  4. Trooper (Sebra Cruz remix) (8:14)
Review: Brit Joseph Ashworth's sudden rise to the top has been noticed on top labels such as Dirtybird, Pets Recordings and Tessellate (with his Firmin) and now makes his bow on Italian powerhouse Life & Death. The Londoner delivers a glassy-eyed and life-affirming journey on opener "Trooper", that sits somewhere between modern deep house and shoegaze with its spangling drones followed by the tunneling tech-house cut "Laminated" which is also full of reliable dancefloor dynamics that's totally in line with the distinct aesthetic that DJ Tennis' imprint has successfully carved out over the last several years. Windy City Club legend Ron Trent also makes an appearance with an emotive rendition of "Trooper" which will leave you breathless!

Cong Burn 04 (140 gram vinyl 12" 再出版)
Cat: CB 04. Rel: 11 Feb 19
  1. Flaty - "Clearences" (5:23)
  2. Lack - "Multiplier" (6:42)
  3. Chekov - "First Thought" (5:46)
  4. Martinou - "Guide Pattern" (6:59)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: The quality of the Cong Burn releases shows no signs of slowing as they reach their fourth volume, rounding off a sterling year for the label. Russian producer Flaty makes an appearance here with the metallic, motorik electro of "Clearences" before Lack slows things down with the clanky funk of "Multiplier". Chekov has a more full bodied techno sound to impart, using spacious sound design to create a rich and immersive modernist jam, while Martinou completes the set with a subtle, shuddering and shimmering effort that dips below the radar of dancefloor convention to achieve a more subliminal effect.

  1. Apologies For The Delay (7:46)
  2. Land Of The Living (7:15)
  3. Apologies For The Delay (Traumer remix) (6:47)
Review: Since returning to action in 2017 after a four-year break, Michael James has been scarily prolific. In fact, "Apologies For The Delay" is the British producer's seventh solo release in the last 18 months. It is, of course, more than up to scratch. He begins with the bass-heavy, off-kilter tech-house swing of "Apologies For The Delay", where spacey pads and intergalactic electronics drift around a bumping groove, before offering a slightly funkier and dreamier take on tech-house via "Land of the Living". Over on the flip, Traumer has his evil way with "Apologies For The Delay", offering up a slightly smoother and heavier version that makes great use of sharp analogue bass, fluttering synth riffs and some suitably spacey electronics.

  2. Mau - "Time Modulation" (7:43)
  3. Cally - "Laga" (7:29)
  4. Cally - "Duoar Meh" (7:29)
Review: Rominimal is the order of the day on the third edition of Jacob Husley and Peter Pixzel's new WYS Limited imprint, named after the very successful run of events held in London for the past nine years at fabric. They weren't modest either, tapping the scene's very best to deliver their idiosyncratic style of minimal and tech house. On the A side, we have Atipic chief Priku serving up some reduced and deepy hypnotic afterhours business on the rather abstract "Outcast" while often underrated producer Mau goes in for some trippy tech-funk on our favourite cut "Time Modulation". On the flip, it's over to the scene's most ascendant star caLLy. The London resident at Stump continues a terrific run of releases with "Laga" and "Duoar Meh". These two rolling, bass-driven and functional tracks were on heavy rotation during Sunwaves - supported by Raresh amongst the other usual suspects.

Review: Andrea Porcu's ROHS! label has been a long time fixture in the ambient field, from net label origins to limited CDr and vinyl releases from a host of respected underground operators. This latest release, two years in the making, features two original tracks from PURL. These sublime ambient pieces, "Slow Poem" and "Cellar Door," move in slow, atmospheric ripples of submerged rhythm and glacial melodics, giving plenty of space for inventive remixes from Segue, Wanderwelle and many more. It's a perfect double pack of dreamy drifters for the chill-out room crowd to sink into.

  2. Politics Of Dancing - "That Night" (6:44)
  3. Julenn - "Good Company" (6:44)
  4. Legit Trip - "Djedai" (5:53)
Review: Jack's House makes its first move of 2019 with a third volume of various artist shenanigans pivoting around the crisp minimal house formula that has kept the label on track and in record bags thus far. Rich NxT is feeling tracky and subtly spaced out on the heads down "Dubble," while Politics Of Dancing comes correct with an insistent roller that finds its groove and stays there. Julenn's "Good Company" is a crafty, shuffling workout laden with deep chord pulses, and Legit Trip's "Djedai" takes things in a freakier turn that should resonate perfectly with the after hours crowd.

  5. Myths (7:26)
  6. Cabinet Of Mirrors (8:02)
Review: David Koch, better known as Dewalta has gradually grown his Berlin-based Meander label into one of the most respected names in minimal techno, and production wise he has really hit his stride in recent years. Testament to this is his new double opus Lyra, with the second part being a collection of ambient productions that will launch the new Horizons sublabel. In Greek mythology, Lyra represents the Lyre of Orpheus, given to Apollo, which is said to be the first music instrument ever made. The dusty and understated techno reductions that he similarly explores with studio pal Mike Shannon are evident on the album, with highlights such as "Atralux" and "Myths". Things get fully cavernous and glacial on chilling dub techno journeys such as the title track, and broadening the album's groove diversity are deep, dreamy and ethereal numbers (well suited to the afterhours) such as the evocative closer "Cabinet Of Mirrors". One of 2019's most highly anticipated albums and worth the wait.
