  3. Anthea - "The Fog" (6:28)
Review: When another Andromeda release hits the shelves we're just as excited as you are. Other than the obvious fact that it's Romanian, the label is shrouded in much mystery still, even after seven releases in; but we like that! An dromeda 07 serves up one brilliantly deep and hypnotic (as always) track by label mainstay and Bucharest hero Vid with the sublime "The Search" which in typical fashion flows on and on for nearly 12 minutes of bliss. On the flip they hand the reins to London deep house heroine Anthea who delivers two fine cuts: first up the trippy and cyclical "Grumpy Cat" with its swirling pads doing most of the basic trance induction while "The Fog" gets a bit more swing and shuffle on with its tough and dusty drums backing some dark atmospherics which you can imagine hearing during an overcast afternoon on a messy Sunday at Club der Visionaere.
