Originally released on cassette only in 1995 on Lil Grimm Productions, Children of the Corn's The Single is a core part of the early gangsta rap sound. The Memphis crew came up around the likes of Gangsta Pat - whose most famous album is also being reissued by this label this month - and they put out just two albums, but not were influential. Featuring the sort of complex flows that were big at the time, there are cropping, unsettling tunes that boats moody and broody production next to beats that today would very much fall under the trap umbrella. It's a record well worth hearing if you havent already.
