Some 40 years after releasing his first material, Cerrone continues to deliver new music. As the title suggests, Afro sees the French disco legend paying tribute to African music, with the assistance of two rather special guests. Drummer Tony Allen makes his mark on the rather brilliant "2nd Chance", delivering the loose, swinging, booty-shaking rhythm that underpins Cerrone's trademark piano work, clipped funk guitars and grandiose orchestration. Makossa pioneer Manu Dibango assists on "Funk Makossa", which appears to be a killer new version of his 1972 classic "New Bell". Todd Edwards delivers a surprisingly reverential Afro-house revision of that track, while Mind Enterprises get all cosmic and dubbed-out on their deliciously spacey rendition of "2nd Chance".
