Carpet & Snares has decided to launch a new series of highly limited, hand-stamped 12" singles under the Carpet Lab banner. According to the imprint, the Lab series will be used to 'road test new music' and offer breaks to debutant artists. They've naturally started as they mean to go on by offering a first ever vinyl outing from Portuguese newcomer Blazout. A-side opener 'Flower of Life' is particularly alluring, with the confident newcomer wrapping a smooth and swinging tech-house groove with ultra-dreamy, enveloping chords, jaunty electric piano stabs and cut-up vocal snippets. Helio remixes, brilliantly re-imagining the track as a spaced-out slab of off-kilter electro/broken beat fusion. Elsewhere, 'Cosmic Mind' is bass-heavy, deep-tech roller, while 'Momento' is a bouncy and rubbery tech-house roller.
